Tyler Spencer/ Charile Newmen

Calmly but swiftly, I walked into the elevator of the building. Turning to face the now closing doors, I reached and pushed the button for the first floor. Clutching my brief case in my right hand, I take an unnoticeable breath. Mission complete. After a second, I hear the "ding" that signifies that I had hit the first floor.

Stepping out, I find myself staring into a mirror. The girl looking back at me looks nothing like me. She has beautiful blonde locks that fall gracefully around her face, serious brown eyes and square glasses. She also wears a business suit and high heels, something I would never wear. I also know that her name is Anna Frank, a secretary at Uni-Care.

Shaking my head a little, I refocus on my mission, not wanting to waist anymore critical seconds. Coming out to the lobby, I make sure that no one is watching me and then glide across the floor toward the spinning doors that lead toward freedom. "Ms. Frank! Please wait!" Hearing my name I stop. Swiftly I turn and find the source of the voice. Adjusting my glasses, I address him. "How can I be of assistance?"

"Well-" before he could even answer the alarm in the building goes off. He looks surprised, bids me a speedy farewell then runs off. Once again I head toward the front doors. Coming though them I inwardly smiles. Freedom.

Walking down the street a couple blocks, I come upon a taxi sitting at the curve. Going to it, the window rolls down and a man in sunglasses looks at me. "Yes Miss?" he asks.

"I need a ride to building 401." I request. The man nodded and unlocked the rear left door. Immediately I got in. Once the window was up, I torn off the highly uncomfortable wig, took off the glasses and took out the contacts. Try as the may, they will never find Anna Frank again.

"Well, Charlie, how did it go?" the man asked.

"Mission Complete." I stated.

"Good, let's go back. I am going to need a report on what you found by tomorrow morning, understand?" he asked while looking at her though the review mirror.

"Yes sir."

I pulled out my gin and whirled around to face her, with the gun resting at a point between her brows. Point-blank range. "Why'd you shoot him?" I asked Lucifer calmly. I didn't like this chick, and I didn't trust her much, either. I was sure she was working for her own motives - she wouldn't hesitate to sell us out if she thought it would help her.

She looked back at me, unfazed and said, "He wouldn't stop when I asked him to, even though we said we were friends."
"Listen, you're not our 'friend'. You're not one of us. I don't trust you or like you. The only reason we're working together is because you know where my friends are, and if you pull another stunt like that, I won't hesitate to shoot you. Remember that."

She smirked at me and said, "Oh, and you think you can match me? With my experience in bounty hunting?" I flicked off the safety, and turned away, heading to check on Con. I stopped at the entrance to the alley he'd dragged himself into, and without looking back, I said, "Listen kid, I've looked up your file too. I only hope you've seen mine, because I don't think you've ever heard of the Wildcard. Y'see, I was killing people when you and your mum were getting raped. So I'd watch it if I were you."

I heard the sound of a blade being drawn, and I spun and caught it before it hit it's mark. She'd been aiming to kill. I pulled out both guns this time, one in each hand. Then looking at her, I sighed. "Pity I'm not the mindless killer I once was. This wont get us anywhere. So I'm going to be the adult here and walk away." I pocketed my guns and headed to check on Con.

He was bleeding badly, and it didn't help that he was in a drug haze. "We need to get him to Amos." I murmured. I'd become stronger because of the infiltration mission, and I managed to lift him and put him in the car. I didn't look around to see if Lucifer had climbed in, I just strapped myself in. I needn't have worried thogh, she was next t me as we drove out.

Enter Sean …

Sean Phoenix

It was too quiet. Way too quiet. Framed pictures of me growing up as a kid covered the walls of the lounge. It should’ve made me feel comfortable. Or happy even, to be back in my childhood home after all these years. But it didn’t. I felt like I was in a mausoleum. I couldn’t even bring myself to look up. I just sat on the couch with my head buried in my hands, listening to the noiselessness around me. It was the noise of nothing, of emptiness ...

Of being alone.

I kicked the coffee table in frustration and laid my head back against the couch. I tried to take my mind off everything. Of losing my mom, of not being there during her rehabilitation, of not being able to say goodbye to her before she passed, but that line of thinking only led back to Becky.

A familiar ache started gnawing at my stomach. I’d never admit it, but it hurt like hell when she didn’t call me back that day. I still don’t know why, but I needed her then. If only to talk to her for a minute and tell her how I felt. But she ignored me. I didn't get it. I thought we were friends. I thought we had each others back. But, obviously I was wrong. The ache in my stomach disappeared and was quickly replaced by a frown on my forehead. I wasn’t going to think about it. She clearly didn’t give a damn so why the heck should I?

I got up off the couch slowly and headed for the bathroom. I had no idea what time of day it was, but judging by the darkness creeping through the drawn curtains, it was obviously late. I stepped inside and gripped the sides of the sink. Looking up at myself in the mirror on the cabinet, I stared at my reflection with steady, cold eyes. They travelled down the paleness of my skin and fell on the left-side of my neck. I carefully removed it to reveal the calligraphic tattoo bearing the name of the 9-0 gang.

Oscar and I had gotten it done together almost eight years ago when we were first initiated into the gang. Back then we were so close we were practically blood brothers. I would’ve even named my kid after him if I had one. But all that changed. Not only did he kill an innocent group of kids right in front of me with my own gun, he had the nerve to show up a few years later as a member of a Cort gang, pretending to be a changed man. I saw right through him, but no one else believed me. And when he finally got caught out, he ran back to the 9-0 and ratted on me.

I stared hard at the calligraphic tattoo, my jaw tightening in fury. I’d catch him and make him pay. I didn’t know how, and I didn’t know when. But I’d damn well do it. Even if it killed me in the process.

This ended up being kind of a long post, so I put in spoiler a part that you don't have to read to understand the meaning of the whole post.

Rebecca Scout

I rolled the small piece of paper around in my hand. My Leave Pass. The only thing that was letting me go out at ten o'clock at night on a thursday. I had been surprised how easily I was able to lie to my commanding officer about the "family emergency" that required me to leave. It wasn't entirely a lie. The gang had been a kind of family to me.

Spoiler
I walked up to the old door, and knocked. Two sharp raps on the front. The voices inside suddenly fell silent. I heard an unfamiliar one mumble 'police'. It sounded like it came from an older gentleman.

The door opened a crack, "Yes?" I saw sharp eyes scan up and down my attire, and I was aware I was still in partial uniform.

"My name is Scout, Rebecca Scout. Vintelleci told me to meet her here." I held out the note she had given me earlier in the day, and debated producing my cell phone to prove she had called. He looked it over, then opened the door fully.

"You do not look like her other friends," he was still skeptical, the doubt radiated off of him in waves.

"I can imagine." I didn't meet his eyes, but looked towards the staircase, "Where is she?"

"Becky?" I heard a familiar voice call down the stairs, then watched as Andrea walked down, her shoes clicking on the wood. Her hands were covered in blood. I made a pointed glance, questioning the reason.

"Con's upstairs, he's kind of a mess. Lucifer shot him." Andrea took a paper towel off of a table, and whiped her hands off.

A torrent of questions poured through my head, but I shoved them all back, opting for only the most important one. I looked at Andrea; "What do you need from me?"

"First," she handed me her cell phone, "call Sean. I want to talk to everyone, and I want everyone here before I do. Convince him to come, somehow." She looked at my face, then shook her head, walking back up the stairs.

She wanted me to call Sean? Why? Why did I have to do it?

I kept a straight face and dialed, even through the pouding heart in my chest. I cleared my throat, hoping I could keep my voice even.

He picked up on the last ring.

"Andrea?" His voice was strained, he sounded almost angry. A part of me was curious, wanted to ask him what was wrong.

Keep a straight face.

"It's Scout, Rebecca Scout," I swallowed, waiting for his response.

"What?" He sounded confused, as if he'd never heard the name before.

I spoke quickly, cursing the sound of my old name: "Sean, it's Becky." With those words, I was closer to my old life than I had been in almost a year.

Con cried his damn eyes out as I checked over his wound one last time, it was offical he was a big baby. The bullet had barely grazed him and here he was crying because of a cut. I could understand a gun shot wound, but a cut was nothing in compare to, I let his leg fall and stood up after I was sure he was fine and the wound treated properly.

"Oh stop crying you big baby, it's at most a cut on your damn leg." I said.

"Shut up." He yelled.

I get up and not even bother responding as I clean my guns over again, reloading the gun I had fired from to take down Con and watch Wildcard carefully, something told me she wouldn't hesitate to back stab me given the chance. I understood one thing when it came to gang's and that was outsiders weren't to be trusted. That was one thing I could understand, but after helping her track down Rebecca and find the others and bring the Cort Gang back together, even tho I haven't full yet. But I do plan on joining the gang weather she liked it or not. I deserve a spot after all this, not to mention uncovering a few "minor" details about there police chiefs. But right now I had focused on getting the job done first.

"What you going to do? shot me?" I hear Conrad behind me.

"No the Cort Gang needs you alive, just be happy I don't turn none of you into the police and collect a huge reward for it." I said.

"Yea whatever all the members of the Cort Gang have been in the slammer at one time or another." He said.

I was back on the couch, a can of Red Bull in one hand, and a small cigarette in the other. I hated the way the shit tasted, but nowadays it was the only thing that seemed to keep me from losing my mind. Just when I was about to take another long drag, my cell phone vibrated on the coffee table. For a couple of seconds I just froze, staring down at the lit up screen. No one called me. Not since the team broke up. I moved in closer to see Vintecelli’s name appear on the caller ID and my face formed an angry frown. She was just another unresponsive team member who hadn’t kept in contact. I let it ring for a while, before I finally put down my cigarette to answer.

“Andrea?” I made sure the anger was crystal clear in my voice.

There was a brief pause before she answered. “It’s Scout, Rebecca Scout.”

The affects of the cigarette finally seemed to be kicking in because my mind suddenly started hazing. “What?” I asked in confusion.

“Sean, it’s Becky.”

And just like that, everything cleared up again.

It was Becky.

There were so many things I wanted to say, so many curse words I wanted to use. All that pent up anger I had inside me was just dying to come out. But, I kept it bottled. A few seconds passed before I finally responded. “What do you want?” My voice came out commanding, and frighteningly cold.

I don't even know how I got here. My high hadn't worn off until I was set in the bed I'm in now, and the girl who'd shot me starts checking over my wound, but I'm anything but sober.

"Oh stop crying you big baby, it's at most a cut on your damn leg," She drops my leg, having treated it.

I wince and squeeze my eyes shut, my jaw tight and head spinning.

"Shut up!" I yell.

She gets up and starts cleaning her gun. I swear a whole line of curses towards her and try and sit up, tired of being on my stomach. A pain shoots through my body all at once and I give up, huffing a sigh as I drop back down. I can't help but think of Tyler and the last time I'd seen her. My ankle throbs at the thought and I inwardly groan.

"What are you going to do? Shoot me?" I glance at the girl, hoping she would. It save me from the hell I'll face if she doesn't...

"No, the Cort Gang needs you alive..." she goes on about the police and collecting a reward but I stop listening.

The Cort Gang?

"Yeah, whatever. All the members of the Cort Gang have been in the slammer at one time or another," I respond to her comment about turning us all in to get a reward.

What would they want with me again?

This was a mess. I was a mess. I watched as Becky spoke to Sean, my gut twisting as I remebered the many calls he'd made and how I never responded to any of them. It's not like I could've - if I'd answered, he would've been caught and killed immediately.

Becky snapped the phone shut and passed it back to me. "We done here Vintelleci? I need to get back to the barracks." I looked at her curiosly, and wondered, not for the first time - what they'd done to our fearless team leader. "Almost done, Beck. What did Sean say?" I asked. She grit her teeth when I called her by her old nickname, but I just looked at her pointedly till she responded. "He said he'd meet us at the old pub downtown, tomorrow at nine." "Can you leave?"

She looked at me scornfully. "Why would I do that?" "If yo don't I'll come in after you. It doesn't makd much of a difference to you, I'm sure. But would yoj be able to stand it if they killed me, Becky? An old comrade?" This time she visibky flinched, but still said nothing. I looked at her and asked her, "Tell me, Beck. How long has it been sinve you had a smoke? Or a beer and a little fun?" I hopes it would dothe truck. If these questions didn't bring back the Becky I knew, nothing would.

Tyler Spencer/ Charlie Newmen

By the time I got home, it was late and I was exhausted. Tossing the wig and everything else on the table, I went and allowed myself to sink it to the couch. For a second, I let my eye wander around the room. It was fairly nice, but for some reason if never felt like home. Honestly, I missed the little house that the gang shared. It was nice to have people around. Thinking about the past just made the house feel even more empty.

Sighing, I reached out for the coffee table, grabbed my laptop and then proceeded to put my feet on the table. Placing the laptop on my lap, I started to type everything I found out about Uni-Care. I had also found out other things, but those were not going in the report. I was about halfway though when I suddenly heard a strange sound.

Freezing in mid-type, I listened. Nothing. Figuring it was just the neighbors, I started to type again. Seconds later, another noise and this one was closer. Putting the laptop to the side, I stood up and started toward the direction of the noise. Suddenly, I felt something cold at the base of my neck. "Hands up. Don't move." a masculine voice instructed.

Slowly, I move my hands up. Closing my eyes, I counted to five and then started my counter strike. Moving my head out of the line of fire, I wrapped my arm around his and thrust the heel of my hand in his windpipe. He drops like a fly. I have also acquired the gun he was holding. Aiming it at him, I ask "Who sent you?".

He does not answer, but I can see the fear in his eyes, he's knows who I am and what I am capable of. Pulling the trigger, I let the bullet land next to his head. "Tell me."

Swallowing, he puts his hands up. "CIA...please...don't kill me." Swiftly I toss the gun to the side. I can see the relief now, but as soon as the knife comes out it's gone. A black liquid drop slides down the blade menacingly. Grabbing my bag, I leave and I can still hear the screams that echo through my house. Sirens are also coming.

None of that matters now though, all I know is that I am wanted -again- and that the other's might be too. Quickly and quietly, I disappeared going to find my friends. Once again I have become Tyler; not Charlie, not Anna, just Tyler and man did it feel good.

After cleaning my guns for the ummmtenith time, I grew bored and went to the fridge to see if there was anything to drink. The fridge was empty nothing inside and didn't seem like it was even on at all. I ignored the fact of the smell, and closed the fridge and went over to my laptop, going though wanted lists. starting with local police wanted list and working my way higher and higher until I come across the CIA wanted list. And that's where I saw it.

"Tyler Spencer, wanted for stealing top secret intel, wanted dead or alive as long as the intel she stole is in hand with her body. Reward money is 10K in cash." I read.

"Ah son of a-" I stop myself.

I barged out into the hallway with Wildcard and who I believed was Rebecca with her back to Wildcard. I didn't know what was going on between them, but then again I honestly didn't care.

"Tyler became wanted on the CIA most wanted list, we going to go after her or we headed for Sean?" I ask.

I walked out, slamming the door behind me, and got into the Mercury the base had let me borrow.

Thirty miles either way. I drummed my fingers on the steering wheel. One direction will take me back to base, the other to Sean. I knew I wanted to see him. The second I had heard the pain in his voice. I had to help him.

But I couldn't go against my Captain.

I began to drive back to base. Five minutes later, I turned around.

*****

I knocked on the door, more gently than I had earlier in the evening. Had it been only a few hours ago? It felt like so much more. I felt years away from yesterday, as if my gun training had never occured.

Hesitant footsteps approached the door. I pictured him drawing a gun, walking steadily to just in front of the hinges.

"It's me again," I spoke just loud enough so he could hear, "I apologize if I'm interupting anyhting". A moment later the door clicked open, and I saw Sean again for the first time. He was thinner, pale, and his hair had grown much longer.

"What do you want now?" I couldn't make out the emotion in his voice.

"I was hoping to see you before tomorow." My voice wavered between flatline and normal, he scanned me over, as if he didn't believe I was there. I noticed him stare expecially at my arms, bare skin where tattoos had once been. I noticed a thick smell of beer and smoke wafted off of him, and it concerned me. I searched to control my voice; "What happened to you?"

To say that I was surprised when Becky showed up at my mom’s doorstep would be an understatement. I didn’t hear from her for nearly two years and now she calls and shows up here all on the same day?

“What do you want now?” I asked her bluntly, my voice in monotone.

“I was hoping to see you before tomorrow,” she said. I just stared at her. Everything about her just looked so different now; her face, her clothes, the way she handled herself. But what struck me the most was her bare arms. The Becky I knew would rather jump off a cliff then get rid of her beloved tattoos. Then again, maybe the Becky I knew had changed. “What happened to you?” she asked me after a while.

I met her eyes and saw concern in them. I wanted to say that maybe if she’d picked up my calls she would know, but I didn’t. I wasn’t going to act like a child or show her that it got to me. Instead I responded with just two words: “Life happened.”

I didn’t look to see her reaction. An uncomfortable spell of silence fell between us broken only by the sounds of cars driving by and dogs barking from nearby houses. The silence seemed to last a lifetime, before I decided to break it. “You should go. It’s not safe for you to be here.” With that, I closed the door. But, I only managed to shut it halfway before Becky’s hand stopped it firmly.

“Tell me what happened, Sean,” she said.

Sean glanced me over, then held the door open just enough for me to get through. I stepped in, and he shut it, but didn't move from where he had been standing.

"Oscar sold me out," Sean talked to the floor, "to the 9-0 gang. They've been after me since. My mom died a little while back-" his voice turned bitter, "in case you didn't know."

"And you've been here since?" It was killing me to keep my voice even. I didn't know why I was even doing it. Maybe to prove to myself that I could. "Sean," I let my voice shift back to normal. It sounded strange, like the voice of a distant childhood friend, "I'm sorry. I didn't know what to do when I got your call. I got really caught up in the military training and convinced myself not answering your call was some type of, I don't know prove to myself that to move on from the past I had to let go."

"You were trying to move on?" Pain leaked through his voice, and he still didn't look at me.

"That's not what I meant. I wanted to be strong so that I wouldn't let you guys down again. I didn't want emotions to play into my leadership." My voice again became the monotone, "I was never a leader before for you, ever. But I'm ready to be." I looked out the window, hands clasping behind my back, "I wasn't expecting it to be so soon. I assumed I'd have a few more weeks to prepare."

"You don't seem like you need it." The words were bitter daggers that shot through almost every wall I had built up. The simple sentence, and the way he had spoken almost tore me down.

I swallowed, and kept my eyes out the window. It was a long moment before I spoke; "Thank you."

I knew I shouldn’t have said it, but I couldn’t help myself. I felt like I was drowning in my own anger and bitterness, and I hated myself for it. I could tell Becky took it hard because her eyes were avoiding mine, still locked on the window like it was her lifeline. Another uncomfortable spell of silence fell between us, this one lasting much longer than the last. When it started becoming unbearable, Becky finally spoke. “I should get going …”

It wasn’t until she started walking up to the door that I finally found my own voice. “What I said …” I swallowed and ran a sheepish hand through my curls, “I didn’t mean it like that -”

“It’s fine,” she interrupted. She approached the door and I stood aside to open it for her. She nodded in thanks and stepped out into the cold night. Just as she started walking towards her car, she suddenly stopped in her tracks and turned to head back towards me again. “Look, I know it’s been a while, Sean. I know a lot has happened and I know we’ve both changed. But, that doesn’t mean we can’t still work together, right?”

I thought about for a moment before responding, “I guess not.”

She half-smiled at that, a grateful and relieved look appearing on her face. “So I’ll be seeing you tomorrow then?”

I nodded in response. The gang getting back together again was just about the only good thing I had left in my life. I wasn’t about to turn it down, no matter how mad I was at the rest of the team.
