JUNE Fiction Workshop! [Second Session Canceled]

I'm very sorry, I hate having to cancel things I said would happen. Come one, come all, to the June Fiction Workshop! On June 2, we will be exploring the world of Flash Fiction writing: its styles, its conventions, and its construction. Flash fiction, for those who may be unaware, is a style of story that is incredibly short. Usually less than 1,000 words, on average, these pieces share a story with the same effectiveness as a longer piece, but with fewer words to do it in. If you’ve never tried writing flash fiction before, come try your hand! If you’re a flash fiction master, come share your wisdom with the rest of us! All are welcome, and all are encouraged to attend.

This month’s workshop will be held by myself, Lauren2010, and maybe a surprise guest or two.

As we have in the past, there will be two sessions of the workshop. The workshops will be held at 2PM GMT and 12AM GMT on Saturday, June 2nd (that date applies for people in GMT-5, but it may vary for other timezones. Essentially, in my time zone - GMT-5 - the workshops are at 9AM and 7PM June 2nd). Here is a helpful converter so you know what time it will be in your part of the world.

The workshop will be held in a Google document that I will share here – as well as PM to all interested folk – the day of the workshop. I also tend to barrage chat with the link for a good hour beforehand. If there are any questions, concerns, etc, please don’t hesitate to shoot me a PM!

Lili - a fiction workshop is essentially a bunch of YWSers getting together in a google document to discuss some element of fiction writing (with this time being flash fiction). We have discussions, do writing exercises, and generally share our knowledge with each other to improve all of our writing abilities.

You don't need a google account in order to participate, either, and it's really simple to do. There's a chat area on the document, as well as the document itself where we hold our discussions and exercises. It's really just a fun time hanging out and talking about the craft of writing fiction!

Hmm... Saturday, is it not? I'm in! At least, I'll try my best to be there. Never tried writing flash fiction before so this will be a new experience.

The longest the Fiction Workshop can run is about 90 minutes. It's lasted only an hour before as well. Depends on how quickly it moves!

Scratch that. I can't make the 12am session, though I'll try to make the 2pm one.
