Charles "Charlie Daniels" Firestone

The next round of training was more like torture. I was too mentally scarred at having to deal with electric eels. It wasn't the sight of them that bothered me, it was the feeling of their pencil-thin bodies on my skin and hostile bite if they were hostile enough. Twice I catapulted in a tank of electric eels and those times I went dragon against my will. To me, this kind of training was more of a test of willpower. When I was told to go dragon to fly up a pole and grab a flag, I froze in my place. The instructor must've noticed this. "Firestone, what are you waiting for? Start flying!"
I shook my head. "I can't fly. I don't even know how." I just stood there in front of the pole, staring up at the top of the pole.

I giggled as the dragon boy - Charlie - underwent the horrible tests that equally horrible Miss Wirestone had designed, feet swinging from the bleachers.
I waved as his head turned slightly.
"Later," I mouthed.

Zoey

I see Charles try and get the flag, I stay in my place, swallowing.

"Zoey, Can you fly?" Ms. Wirestone asks.

I swallow, "Yeah but--"

"Go." She inturupts me.

"Why can't I just climb it? Upper body strength?" I ask, sighing.

"If you want. But you could hurt yourself." She looks back at her clipboard.

I mouth her words over mockingly with a smirk and walk to the poll. I pull myself up, inch by inch.

I reach up when I'm far enough and snatch it, dropping myself, "Here." I grinned.

Miss Wirestone

Firestone stood with his head tilted back, mouth hanging open as he tried to take in the top of the pole with the girl on top of it. She slid gracefully down and landed with barely a stumble. Miss Wirestone smiled and made a distinctive check mark on her clipboard.
"Thank you, Marsh. Neatly done."
Then, turning to Firestone, "Well, if you can't fly, you have to climb it," she smirked. The boy gave her an incredulous look. "Go on," she added. "We don't have all day."

Firestone's wings drooped uselessly—excess weight which he ought to have eliminated long ago. She made a note on the clipboard and watched him lose his grip and slide down the pole several times. His torn shirt was soaked with sweat and water and he gasped for breath. She spotted tremors running through his arms.

"I'm done," he panted. "It's impossible." He tried to stalk away, but Miss Wirestone blocked him.
"No," Miss Wirestone growled, nose to nose with the dragon. "I say when it is impossible. Use your surrounds. Improvise."
The boy looked around him, wringing his shirt between his hands in rage and frustration. Then it dawned on him and he ripped the ruined cloth from his body. Twisting it into a rope, he used it to start to lever his heavy body up the pole.

I climbed up with my makeshift rope, grabbed the flag, and climbed back down. I was still mad at the instructor for making me do something I wasn't good at. I glared at the instructor with my tail swinging behind me as I sulked to the others. I murmured, "She could've took it easy on me. It's not my fault I've lived my life with my feet on the ground. Nobody hasn't even bothered teaching me how to fly first. It's in my application that I don't really know how to fly. Why didn't someone teach me how to fly first before putting me through this torture? If there's one thing I hate about this school right now, it's that meanie of an instructor who doesn't know how to read student applications before doing a lesson." I put my makeshift rope over my shoulders, forcing my wings and tail to sink back into my body.

I observe Miss Wirestone place a horrible rope-like contraption on Charlie's back, and something inside of me snapped. It was cruel to treat a dragon like that. If it were me, I'd have already torched the place to the ground... the flames would have cast a lovely color. I hadn't brunt anything in ages... I was probably getting rusty.
I stood up and strode to Miss Wirestone, drumming a beat against my bare thighs.
"What is it?" She snapped, still looking at the Daniels boy.
"Enough with that," I said, coldly.
Miss Wirestone looked around, probably surprised at how I sounded.
"I'll be teaching the Daniels boy from now on. That's no way to treat a dragon."

I looked at Lilith and Ms. Wirestone who were arguing about who should teach Charles. "Go on Antonina." Ms. Wirestone said gesturing angrily. I looked at my wing which was still healing. I wondered if I could fly. I jumped but I didn't come down instead I flied up and grabbed the flag. I felt my wing tear slightly but I grabbed onto the pole and climbed the rest of the way down. I sat down on the ground and looked at my wing. It was torn a bit more and still bleeding silver. I concentrated on healing it listening to the argument between Lilith and Ms. Wirestone while Charles was still trying to catch his breath. "Here's to your perfect weapon, cracked bones with blind aggression, like birds whose wings are broken, you live without direction." I sang quietly.
"You are without a doubt, the worst pirate I've ever heard of."

"But you have heard of me."

With two instructors arguing over me, I took advantage of it as a chance to get away. I had enough torture to scar me for life. As I hid in a tree, I sighed while letting my left foot dangle. "All that crazy bloody witch could've done was read my application and put me in a flight class so I could learn how to fly instead of putting me through torture. It's written in bold red letters that I don't know how to fly. I have wings, but can't fly. Why didn't she read those bold red letters?" I looked at my claws. It was easy to use them when climbing just for an escape, not for all that torment that I was put through.

I grabbed Miss Wirestone's arm as she started towards the Daniels boy.
"Let him be," I said. "He has enough on his mind. Dragons are prideful beings, so he must be feeling wounded at what I'm sure he'd call torture. I know I would."
Miss Wirestone grinned sarcastically. "You'd know," she spat.
I smiled, my teeth turning to fangs and my fingers curling into claws.
"But Miss Wirestone, you forget, I am a demon first and foremost." With that, I turned and skipped towards where I sensed the Daniels boy to be, leaving behind a flummoxed Miss Wirestone.
I found the Daniels boy up a tree, glowering. I placed my hands on my hips and tilted back to look up at him.
"Come down, Daniels," I soothed.
The Daniels boy ignored me.
I pouted, doing my best to look cute. He was a male dragon, after all. "Please, for me," I cooed, soothingly. "I promise I won't let Miss Wirestone do something like that to you again"

I had arrived to Mrs. Wirestones class late. As I entered through the door, I felt her sharp gaze land on me. Chills went up my spine as she started to walk toward me. Instint told me to run, but my head told me wait. Good thing my head won out.

"Where were you?" She hissed at me. Tapping her pen against her clip-bored in a obviously irritated manor.

"I got lost." I stated as simply and non-confrontational as I could.

"Not an excuse." She spat at me while she walked away, making notes on her clip-bored. I stood there for a second, unsure of what she wanted me to do. Realizing that I was not following me, she turned around. "Come." I hesitated, but eventually my feet started moving toward her.

I looked down. "She better. She should've at least given me some sympathy when I told her I couldn't fly because I didn't know how. It was written in red letters in my application that I didn't know how to fly." Using my claws, I climbed down. "Someone needs to get that tight-knotted witch to loosen up and show some sympathy for those who have a problem." I forced my claws back. "The least she could've done was give me encouragement instead of yelling at me and being a big meanie about me not knowing how to fly. I grew up as a human, so my feet's been on the ground for as long as I can remember."

"Of course," I said, taking the Daniels boy by the arm and steering him toward's the master's office. Up close, he was attractive, in a naive sort of way. "Unfortunately, the headmaster feels she does her job well. But don't fret, Charlie, I'll teach you from now on."

I shivered at the sight of the headmaster's office door. What have I ever done to deserve being sent to the headmaster's office? I forced myself to calm down. Surely this strange dragoness meant well. It wasn't my fault I broke when Wirestone wouldn't take it easy on me since I was raised with my feet on the ground. My mother made it clear in solid red ink that I needed someone to teach me how to fly first. I was supposed to be taught how to fly first thing I get to the academy. I sat down in a chair and waited.

"Ah," I boomed, as Lilith showed Daniels into my office. Strangely, she remained close by him, instead of going to me. No matter. If she developed an affection towards the boy, I could exploit that. "Firestone. Don't worry, you are in no trouble. Lilith here was simply concerned about your welfare." I laced my fingers together and leaned forward. "Are you all right, Firestone?"

Miss Wirestone

Miss Wirestone fumed silently in the background as Lilith virtually kidnapped her student. Her pen tapped furiously on the clipboard. She finished her assessments and the bell rang.

"Class dismissed," she snapped. "Your assessment papers will be in the common room by midday." With that she stalked off. Several battered and bruised students made rude gestures or pulled faces at her back. She turned suddenly. "And Dragonis must see me after lunch for his lesson." She shot a poisonous glance at those students who looked guilty. "Tidy up before your next lesson—you look somewhat dishevelled."

Something would have to be done about Lilith's antics. She could not rely on the headmaster for support there, so she would have to resort to tactics. And she was good at tactics. Oh yes.
