I heard a knock at the door. After setting Allan on the couch, I went to the kitchen and grabbed a knife in case it was the Bloodlust Twins. I stood close to the door against the wall. "Who is it?"
"It's Silver, Prince Fidelis."
I relaxed and let her in. "You make me tense when you knock on the door, Silver."
She poured some juice in a glass. "Sorry. I keep on getting messages from my rich clients and really need a vacation from all the stress. I can't stand them at all. They keep asking me for an investigation and offered a large sum of money in reward for bringing their son back, but I've had it up to my forehead with them. They're driving me so crazy, somebody shoot me."
I sat down next to Allan. "Your clients just don't know when to quit, do they?"
Silver nodded. "They're just as hardheaded as you are, Prince Fidelis. It's like they'll quit when they're dead."
I rolled my eyes. I hated it when Silver said that.

Silver comes back and jokes around with Fidelis, who sits back down beside me. I wonder if he knows that she speaks of my parents... Who else in this city has a missing son and the money enough to offer such a reward?

I kept my eyes on Silver. "If you want somebody to shoot you, I think that could be arranged."
Silver glared at me. "You don't even know how to fire a peashooter at close range. When it comes to shooting ammo, you're a lousy shot."
I blinked. "You knew about that?"
Silver nodded with a grin. "You forgot. I know about your history and you didn't even have to tell me about it. The Queen knows the history of every vampire in the world, so you got nothing to hide around her."
I raised my brow. "Her offer to me still stands, doesn't it?"
Silver nodded again. "She knows you'll kindly refuse the offer of being the vampire King, but she still offers in case you change your mind."
"If I wanted to be King, I rather reign in my original homeland."
Silver chuckled. "Never heard you say that before." She looked at Allan. "How are you, Allan?"

I nod at Silver, not wanting to be rude but not wanting to speak either, and then look down, pretending to be interested in the bottom of my shirt.

I put my hand on Allan's shoulder. "You don't have to talk to her if you don't want to."
Silver sighed after a ringing sounded. She answered it. "Hello. No, ma'am. I told you and your husband that I don't do investigations anymore. I know you miss your son, but I'm in no mood for missing child services. Besides, the kid's eighteen years old. He's a man now. Just quit trying to bribe me into changing my mind. I'm a lawyer, florist, and part-time substitute professor. Not a private investigator." She slammed the strange thing shut and stored it in her pocket. "My clients. AKA, your slave's parents. If they bug me one more time, I'm changing my cell phone number."
I rolled my eyes again. "Still worried about Allan?"
Silver nodded. "As much as I like their big payments, I don't work as a private investigator. Private investigators don't get paid much these days."
Look down and show some mercy if you can.

Fidelis sets his hand on my shoulder as he converses with Silver. She complains of working for my parents and I feel a little guilty, which makes me uncomfortable. As much as I love it here and hate it there, do they deserve to suffer?

I check the clock. The night was fading fast. I got on my feet and took Allan to my room. I laid down in bed with him, holding him in my arms. "Let's sleep on it. I can tell by your face that you miss your parents and didn't want them to suffer like this. If you want to and if that's your choice, we'll pay your parents a visit. Silver will come with us to keep your father from sending me to prison. I'll behave myself around your parents. I promise. We'll go tomorrow night, but that's only if you choose to. Out of my own selfless being, I'll let you decide." I held him close as I fell asleep.

He carries me back to the bed and lays at my side, leaving the decision up to me. Due to that, I'm unable to sleep as he does, just laying in his arms. Mixed feelings surface and make the decision ten times harder than it should be. I look at him and come to a conclusion.

I slept until the sun went down, then rose from my sleep to find Allan slightly tired. Almost like he lost a few minutes of sleep. I fed from his wrist to have my fill for the evening. Once I was done, I got out of bed and suddenly smelled the scent of strong coffee. I went to the kitchen with Allan on my heels only to find Silver still around. "You stayed here. Why?"
Silver took a sip from her black mug. "Thought maybe sleeping over for a change. Sleeping on the couch was better than sleeping on the floor. A little pain in the neck waking up with a stiff back, but it was worth the trouble." She looked at Allan. "Want some java? It's a little strong, but it's how I like it. Coffee that's got the extra oomph. Better than a rooster crowing, if you ask me."

Fidelis wakes and feeds. He stands and leads me into the kitchen to find Silver still here. He speaks with her a while before she asks me if I want a cup of coffee. I politely decline and awkwardly look away.

I raised my brow as I looked at Allan. "What's wrong, dear heart? You look a little tired, almost like you lost some sleep. Is something on your mind?"

I glance up at Silver and then at Fidelis, shaking my head. Though he trusts her, I don't feel like speaking in front of her, especially about what's running through my mind. It's rude and a little mean on my part, but I can't help my insecurities.

Silver finished her coffee and headed towards the door. "I have to hitail it to my apartment and hit the books. The Queen's gonna need me determine the fate of a guilty vampire. Don't ask me why." She left without another word.
I took a seat at the table and set Allan beside me. "Is something on your mind, dear heart? You're being awfully quiet at this time. I know you don't talk much, but you're starting to worry me."

Silver leaves and Fidelis sits at the table, setting me beside him and expressing his worry.

"I..." I'm not sure how to word it. "I'm just thinking. About a lot of stuff. I don't know why though."

I took his hand in both of mine. "I suppose it's because I wanted to make peace with your parents. I put too much pressure on you." I bowed my head with my eyes closed. "I'm very sorry, Allan. I didn't mean to put that much pressure on you. I never should've thought of making peace with your parents. I'm very sorry I put you through that."
