Allan

"No...It's not that," I say, not wanting him to apologize. "It's them. I would have had these thoughts sooner or later. I'd rather get them over with now than have to wake up months later with them."

Fidelis

I looked at him face to face, confused. "What do you want me to do? I'll listen. Just tell me what you want me to do and I'll do it. If it involves feeding from a woman, that I will not do because of my diet."

Allan

What I wanted?

"I-I don't want to leave...you," I say. "I don't want to."

Fidelis

I pulled him towards me and set him on my lap. "You won't leave me, dear heart. We were meant to remain together. We've been tested and might still be tested over again, but there's no possible way I would let you go or have you leave me. It would murder me inside the most if I let you go, which I won't allow because I need you to keep me alive and away from being alone. We've managed this far together, we could go even more further against all odds." I held him in my arms, still keeping him on my lap. "Who else would keep me alive if I let you go?"

Allan

I smile and lean into him, liking the warmth coming from his arms around me.

"Then I'm fine," I whisper.

Fidelis

I held him in my arms, giving him comfort and offering a sanctuary within my embrace. I had no intention to let him go or have him leave me. I'd die without him and he knew that. We needed each other, whether many have said so or not. The sound of his heart was so steady, it was like a lullaby. I was just sitting there half asleep when Silver ran in, jolting me away.
Silver tripped on her own stepping and fell on her hands. "Boys, we got company. Allan's folks are heading this way. Before you panic, there's not a single cop around the place."
I swallowed hard and lowered my voice. "Good gods, why did you have to put me through this? Haven't I been through enough torment already?"
Silver got back on her feet and hid in a closet. "You're on your own, boys. I am not getting involved in this and you can't make me."
I looked at Allan. "If Silver ever was a snake charmer, she'd be dead seconds from now."

Allan

My parents... I look at Fidelis and am very tempted to hide as Silver did, not ready to face them again. I really don't want them to see this place. It's too sacred in my mind, even if it doesn't mean the same to anyone else. I lean deeper into him, reaching for his hand, and wait for him to say what to do.

Fidelis

I took his hand. "I know you don't want them in here, so we'll go to Silver's apartment and face them there."
Silver pounded the closet door. "Have you spewed milk out of your coconut?! I am not getting involved! I don't want them to get me involved in their problems! You're on your own, boys!"
I took Allan to Silver's apartment and set him on the couch. "If you want to back me up, you do it each chance you get." I sat down at the table and waited for his parents to show up. My own apartment was a sanctuary for the both of us, so I have to go to Silver's to protect our sanctuary.

Allan

Fidelis takes me to Silver's apartment against her wishes and we wait. I assume he feels the same way about his apartment as I do, that they don't deserve to set foot in it, that they aren't worthy, and that's why we're here, but I don't dare to prove those assumptions right, not trusting my voice at that time.

Fidelis

I could hear two hearts heading towards the door of Silver's apartment. "Here they come." I stayed seated at the table with my hands on my lap. I was a little nervous inside about confornting his parents, but I knew I had to do it. I made myself look calm and waited as the door opened, giving way for Allan's parents.

Allan

I don't know what else to do. I sit beside Fidelis as the door opens, not too close but close enough to calm me a little. My parents walk in and I inwardly groan, standing for them to bear hug me. The contact bothers me and no longer feels right. I don't hug back, glancing at Fidelis.

Fidelis

I watched them embrace him, aching inside at the memory of being embraced by my own parents for the last time. Regardless, I held a calm face. "I know you've heard his side of the story of why he was with me, so it's only fair if you heard my side as well. That is, of course, if you allow me at least two hours of your time. I have no intention to harm anyone. You have my word as a man of kindness."

Allan

They let me go and I resist the urge to climb into Fidelis' lap like a frightened child and have him hold me. Their eyes set on him as he speaks, judgmental and cold, and I decide to sit back down. Nothing is spoken from them, which I hope means they'll listen.

Fidelis

I didn't hesitate to talk, keeping my composure as I calmly looked at them in the eye and passed their cold expressions. "True that I have broken him free from a kidnapping, but I had to kill the ones who stole him so they wouldn't come after me as well. There was two of such captors that hurt him. I didn't want him to suffer any pain, so I killed his captors and buried their bodies for a good measure. I took him home with me to protect him in case his captors had friends in town. During his stay in my residence, I made sure he stayed in proper health. I felt like I was doing you a favor by protecting him and nurturing him in case you needed him in full health. When I took a walk with him the other night, I wanted to give him a chance to be sure it was safe. If it means anything to you now, I give you my deepest apologies for causing this much trouble to you." I kept my eyes on them through all this, not making any movements that indicate I was lying.

Allan

Fidelis backs up the lie I told before and I watch their expressions as he does. They don't relax or show any signs of buying it.

"Then why did you take him again?" My father asks him. "Fake his death?"
