Kayla

"I-I-I'm Kayla," I stuttered.

"Hello Kayla," she said holding her hand out to me, "I'm Ariana, this is Riley."

I nodded, not trusting my tongue to not twitch as I spoke again. I could feel my whole body shaking even though I did my best to stop it.

Caspan led me over to a couch where another avain and girl~who fit the mage's description~was sitting. He sat me down in a chair and pulled another up close to me.

Caspan-

I sat down in the chair and glanced over to Christian, a smug smile plying on my lips.

"How are you?" i asked conversationally, my lips twitching. He glanced over irritably.

"What do you want?"

"Nothing."

He snorted. My eyes traveled over to the girl sitting next to him. Her blue eyes studied me curiously in turn, her brown hair shifting slightly as she turned her head...

"You!" i gasped in astonishment, standing. "You're the one the mage was looking for!"

Ramere-

I stepped over to where my father stood, Arabella following behind. I took her hand in mine, leading her with me.

"What's going on?" i asked, coming to stand beside him. He looked over at me.

"We-"

"You! You're the one the mage was looking for!" Caspan's voice rose above the quite din of murmured conversation. We all turned to look, noticing that anger was absent in his words, instead replaced by surprise.

I stared at her, unsure how to feel. She looked frightened, probably just as frightened as I was but with more reason. I suddenly felt very stupid.

"Why is he looking for you?" Caspan continued.

"She overheard a plan to take over the tower." Christian said.

"So I guess it's our turn to take care of things?"

I was too afraid to ask what that meant.

"You're the one the mage is looking for!"

I looked past the avian at the girl, who looked very frightened. Mages hunting someone who seems harmless? I definitely don't like where this seems to be going.

"She overheard a plan to take over the tower." The avian explained. Well that explains a whole lot. At least I seem to have picked the right side for this. I hope.

"So I guess it's our turn to take care of things?"

I looked around, confused, "Wait, can someone explain to me exactly what's going on? What is this tower? And what exactly do you mean by 'our turn to take care of things'?"

Storm-

Storm watched everything that was happening. Who would be stupid enough to try and take over the tower. That didn't make a lick of sense. He looked at the girl sitting next to his cousin. Her face didn't shine happy like it had earlier, she was scared. He didn't blame here. Mages could be scary things. He had learned that the hard way.

Cara-

Cara didn't like all the attention on her. She scooted a little closer to Christian and he put his arm around her shoulders. She wanted to know what they meant by take care of things too. Fire walked in grumbling about the noise as he laid down at her feet.

Are they thinking they are going to deal with this themselves? He scoffed.

Ramere-

I stepped forward. "When my cousin mentions 'the tower', he is referring to The Tower of Sorcery, where many of the mages live. If any one rogue mage plans on taking this, they're in for a unpleasant surprise."

Caspan looked over at me, a mischievous glint to his eyes. "But why give him the chance?"

I turned to regard the girl. "Please, what did you hear? This could make all the difference."

I held Cara close as she explained everything that she heard. It wasn't just one mage it was five, maybe not so stupid, but still stupid.

"Don't worry Cara," I assured, "he'll never get close enough and now we all know."

"That just means you're in danger now too."

"Honey," My mom said coming back, "its sort of a rite of passage with our family."

"What do you mean?" the girl with my brother asked.

Caspan-

I looked over at Kayla. "Well, my grandfather, Gerard, and his brother," i gestured to Nathaniel who sat at the table, watching us all carefully. Though he was in his seventies, he did not look it. "were the first to come upon trouble. Together with Bella and Alise, they overcame the demons that threatened them.

"Then, my mother and father, along with the others you see here," here i gestured to Natan, Davnix, Valentina and Velna. "overcame the demons that threatened my mother.

"And now it's our turn for an adventure."

"Oh," I said, afraid to ask the next question. I wondered if I would be able to come along, I wasn't afraid of danger, just shy. Hopefully I could get over that soon, at least with them.

*sorry that's all*

Caspan-

I could see the question burning in her eyes, even if she did not voice it. I smiled, laying a hand on her shoulder.

"Of course you can come."

I smiled and rested my head on his hand. Was I really that transparent? I blushed, I could tell that he could feel it against his hand. He moved it away and put it around my shoulders.

"How can you all be so calm about this?" Cara exclaimed.

"It's old news," Christian said.

Storm-

Storm listened to everything quietly.

"You do realize we have a problem, right?" He asked looking at the others.

"What?" Christian asked,

"Our parents aren't about to let us go off chasing a bunch of power hungry mages." He said crossing his arms and leaning against the wall. "Course, they say we cant do anything they haven't, well they took off after a demon on their own. I'm sure we could do the same, they did." He grinned,

Cara-

Cara looked at the guy who was talking. He had the weirdest eyes, they scared her a little. She looked at the others. Such a strange group. She was never going to live it down if any of them go hurt because of this though.

Quite the 'I'll feel bad for them' party, Cara, this is getting old, why are you suddenly so scared? Fire demnanded,

Cause I'm having enough time to acctually stop and think. She replied.

Ramere-

I smiled at Storm's words. "You have a point there..."

My father coughed. I looked over, cringing slightly. I had completely forgotten their presence.

He stared at me sternly for a moment before his face broke out into a grin.

"And you weren't going to include us in the fun?"

Caspan-

I stepped forward, chuckling lightly. "Excuse me for saying, and don't turn me into a toad or anything, but...you're not exactly as young as you once were."

Most of the others laughed, along with Natan.

"Again, he has a point," Ramere said, still laughing. I saw him squeeze Arabella's hand lightly in his, though i couldn't tell if he meant to or not. I too took Kayla's hand in mine, following his example.

Hope he doesn't decide to turn me into a toad... I thought, though I wouldn't put it past Natan.

Kayla

My heart nearly beat its way out of my chest, Bad Kayla! He can hear it! I was sure he could. Damn him I mentally growled. How did he do that so easily?

"So I take it we're going to be left behind?" one of the adults said.

I saw them all grin, "yep."

"Kill joy," the avain woman said teasingly.
I just lost the game.
