Jace swallows, his mouth burning with bile and his eyes locked on his brother's unmoving body, and drops to his knees, still holding onto Rayah. He hears bits and pieces of what Spinx is saying, but his head is spinning. His brother... He can't believe his brother is gone.

Jace's spirits lift as he sees his brother awaken. Nic's eyes open and he moans, rolling off of his side. Two holes are spread across his chest, slowly piecing back together. He scrambles to his brother, who hugs him with one arm, afraid to let go of Rayah but wanting to make sure his brother was real. Then his eyes set back on Spinx and he can only wish this was a dream. She says something, Jace isn't able to understand yet, and he looks at his girlfriend.

Jace couldn't breathe. As if his intoxication isn't enough, Spinx's fingers around his neck is the killer. Nic breaks free and tries to help his brother, kicking Spinx in the stomach.
