"Hey," I said, spinning around. "Where's Trevor?" Then something in the distance caught my eye. The glow of our camp looked...off, somehow, like something was out of place. I dialed back into the middle infrared, the best wavelength band for seeing at night. At this frequency, I could make out individual people. There--there were two shapes crouched in the bushes, just outside our camp. They couldn't be loyalists--none of our guys would leave the camp at night unless directly ordered to.
"Trevor?" I called quietly. "Where are you?" I hoped desperately that Trevor was back at camp. Simon was an alright sentry, but his mind could wander sometimes. If someone didn't catch those people, we could be in serious trouble.
"Tori," I began, "I have to go check on something." I stood up, tuned my vision to the near infrared, and took off into the forest, running as fast as I could. I had to find someone. Those people had to be seen.
