Huge. People. Loud. My head hurt.Too much noise.

"God," I hissed, closing my eyes.

I rubbed my temples, trying to release the pain. Nothing helped. Opening my eyes, the florescent lights burned through my pupils.

There was the sound of static as I sat in the bathroom. It smelled of lavender and apples. Green apples. Everything was fresh and clean, the toilet never used as I sat on it, waiting for the pain to subside.

"Welcome to Harmony High School! A brand new school in Connecticut just for all of you wonderful students. An Assembly will be held in the lower-level gym to introduce this wonderful place." A high-pitched woman said through the intercom, too happy for my liking.

Not only was that the problem, it made me want to vomit, liquid growing up my throat.

Great.

A door slammed open with a thunk and high-heel clicks came after. Pop. Pop. Someone was popping their gum.

"Uh, I hope this place is better than Jefferson..." a girl, very snobby sounded said.

"It better. Ew, what's that smell?" another said.

That's when I realized I did vomit. There was a pool of a greenish-brown liquid on the floor, smelling of barf.

I shook my head, letting small droplets of water fall everywhere. Good practice. Coaches seemed cool, and my teammates were friendly enough. Most of them went to Jefferson last year, but there were several people from Lincoln, the school across town, not to mention plenty of freshmen.

"Welcome to Harmony High School!" a woman's voice cheerfully stated. "A brand new high school in Conneticut just for all you wonderful students.". I rolled my eyes at her overwhelmingly fake kindness. "An assembly will be held in the lower level gym to introduce this wonderful place."

With a sigh, a stuffed my bag into my new locker and took out my mini-map. One floor down and to the right. Stuffing it back in my pocket, I slammed my locker shut and followed the other kids heading towards the staircase. I recognized a few of them, but there were a lot of new faces. It was strange not to know anyone.

I walked into the auditorium and took a seat by myself. It was still mostly empty, by people were steadily filing in. The auditorium smelled clean and fresh, and the chairs were actually comfortable and unmarked.

"Excuse me, but is this seat taken?" a girl asked, tapping me on the shoulder.

Wearing a baby pink, floral top and a white skirt, I saw as many people passed me down the hall. This was so weird. There were lots of new mates that I hadn't seen. Getting worried to where Vivienne, my best friend, was, I hurried off to the auditorium because I couldn't wait any longer for her before Mrs. Suzanne Morgan got her temper out.

"Welcome to Harmony High School!" she said to the new students who came out beaming. I gave her a stare, and she stares back with a smile but I know what was behind it. It mean't "You better get your manners right this year, missy."

Pfft. Yeah, right. Me? Get my manners right? That was just so far away from me to how much trouble I created last year. I almost got thrown away from school. Vivienne came running up to me, grabbing my hand, her face bright and happy.

"Hey!" she said.

"Mornin', love." I reply, winking. "What took you so long?"

"Dressing. Need to look my best today, no?" she says, and we both laugh.

We stroll into the auditorium, to get back the clean smell and I felt that fresh new beginning of the year. Sure, there were some changes done like repainting the wall again which really needed a makeover. Looking for a seat, I see one next to a guy with brown curly hair. I walk to him, tapping on his shoulder.

"Excuse me, but is this seat taken?" I ask him. I haven't seen him anywhere.

He turns to me who seemed a little disturbed but I didn't care. I just needed a freaking seat so, I could relax. I was waiting and he raises his eyebrows at me. Other's stare at me too. I hear whispers, some saying "She's back? I thought she was gone." and "It's Lena! What's she doing here?" I roll my eyes at them, and they stop.

"I guess not. Go ahead." he said.

Me and Vivienne jumped in to take the two seats, and looked forward to see if the assembly was starting any soon but I guess it wasn't. Ms. Morgan wouldn't let it go out of her control too easily. Vivienne seemed to be telling me something but I'm too lost in my thoughts. I turn to the guy.

"Hi, I'm Lena." I say, extending a hand, smiling.

"Chris." he replies, grabbing it as we shook our hands.

I'm still on the grounds as my mates hit me on the back, as we had touched down one more score winning it. We celebrate in joy and shake up a bottle of Seven Up, as it pours down all of us. I shake my hair, so that it doesn't get sticky. Girls are staring at me and squeaking and whispering. I look at them, and give them a smile. Some girls go, "Oh my god! He smiled at me!". I swear, girls really need to steady themselves.

My boys hand me my clothes and a hat, and I go get a shower. After being all fresh, I see the kids moving to the auditorium so, I make my way there too. Suzanne doesn't see me going in, thankfully, or there would be more lectures. I have my pals around me, and take down a seat.

I see Chris from the other side, and I wave at him. Just that minute, a girl comes and taps his shoulder. Lena?! God. If anyone gets to know we're cousins, then I'm done for. I don't like her, nor does she like me. I turn to my friends and continue to talk about other plans with our next match. There are lots of girls coming and sitting behind and next to me and, I smile to myself. They sure were funny.

I'd heard rumors about this girl that made me a bit skeptical at first, but I let her and her friend sit. Don't judge a book by it's cover, right?

"Hi, I'm Lena," she said, extending her hand.

I shake it. "Chris," I said, a smirk on my face.

"I'm Vivienne!" her friend giggled and stuck out her hand

"Chris," I said again, my grin spreading.

Vivienne blushed and giggled more. Lena rolled her eyes a bit at her friend.

"So what grade are you guys in?" I asked, trying to spark a conversation.

"We're both juniors," Lena said.

"Me too. I used to go to Jefferson." I shrugged. "This place seems okay though. I just don't want to sit through this dumb assembly."

"Me either," Lena sighed, making a face.

I sat up in my chair, a grin on my face. "So why don't we ditch it? I've got a car, so we could go get coffee or something."

She looked at me like I was crazy, but I could tell that she was thinking about it. "Really? Ditch the assembly for coffee?"

"My treat."

She shrugged and stood up. "Alright, let's go."

She and Vivienne picked up their back packs and followed me out the side door. We ran down the hall and outside to the parking lot, where I pulled out my keys to unlock my car.

"There she is! My '76 Vista Cruiser," I said proudly. It was old, and it occasionally gave me trouble in the morning, but I loved it.

I followed Chris outside to the parking lot. This sure was fun. Getting into trouble on the very first day was just the character of me. Ditching assembly was never an idea to me, but it didn't sound too much of a disaster. Coffee would be great. After all, junk food disgusts me.

I'm grinning as Vivienne tugs on to my shirt and is looking at me like I'm insane. Her worried eyes make my let out a huge sigh.

"Are you for real? We don't even know him!" she exclaims.

"I think he's cool. I mean, no assemblies man. You know how boring it is." I whisper back.

Chris gets out his keys, and I see the car beep, a sign to the car has unlocked. He turns to us, touching his shiny car. I stare at it, wide-eyed. This guy has turned out to impress me. I mean, every other guy in this school must have those BMW's and Mercedes', to impress their crushes. Vivienne looked rather dull. She was just worries and totally against the fact that we should ditch.

"Woah!" I say, touching the car. It was smooth, not even a dent.

"Like it?" he asks me, smiling.

"You kidding me? I love it." I stare at it.

Vivienne rolls her eyes. "Look, I think this isn't a good idea. Let's just go back."

Chris gives me a look, and I stare back. No, no. Vivienne, don't do this. I rest a hand on her shoulder, shaking it a little.

"Relax, honey. If we get into trouble, I won't blame it on you. I'll take it." I say, but she shakes her head.

"You guys go on. I can't do this." Vivienne takes her back pack, leaving both of us behind.

I watched Vivienne leave and gave Lena a shrug. "You don't have to go if you don't want to get in trouble."

She shook her head. "No way! I don't want to sit through that stupid assembly. Besides, how often does a strange guy offer you coffee?" she said, hopping in the passenger seat.

Chuckling to myself, I got in next to her. "Alright, so where do you want to 'cruise the vista'?" I said.

"The little coffee shop on South Street is nice," she shrugged. "We could go there."

I quickly backed up and peeled out of the parking lot. I handed her my iPod. "Go ahead and pick any song you want."

I get on the bus feeling super nervous, my first day of high school; should be interesting. It's a short bus ride to the school. I get off and am amazed at how beautiful it is, and that's just the outside, when I step in, I have to pause for a moment to take it all in. I've only been in Conneticut for a year and a half, in New York the schools were nothing like this. I pull out my schedule, and a map of the school as I try to locate my homeroom class. I feel someone grab me by the handle of my bookbag, acting on an instinct I back into a wall until I hear laughing, I turn around, I find my two best friends, Lauren and Matt, Matt between me and the wall, Lauren next to him. "You guys! That's not funny!" I yell at them. They just laugh and pull me in for a group hug. We compare schedules, and all three of us have theatre for homeroom! We head towards where we think the class is, but everyone is called to the auditorium for an assembly. The three of us sit together towards the back, we are some of the first people here, so we can sit whereever, not likely we would get that luxury if the other kids were here, it's pretty much guarenteed that no one will sit here, everyone hates us because we're different and proud of it, but whatever. We talk about the summer and middle school memories from last year and the second semester of the year before. I look at all of the other kids while they come in, I see a guy and two girls leave with their stuff, but a few minutes later one of the girls comes back. Drama already!? Then the assembly starts and everybody shuts up.

When that so-happy-it's-corny lady started yapping, I pulled out my smart phone and looked at the videos I'd taken. I was sitting right in the middle of the auditorium, so there was no way Miss Sunshine would see me. Besides, when it came to secret texting and stuff, I was the master.

Out of the corner of my eye, I saw a guy and two girls get up and sneak out. I looked up from my phone, trying to see who they were. It was Lena, the troublemaker, and her friend, and that swimmer guy...Chris, I think. Yep, Chris--he had that ancient car that I almost hit on the way in.

Chris, Lena, and the other chick walked right out, and I looked back down at my phone. Eddie, who played coach for my community team, had taken some video of my swing. Now I could see what he was talking about--I wasn't getting quite enough rotation in my hips. Good--that would be an easy fix.

I glanced up at the freshmen sitting next to me--they were gawking at the back door Lena and Chris had snuck out of, probably wondering if the whole year was going to be like that. Poor little freshmen--knowing this crowd, things were going to get a lot worse.

I tucked my phone away and watched Sunshine talk. She was wearing a frilly dress that looked quite a bit like cupcake frosting. I frowned, one eyebrow raised. Did she honestly think that dye job looked good? She was so not a natural blonde.

Coming from Lincoln to Harmony was bad enough. Now people knowing how much of a loser I am would be worse. I needed to escape the drunken look and quick... there was supposedly an assembly to attend.

"We have to go, assembly and such. Bitches, it stinks here." One snobby girl said.

They just couldn't shut up. Their voices just made my headache reach a pain I couldn't believe was even possible.

The sound of clicking heels and the door slamming shut was my signal to leave. Grabbing my things, I hurried out of the stall, jumping over the vomit. There was a row of five sinks and a huge mirror on the wall in front of me, looking pristine with crown finishing and a granite counter.

But seeing my reflection was something I wish I could go blind for. I was a wreck. Pale skin, sulking eyes and hollowed cheeks. I was horrible. I never seen myself like this, ever.

Running up to one of the sinks, I splashed some water on my face to refresh myself and tried to fix my look. I was the Jumper for a reason.

Another year, another day, another week, another hour. What was the difference really? It was the same school... just a new year. Well, not necessarily, we ended school only three months ago.

I was in the gym, trying to ignore everything around me. I knew myself that going to this thing was not required but since we got a new Principal and all, why not? Mind as well get to know the too-perky-to-be-nice-must-be-a-bitch Principal. But I couldn't stand the boredom. She looked like an evil Professor, trying to do anything to get what she wants, destroying dreams in the process.

Either I was too pessimistic or my assumptions were right. Fine, or close to right.

I looked over the crowd, noticing tons of new people. Not only was she the surprise this summer but so was the transfer of Lincoln students to here. Honest mistake that was. Those kids are from the dark side of town... like I was. But they're straight from it, I got civilized I guess. She transformed the school to a better position, good, we needed makeovers, but these teen angst freaks? I would counter-act that.

"Hello fellow students! I would like to gladly present myself as your new Principal: Mrs. Sherwater..." and that's when I zoned out.

Chris hands me over his iPod, as I swish my hair back. He tells me to choose any song, so I go on to play "We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together By Taylor Swift". Chris seems to be enjoying it, and I soon realize we both were singing it.

We reach the coffee shop, and I make my move to get out first, handing the iPod back. I've always come here with my brothers and we've enjoyed every taste to their coffee. Lillian, an employee of the shop, welcomes us inside and I jump in to give her a hug. She gives us a look, and smirks.

"You better not allow your mom to know you're ditching school." she lectures.

"Breath, Lillian. We're not going to get caught. Its just assembly we're ditching." I say, as Chris and I take our seat.

Lillian asks us to give her a minute as she goes to handle another customer. Chris is texting someone on his cell, and I look through the menu.

"So, you know this place well, huh?" he asks me.

"Yeah. Its a fine place to have coffee." I say.

Lillian comes back with a small book and pen on her hand, waiting for us to give in our orders. I'm staring at her hair, and soon snap back to reality.

"What would you guys like?" she asks us.

"I think I'll go with hot chocolate." I pronounce. "What about you?" I ask Chris.

"I'll have a cinnamon tea and a lemon poppy seed muffin," I said, giving her a wink.

She nodded and went back behind the counter.

"You have a great singing voice, ya know," I said to Lena. "You were belting out those lyrics."

She laughed. "Thanks, you do too."

"Thanks. Singing is kind of a hobby for me," I said, shrugging. "Nothing better than jamming out to a good song."

Lillian brought out our drinks and my muffin. I take a second to breathe in the rich spiciness of the tea before taking a sip.

"I've got to hand it to you, this place is good," I said before taking another sip of my tea.

"Yeah, I used to come here all the time," she said, gripping her mug for warmth. "It's just relaxing."

I nodded, taking a bite of my muffin. "My mom loves coffee. She'd probably really like this place."

Lena's phone suddenly vibrated and she sighed when she lpoked at the message. "It's Vivienne. She says the assembly's almost over. Looks like we have to go back."

What a piece of work is a man! How noble in reason, how infinite in faculty, in form and moving how express and admirable, in action how like an angel, in apprehension how like a god -- the beauty of the world, the paragon of animals!
— William Shakespeare
