We're starting!

Ryder Levy

This was nothing we were prepared—ready for. None of us saw it coming. Black clouds scattered the evening sky as I led my group through the deserted streets “The One” Has taken over. Surely there would be some guards around here, which is why we had to take a close lookout. Alyxa was by my side at all times. If she got lost or rather hurt, I would haunt myself for all eternity. Relm stayed at the back of the group as we walked and I hesitated before letting Hayden take charge. I stepped next to her.

“Hayden, Will you do me a favor?” I asked, knowing she knew around the town just like I did.

She nods.

“Okay, Thanks. There’s an abandoned drugstore over by the town center that we will be staying in until further warnings. It’s called Garfunkel’s. There’s a sign on it that tells you where it is,” I tell her before pulling Relm aside and letting the group go.

Alyxa looked back at me worriedly. I nod as in our special- It’s okay, you know Hayden. If you need me then just call me, okay?

She sighs and turns away as I look back at Relm.

“What’s your problem?” I ask, irritated.

She doesn’t answer and just crosses her arms before rolling her eyes.

I sigh and try to control this situation as best I could. “Tell me!” I don’t realize I’m yelling until I hear it blurt out.

“I don’t want to be here,” She says, looking back over at me.

“You think we all do? Nope. Wrong. Would you rather be held HOSTAGE by the New Order? Or fight it and just become a normal teen again?” I ask, completely annoyed now.

She sighs and crosses one foot over the other while looking down. “Neither,” She argues.

“Wrong answer,” I say calmly, shaking my head. “Just…Deal okay?” I ask, leaning against the wall while watching the others disappear.

Ryder the man I went to after Andrew had been taken by the order who by force brought me into this dumb rebel group. The One couldn't be beat he was charged with who knows what, I far more smarter than Ryder was, he just played figure head for the rest of the group, Alyexa was the only real friend I had in the group no else by any means ever talked to a shy little girl like me. But I wish Andrew was around so I didn't have to be with Ryders group of rebels. Dad where could you possibly be when I needed you most?

"But, nothing will be normal for me. Even when the order is defeat nothing will be normal for me, I'm stuck as some super powered freak of nature." I aruged back in my tiny voice.

Ryder slams his fist into the wall and I hop back scared, he looks at me with an annoyed look and I could already tell he was about to yell, but no matter how prepared I felt it still made me scared of Ryder even tho I should be looking up to him.

"What's your problem?! Don't you remember that Andrew is gone?! That the order had taken him away from you?! He wou;d want you to fight for him?!" Ryder yells.

"But.. but." I said on the verge of crying.

I ran from Ryder crying my eyes out at some dark corner away from Ryder as I sooner or later caught up with the group I was forced into, I hated Ryder for what he was doing to me. I didn't want to fight the order Andrew no matter how hard or bad it got during his fights never wanted me to fight at all. But now he was gone and I was stuck with Ryder forcing me to fight the order, I walked far behind the group where Ryder soon caught up with the others.

I walked near the front-middle section of the group of rebels walking to Garfunkel’s. I pace slowly along with the group, keeping stride without a problem. I look around the group many times, some people are socializing casually but most people wear a mask of sadness. A couple people at the very front of the group are talking loudly. I can just make out what they're saying, something about a person named Andrew. I assume from the tone that he's dead.

We've all lost, and The One is going to pay for his crimes

I feel a tingle in the back of my head, and then a girl a few paces ahead of me glances back at me. She has brown hair, she looks slightly similar to the boy up front.

I don't say anything, but I think silently to myself as I walk.

I make sure to stick to the shadows, the place I'm most comfortable with, and I light a cigarette as I examine the surroundings. I laugh at how rundown the building we're in is. What? The Order can't afford decent lighting and wallpaper that doesn't make me want to throw up? And this rag-tag team of "rebels" isn't very good either. They all look weak, beaten. Sorry excuses. I'm glad I chose the occupation I did. The rest of them wouldn't have the guts to.

I stalked around, keeping my distance from Toby. The cigarette he was carrying was bothering my nose and made my stealth more complicated than I was. I knew just by looking at him that he was a fellow spy, but it was his health that was troubling me. I didn't know much about him, apart from his name and occupation. Just out of boredom, I used my telepathic power to make him think there were rats in the house. I myself couldn't stand rats. Even the One knew I was scared to death of rats.

Ryder makes me leave with the others as he and Relm stay behind. A knotted feeling bubbles up in my stomach after getting a gist of Ryder's purpose for doing so. I try and stay out of his business half the time, but hate it when he deliberately shut me out of things. I'm not a child anymore. Why can't people see that?

One of the others, Harrison if I remember correctly, catches in my line of sight when I look back for the two of them and glances back at me. I make nothing of it and turn back around, slightly blushing at the possibility of him thinking I'd been purposefully looking at him.

After a while, he and Relm rejoin the group as we walk, Relm at the back and Ryder in the front. I ignore my brother, sensing his temper and wanting to avoid it, and head back to Relm, who is more unstable than I can come to understand. A few minutes of silence pass before I gain the courage to talk to the only one who I've come to consider a friend so far.

"A-are you okay?" I ask in a whisper, out of earshot of anyone else. Especially Ryder.

The girl blushes slightly, then goes off from the group to talk to someone. I move to the outside of the group to get out of the crowd, I've never liked crowds. But I misstep and trip forward.

Quickly I catch myself in midair with my telekinesis. I'm hovering two or so feet off the ground. I get back up and get back to walking again.

Okay, hopefully no one saw that...

“Can you do me a favor?” Ryder asks.

I nod my head.

“Okay, Thanks. There’s an abandoned drugstore over by the town’s center that we will be staying in until further warnings. It’s called Garfunkel’s. There’s a sign on it that tells you where it is,” He says. I know exactly what he is talking about.

I nod and run toward the drug store. The wind is forceful and smacks my face as I run. Lighting strikes and I pick up my pace. I see the drug store. I go to open the doors, but there are chains locking it. “Crap.” I exclaim. I take a few steps back and look at the door. Ramming it will do not good. Instead, I lift my leg up and bring my foot down as hard as I can and break the chain. I shot of pain goes through my ankle. I look down and see it is bleeding and touch it. The blood goes away and so does the scar. I open the door and look before stepping inside. I do not see anyone here, but I feel like there is. I take one step in and nothing happens, another step, we are fine. But the third step I hear a click. The sound of a bullet being clicked into place. I Quickly hit the floor and hear a few shoot fire. Feet shuffle around the room and I freeze. I feel a person hovering over me. I snap my leg up and kick them, throwing them to the ground. I get up and grab there gun. “You do not move.” I say to them. “Are there others of you in here?” I ask.

“I would rather die than tell you that.” He says.

I shrug my shoulders. “Hey suites me just fine.” I shoot him and his breath stops. I hate killing people. There is a peck at my heart. The only pain I can’t heal. I walk down the stairs and make no sound. I feel the walls for a light switch. I flick it on and a knife flies at my arm. “Great this place is a death trap to.” I say. I pull the knife out of my arm and watch the hole disappear. I walk around the room and things fly at me and stab me, but I have to trigger them all to cut them off. Once I search the entire room, I start back to get the others. I pass the guy I killed and shut the door. I wrap the chain around it to look like no one has entered. I run back.

“It’s ready.” I say.

I was hiding behind a large dumpster when I hear people walk down the deserted street.I watched them well they where going past but two of them stopped and started to talk about something that was out of my earshot so I just watched them over waiting for them to leave. all I wanted was to get to the forest and be safe again so I could feel safe with the warning from the plants and animals.I had built a tree house 30 feet off the ground I had made a vine rope to help blend into the forest to make me feel safer. All I came for was some clean cloths and things to clean my self with. then I hear a gun fire and flea from behind the dumpster and head toward the sound then i trip on the broken side walk and try to get up but a shooting pain goes up my leg so i try to roll into the shadows to stay unnoticed.

When we got to Garfunkle's I noticed Hayden cleared it for us. I flashed a smile before walking in And sitting on one of the clear shelves.

"Alright!" I start, getting everyone's attention. "Set up where your staying. We're gonna talk about strategies. I heard ' The One' sent his best spies to find us. They could be anywhere." I tell them, glancing around.

"AND," I say before they could start talking again. "When I'm not here, Or I'm busy, Harrison and Hayden are in charge," I make things clear. "They know the city just like I do."

I look at Alyxa and flash my award winning smile. "And we all are strong. We can do this. We won't let anyone break us apart."

Alyxa smiles back and I nod, looking at Relm this time. "And we all have to try."

I sigh and nod, jumping off the shelf. "Get to work," I sigh, walking past Hayden. I wink at her before I go to the cash register to see what's in it.

"What are you up to, pesky rebel flies?" I mused, pacing around my living room, arms crossed behind my back. Far below me, people hurried around, heads bent low to shield themselves from the gale that whipped through the streets. Dim sunlight filtered from the wall-to-wall clear glass windows.

I controlled everything, my dominion was total: purchases and sales were traceable, I knew pretty much everything about every inhabitant in the city, my magic allowed me to pry into the minds of the unwary, the skies, seas, and the very earth was at my command... and yet, they eluded me. They eluded me like my daughter did... soon I would have to find both... and crush them.

"X wishes to speak to you, lord Vayne." The metallic voice rang out from the hidden speaers around my room.

Aha. X would certainly bring me information. I stopped pacing and faced impassively out the window. With a flick of my fingers, hidden amongst the folds of my robe sleeves, I opened the secret door that led into my penthouse suite.

"My lord." The impassive, monotonous voice could only be X's.

"You have information?" I asked, doing my best to sound cold and uncaring.

"Not as such," X replied, carefully. "But we're closing in."

"Then why," I hissed, anrgy. "Would you warn me for nothing?!"

I whirled around and splayed my fingers towards the masked, black-clad figure bent on one knee by a nondescript piece of white-washed wall. Immediately, X gasped and clutched at his heart. I closed my fingers into a fist and he rolled around, moaning unintelligible pleas for mercy.

"You should know better." I turned away and gazed out at the tree-tops, eyes unfocused. "Come back only once you have concrete information."

Me in charge? Great another thing I can mess up. I am not good at being in charge. What if I fail? I try to shake those thoughts out of may head and just relax. Ryder winks at me as he walks by. I smile and start to see where I want to stay. I notice I still have the gun in my hand. I take it over to the cash register and slide it to Ryder. “Where did you get this?” he asks.

“Some person upstairs had it. Don’t worry I took care of it.” I say. I walk back over to my spot and sit down. I lean my head against the wall. Killing people is the hardest thing in the world. Taking there life away. What if they had a family? How are they going to react when they find out he is dead? I shake it from my mind and just sit there.

When we reach Garfunkel's, everyone pours into the lobby. And Then Ryder gives us a speech about what we are expected to do. And then he says that if he was gone, or busy, that Hayden and I would be in charge.

Okay, I do know the city pretty well. So that's not a real stretch, but I'm obviously not a leader

I walk around the store for a while, seeing faces I recognize. I reach the clothing section, people are scavenging for new clothes. I find a pair of black cargo shorts.

These look much more comfortable than pants, and I'll be able to move around better.

I keep my white t-shirt and black zip-up hoodie. And then I decide to keep the shorts. I wear my vibrams instead of converse because they're multi-purpose.

I walk around the store aimlessly for quite some time before anyone else approaches me.

I shake my head in response to Ayxa's question as someone else went into the drug store and comes back out reporting in to that jerk Ryder. Ayxa was the only friend I had even if she was Ryder's sister, I look off into the distance to where a skyscraper where "The One" supposedly was ruling from for all Ryder knows it could be bad information. Such an idiot act first think later,

"And we all have to try." I heard Ryder finally.

When I looked in his direction he was glaring evily at me, again with forcing me to fight "The One" god how stupid is he? I looked down at my bracelet that I had been left with by my dad and reread the worlds for I dunno how many times now, I looked up as we all shuffled into the building Ryder acting as always and handing out order's like some big time boss who needs his teeth kicked in. If you asked me at this rate I sooner give them out to the order maybe I could find one of those spies...

I see a few people leave the room. The said something about getting clothes. I stand up and follow them. There are a few racks of clothes in a room I cleaned out a few minutes ago. I go over to a rack with black shorts. I grab a pair and find a tank top. There is a pink on the rack, so I grab it and head to the changing room. I quickly change out of the shirt with a few blood stains and into the pink tank top. I put my short on and walk out of the changing room. I throw my clothes in the trash. I braid my hair over to the side and head back into the room Ryder was in. He is still at the cash register. I stand beside him. “Find anything?” I ask him
