Shouldn't someone PM Destcakes? I feel bad you guys are using her character and she doesn't know. Also; should I make a profile for Lacey to bring Allen in, just start writing about her, or forget about it?
Emmett
I hung up the phone with the slight movement of my thumb to the key pad, but it seemed like Abi picked up so much more from that movement.
"It's her, isn't it?"
"Yeah," I stand up, tucking my phone in my pocket. "We need to talk some stuff out, so I'm going to go pick her up."
"Emmett, we're kind of in the middle of something. Can't you just tell her to wait?" Abi-Marie sounds genuinly peeved, like I don't even feel bad about it.
"The food's almost gone. I was hoping you wouldn't mind..." It sounded so stupid, saying it out loud. "We've got this issue to work on."
Abi stands up, taking my hands in such a not-friends way I have to automatically pull back. "Why her? Emmett, I can't stay quiet anymore!" Quiet? Since when? "She's an alcholic! She's not smart, hardly pretty- why?"
The words sting me, but the answer is something I've defended myself aganist attackers in my head before. "She needs somebodyto love her." I take a deep breath, trying to block the seething anger under my layer of caramel skin. "Thanks for the pcnic, Abi-Marie. See you in school."
I'm at my car, having turned away and forced myself to walk, when I hear something faint on the wind- did I imagine it? "but, Emmett, I love you too..."

I pull up to Jane's house, and shut my brain off. Jane jumps into the car, pullng her jean-clad legs up onto the dashboard. She only does that when she's really relaxed, so I force myself to smile.
"I wanted to apologize to you about the other day. That was stupid of me. I'm sure Lacey knows what she's talking about."
I liked the new problem presented to rid my mind of the old one. "Apology accepted. One problem, though," I grip my fingers around the steerngwheel, "I never exactly asked..."
