That's what that note was about. Jeez.
Syca offered to stay in the room next to mine and began with her plan just as the other guy asked what was going on. Ann was still in the other room; who knew where everyone else was? Why are there eight hundred eleven things to take care of at once?

"I'm with you," I said, both to Syca and Taylor - she looked like she needed it. "I'll do whatever I can."

"Well," said Sarah, "a plan is better than just waiting. Count me in."

"Is there anything we can do now, or does it have to wait until midnight?" Sarah asked. "And, wait, where is Ann?"

Syca

"Hey, dude!" she called back to Lucas, "Ge back here! We need to stick together!"
He turned around, quirked an eyebrow at her. When he came back, she turned to the others and said,"Listen, all we need to do is pick a hiding place in Taylor's room. Taylor, I'm sorry, but you'll have to be our bait."
The girl's lip tightened, but she nodded.
Syca continued,"We need to find Toby, so all we need to do is follow them when they take Taylor. However, I think everyone should have a weapon. Just in case."
Ranger shouldered her longbow, "I have this."she said, nonchalantly.
Syca nodded. "And I, this."
She pulled out a modified Beretta from her knapsack. "Does everyone else have something?"
"Married to music - 'nuff said."

Taylor
" Is everyone ready?" Taylor asked. Taylor was terrified out of her mind. She was just ready for this to be over. Everyone said there goodbyes and went to their spots. Taylor went to the water fountian for a drink when she saw Lucas.
" Are you going to be ok?" Lucas asked.
" I don't know. I am putting my life in the hand of people I hardly know. I am worried. I just do not know what I did to deserve this." Taylor said.
" Everything will be ok. I promise. I know this is going to be hard. Trust me. We will not let anything bad happen to you." he said.
" Thank you." Taylor looked at her watch. 11:56 pm. " I should be going."
" I will see you soon." he said.
Taylor walked to her room. He stood in front of the door. Ok if it is the gut be flirty, if it is the girl scream for your life. Scream for the guy to. She thought. She walked it to the room( leaving the door open) and ran to the light switch. Right when she turned it on the door slamed shut.
" Nice to see you again." the man said.
" Oh the pleasue is mine. If I knew it was going to be you I would have dressed up." Taylor said with a little flirt.
" Aww how sweet. Well I will not see you much. I am just here to do the dirty work." he said.
" Ohh we see how that worked out last time. Wait you were the one that got hurt and you took the wrong person. Great job by the way." she said.
" I don't want to hear it. I will kill you right now." he screamed.
" Go ahead be loud. You would not want someone to hear would you?" Taylor said with a smile. The guy started to come at her. Taylor ran around the room. He ran her in to a corner. He threw her over his shoulder and ran out the door. When they got to the hallway Taylor began to through the beeds of her necklace on the floor to leave a trail. She saw Ranger and noded.

Evert few steps she waould drop a beed. They had been walking up the stairs for a long time. They cam to the top floor of the apartment complex. The man went into the room and dropped Taylor on the bed, and he left. Her back hurt. The leaned over and saw Toby. " Toby. Toby can you hear me?" but there was no answer. Toby was knocked out.

The guy had taken her. Sarah knew that that had been the plan, but it felt wrong for them to just let him carry Taylor away. What if he got away? Sarah couldn't help feeling nervous when they disappeared out the door, but she saw Ranger looking out and tried to calm herself down. Now all that remained was to follow the guy, find Toby and Taylor then call the police and it would be done, right?

I looked up and down Taylor's trail of beads, trying to force my thoughts into something coherent. Since when did helping out include letting the guy carry her off? "Um, guys?" I began. "I know we're kind of acting like we have a plan, but did we ever actually make a plan? Are we going to go after her, or not?"

"Well, we'll have to eventually," Ranger mused. "Where do you think we should begin?"

"The guy went up the stairs," I observed. "That's a start. And it was the same guy who took this Toby person, right?" Among all the talk about Toby, I had forgotten that I'd never actually met him.

"Right," Ranger replied. "But there are a couple ways we can go with this--we need to find Taylor and Toby, but we should probably also keep an eye on Ann."

"We should split up," I suggested. "There are five of us here, so two of us could follow Taylor, two could look for Ann, and one could look for the others and make sure they're okay."

"That's a good plan," I said. Not only could we get more done in less time, but by splitting up we'd make sure that we couldn't all be taken down at once. "I'll go after Taylor and Toby. Shouldn't we..." I sighed; I hated calling the police. They knew me, of course, and they always said I was just a wannabe cop. But we needed numbers, and I wasn't about to let pride get us killed. "Shouldn't we call the police? We're going to need more people involved if we're going to be safe. Plus, cops have access to more information."

"You didn't call the police when Toby was kidnapped?" Sarah asked. She couldn't believe that nobody had thought to call the police right away, but then again they were probably too excited to think straight. Sarah knew she probably would have been in that position. "Hey," she said, "if we are going to be looking for Toby, it would probably help if I knew what he looked like. I wasn't here before he was gone, and I missed any previous descriptions that may have been given."

The conversation makes this post really elongated - I'm putting it in a spoiler so you don't have to scroll through it constantly.

Ranger

I described what I remembered of Toby, since I hadn't seen much of him before he was kidnapped. "I'm going to call the police," I said, walking over to a phone, steeling myself. If the cops were going to make fun of me, let them do it to my face - or at least my ear.

"YWS police department. What is your emergency?"

"We've had a kidnapping - at least, that's what I suspect. It started out as either an assault or a kidnapping, but they took a friend of ours and nearly killed a few more of us."

"How did you escape?"

"I played dead and then hit a kidnapper in the head with a bat. Unfortunately he escaped, but they took another friend recently who they originally assaulted. I don't know what their motive is, but I suspect that the person in charge of this apartment complex is involved."

"Which apartment complex?"

"The Royal YWS Apartments."

For a moment there was silence. "I'm sorry, I don't understand."

"What don't you understand?"

"I'm afraid I don't know what apartment complex you're talking about."

"What do you mean, you don't understand what apartment complex I'm talking about? It's the talk of YWS, this massive complex that just opened!"

"Please calm down, ma'am."

"Don't call me ma'am, I'm half your age," I snapped. "Where do you think I'm calling from?"

"The database says that you are calling from a vacant block."

"A vacant bl-- vacant block, my rear! I'm standing in a hundred-story apartment! It's the talk of YWS!"

"We cannot go to a nonexistent area, ma'am."

"But it -- may I speak with someone else?"

"I'm sorry?"

"Give me the sheriff, or an officer, or somebody who gets out of the building and knows what I'm talking about."

There was a pause, and a male voice came on. "What is your emergency?"

"Is this an officer?" I demanded.

"This is an officer."

"Look, I'm standing here in an apartment where two people have been kidnapped in the last twelve hours or so, and apparently you can't help me because for some reason your data is screwed so that the Royal YWS Apartments don't exist."

"What is your full username?"

"Ranger51. I go by Ranger." I took in a breath - here it comes.

"Oh, the Ranger? I'm surprised you even considered calling us." His voice rang with sarcasm. Apparently all the police knew about me, that one kid who wasn't a cop but thought she was. I guess cops gossiped.

"I need backup, good sir cop," I snarled, "and whatever you think, I'm not stupid. You have databases and numbers - we don't. Now are you going to do your job or do I have to try to do it for you?"

"You can try, Ranger, but I don't see why you aren't in the police force if you want to be a cop so bad."

"As of now, I seem to be doing a better job at playing cop than you are at being a cop. Now, if you're finished trying to insult me like a kicked schoolboy, would you do your job and come down here?"

"Well, since you're so determined, I think I'll leave this to you, Sherlock." The line went dead.

I slammed the phone back down so hard that everyone jumped. "As usual," I snarled, "the cops are absolutely no help at all. Never mind the fact that we need backup and information - let the 'wannabe cop' handle it if she's so determined!" I snatched up my longbow and quiver. "I'm going after Taylor. Whoever wants to come, can." With that, I stormed out of the room.

Sorry for the way-too-long post, but it said the cops were supposed to be dodgy and I, um, kind of got carried away as well...

Sarah looked around the room and then walked out after Ranger. "Hey Ranger, I'm coming too," she said. They walked down the hall and then to the stairs, following the trail of beads.

"Okay, unless you find those guys, let's meet in the lobby in two hours," I called after Ranger and Sarah. "I'll go track down Ann. Come on, Lucas."

Lucas followed me to the elevator, and we rode down to the lobby. When the doors opened, I strode out purposefully--

I stopped short. The concierge desk was empty. Where was Ann?

"Hey Lucas," I said, turning around. "Where's Ann?"

And where, for that matter, was Lucas?

Lucas was gone.

I spun around in a circle, drawing my short sword. There was no one in the lobby, and judging from how clean it was, it had been empty for a while. "Okay, Lucas, this isn't funny," I said. Where could he have gone to?! He had been standing right behind me not thirty seconds ago! How could I have missed something like that?!

Unless...

I shook my head. This was getting weirder and weirder. I would have noticed someone snatch Lucas; I just didn't miss those things. This had been instantaneous--there one second, gone the next.

I shook my head again. The sooner I found Ann, the better.

"Hey, Ranger, I'm coming too!" called Sarah, following. I stopped to let her catch up. Running off without waiting for the others. Stupid. Still, I wanted to do something. I wanted to run or search or shoot until the cops were out of my head.

"Let's go, then," I said, trying to calm myself down. I pulled an arrow from my quiver, putting it on the string so I could shoot quickly if I had to.

The beads kept leading up... and up... and up. This was like a video game - the halls were dim and dark and empty, and the trail kept winding on, no end in sight. I half-expected a monster to jump out. I dimly wondered what floor we were on when I thought I heard something.

"Did you hear that?" I whispered without turning - I didn't want to tip any follower off that I heard them.
