The woman leaves and Fidelis hints that I have an unpleasant scent to me. Flashing a smile, I nod and part from him, going to bathe. After I believe I washed the smell off of me, I dry myself off and change. When I am finished, I head back out to him and hope he approves.

I took him in my arms and sat down on the couch. I let him sit there on my lap as I held him. "Well, the truth is out on me. Silver called me Prince Fidelis because that's what I used to be before I was made a vampire. I was the eldest of four children- one son and three daughters. My parents were Pharaoh and Queen back in the days of my mortality. Although being heir to the throne, I didn't want to become the next king. Deep down, I dreamed of being a potter, since I had a gift in pottery. I still do, but I haven't done any pottery lately."

Prince Fidelis... I could see that. And a potter... I could see that as well.

"M-maybe you should start it again," I say, looking up at him, "M-maybe you could teach me."

I set him on his feet and let him to a closed room that I once told him not to go in. I showed him all the pots and vases I've been creating both before and after I found him. "Because most vampires are supposedly solitary creatures, I've been keeping in touch with my gift of pottery. I stopped making pottery after the first month you were with me." I sat down, placed some wet clay on the wheel, and spun the wheel while keeping my hands on the clay. "The secret to pottery is the use of the hands. It takes a steady pair of hands to make all the vases and pots you see in here. Because your hands control the clay itself, your hands can shape it in any way you want." I formed a small flower pot from the clay and placed it in the kiln to be fyred. "It's all about the hands, Allan. That's all it takes."

Fidelis shows me into his pottery room and makes a vase as he speaks. When he's finished, I walk to his side and look around, wondering if he'd let me try.

The expression of curiousity was written on Allan's face. I got on my feet and went to find another potter wheel. Once that was accomplished, I set a handful of clay on the wheel and a stool by it. "Let's see if you have the same gift as I do. I don't care if you're not very good. Sometimes it takes a little practice." I returned to my own wheel and began working with a larger lump of clay. "Trick is to start small, then do larger things as you progress. Trust me. That's how I managed this far without losing my touch."

He leaves me with another potter wheel with clay atop it and I sit down, setting my hands on either side like he had. I begin the wheel and try not to screw up.

I watched him attempt his chance at working with clay. "It doesn't have to be right the first time. Even if you make a mistake, you could try again and keep trying until you get it right. Wet clay is easy to shape, but dried clay is the final decision. You have to be sure the clay is wet so you could shape it into whatever you want to make it. Wet enough to shape, but not too wet to turn into mud." I played with my clay for a while and turned it into a large pot.

I nod at his words and try to concentrate. As he finishes what appears to be a pot, my creation turns out to be some sort of vase. The top is lopsided and the body is uneven. Frowning, I glance at him.

I chuckled. "You'll get the gist of it. It just takes a little practice. Nobody's perfect, as they all say. In fact, I myself mess up on my pottery from time to time, but I learn from my mistakes." I put the pot in the kiln, then put a small lump of clay on my wheel. "Besides, I never got it right the first time either. I kept trying and got better with all the practice I put myself through. No doubt you'll be getting the gist of the potter's trade. I've been a master of the potter's trade for three millenia, so I've been keeping myself busy during my spare time. Believe it or not, I often visited exibits during the night hours and admire the surviving pieces of my work. I always knew which piece of pottery was from my hands."

I nod and watch him before attempting to fix my creation. The clay feels weird in between my fingers as I go. I glance at him every so often to be sure I'm doing things right.

I took my time to make a bowl, watching Allan try to fix his own creation. "It's strange when working with clay at first, but it gets better once you're used to it." I crushed the clay bowl mercilessly and added a fresh lump in it. I played with it in my hands for a while, then began shaping it on the wheel. After a while, I made a vase that was shaped as an hourglass. "A potter is a clay artist. It's all about creativity."

I look at him as he speaks, wondering why he destroyed his work and began again. Nodding, I focus back on the piece in front of me, somewhat satisfied with how it looks.

I looked at the clock on the wall. Sunrise was an hour away. I set the vase in the kiln and cleansed my hands of the clay. "My bedtime is an hour away, but you can stay here and practice your pottery skills if you like. If you wish to join me in my sleep, just cleanse your hands of the clay and come to my room." I went to bed and fell asleep quickly, feeling at peace that I still get to keep Allan.
