Drooping eye bags remind me of hammocks:
Purple sacks of cloth, hanging from two rough trunks
In the shade of an oak, or perhaps a fir;
A breeze blows—the hammock sways, calm,
Feeling the air rustle around it, within it;
If only I could climb into one of those hammocks
And close my puffy eyes, rest them in the cool
Afternoon shade—but alas, the hammocks are
But daydreams, and these long, drooping eye bags
Are real.

I thought I sailed headlong into it,
that these waves were my demise
as well as my saving grace;
I thought this shallow water an ocean,
and more than that I worried--
I worried at what was to come.

I hear the music
you play next door,
I can feel the rhythmic motion
under my floor.
It sinks into my soul,
and echos to the beat of my heart,
and I want more.
I close my eyes,
and dream again,
until the very end.
Then the rhythm stops,
and my heart wants to drop,
as I wait once more,
for your music to seep under my door,
so my heart can beat in rhythm to it once more.

tw: glass + human flesh + arson

literally, no one asked
you to be human,
to rip the bullet shell we are born in
apart.

i still believe we were made to be telescopes
in all our metal finery, and a glass
window facing the stars.

no one asked you to shatter your lens
and rub it into your sewn-together skin
or to preach this broken methodology
like declaring a patent, an invention,
and burning the observatory.

The stars flash against
the night sky,
the white light blinding
against the night,
but I still stare up,
if only to witness
the wonder of the world above.
"ONE CANNOT BE BRAVE WHO HAS NO FEAR."

In some universe, I am algae
drifting through the sea without a heart
or brain. In some universe,
that is, but not the current one
where I crawl over volcanic rock,
sharp quartz in the heels of my palms.

haiku -

breakfast jam stuck sweet
dribbled over counter-top
ants harvest with glee
you should know i am a time traveler &
there is no season as achingly temporary as now
but i have promised to return

Beautiful things are midnight apparitions,
ghastly chills between ribs that
shutter shut at the sensation
of something precious
needing to be protected.

There's a Fibonacci sequence
at the tip of my fingers,
just barely brushing the neurons
and sending joules of electricity
to warn my brain of what's coming;
the waves of fear are exponential
and I shiver unconsciously
as I glance at the eight-legged arachnid--
such was my demise that day,
when the unassuming spider
frightened little Miss Muffet away.

To forgive the past I must
tug at the rolled-up petals
of a withered dahlia
abandoned frozen by the roadside.

your house

im traveling down a
street that i dont
know there are no hands
for me here nothing to
hold there are no lights
even though the light is
gold these streets are cold
but walking within them i seem
to glow these lonely eyes
peek around and some meet mine
as i walk into town i see smiles
sparse and few and much like mine
some are new not many people
here have a reason to smile
but i do and i can confidently say
its you my reason is you

tw: burns

receptacle --
such a glassy word
for something so
molten.

to receive you is
to cup one's hands in lava
and let them burn, leaving
raw red flesh
behind.

lil fishy blowing bubbles in chilled water;
me on the bank, watching with adoration
but it's mixed with a dash envy.
how i wish to be so carefree,
listening to the burbling of a gentle stream,
unburdened from self-awareness
and this dreadful cognition.

Maybe the music I want most
is silence. Quiet lamplight glow
atop a stack of glossy notebooks,
softening their edges.

I no longer wish to hear
the orchestral onerousness
of suffering.
