Hey kitty, I've been having internet problems all week and I just found out I'm going to be gone for the next week. So if you would like to take me out of the staff team that would be great.
They'll still be counted as a participant, unless they have a valid reason for dropping out, such as Calligraphy's. Why not try to contact them with a friendly reminder about the contest? It could just be that they've forgotten!
