Grey Loraine (Rain) Sanders
My hands move back and forth in front of me, sweeping the air. Thick currents of wind gather together, following and obeying each slight movement I make. I will them to brush a strand of my blond hair out of my face, then I ball my hands into a tight fist and allow my winds to disperse. Being a weather elemental has its cool advantages.
I slowly shift from a sitting position to a standing one on the front porch of my family's cottage-style home. Sucking in a deep breath, I can sense everything around me: The trees slowly dancing with a few of my loose winds, soft rain falling to the earth somewhere in the distance, and even the bright colored flowers surrounding our cottage bobbing their heads to a tune only they hear.
Still squeezing my eyes shut, I command my listening winds to fly quickly away over the mountain tops surrounding our little town of Nowhere. I hope maybe this time they'll bring back some useful information about the world beyond ours that still remains a mystery.
My family has been here longer than all fourteen years of my life and only now have some of the townspeople realized that the tall mountain range is a set of walls built by who knows what.
In a matter of moments my hearing winds return, whispering back to me what they have listened to. I only receive bits and pieces of conversations or sounds, so
I make my best guess as to what others are saying.
"Got there... camera! Mountains... while flying... Renn! Watch it, Raina... Beware!"
My eyes snap open, attempting to put the puzzle of words together. So far I've concluded that Renn has found some sort of camera. (And as usual there is nothing
from beyond the barriers) I'm not quite sure what all of it means, so I decide to find out.
Dragging a small, low-hanging cloud down from the sky, I force it to surround me and harden with frozen rain water. Now I'm basically seated on a solid cloud which is hovering inches from the ground, being held aloft by my upward winds. I command my smallest hurricane currents of air to push me forward. The hardened
cloud is raised a few feet more before being swept away with me to find my friends. I call this "cloud surfing".
My legs hang over the side of the cloud while my hands and arms are controlling the movements and speed of it. In a matter of moments after zipping by a few more houses, bushes and shrubs and a small hill, I find some of my friends in a tight huddle inside of a grove of trees. I disperse my hurricane winds and replace them with a soft breeze to help me land the cloud near my friends. When my feet are reunited with solid ground, I turn the cloud back into its gaseous state before facing the group beaming a warm smile. "So, Renn I heard you've found something cool, right?" I question strolling up to stand next to Jewel.
"You're just in time, Grey," Renn informs me with a mischevious smirk.
