Fiction Crew JANUARY Workshop

Hello all! As we know, because of the site shutdown/renovation our wonderful December Workshop was cancelled. But never fear! The workshop has been rescheduled for Saturday, January 7th, 2012. It will be held at the same time: 21.00/9 pm GMT. Here is a helpful converter to tell you when that is in your own world.

Whether you're snuggled up in bed waiting for sleigh bells to ring or somewhere in the sweltering Southern Hemisphere hating all these mentions of snow, or somewhere in the middle where the sky is a permanent shade of grey, there's no doubt about it- the holiday season is just around the corner.

What is it about this time of year that makes us want to celebrate? Who knows?! But the Fiction Crew have decided to take full advantage of the season. This month, our workshop will focus on the theme of "winter festivals." Are you a science fiction or fantasy writer? Does the world you're moulding have an equivalent to Christmas or Hannukah or Flying-Pancake Day?

We'll be taking this chance to discuss the origins of winter celebrations, touching on the themes of religion and tradition in your worlds, and having a chat about world-building techniques, and thinking what might happen in your world in the darkest days of the year.

And if you're not a fantasy/sci-fi kind of person, no worries! The second half of the workshop will focus on how exactly the annual celebration-whether real or imaginary- has impacted your main character, with a short writing segment and discussion of one another's writing at the end.

Oh, and the best bit? I am co-hosting this with the fantastic Lauren2010! How can you resist a chance to spend time with Lauren? I know I certainly couldn't!

So come along and get in the spirit- and more importantly, let your characters get in the spirit! Just because they're made of paper doesn't mean they should miss out on all the winter-solstice fun!

Oh. Hallelujah! I didn't miss it after all!

A quick update:

This workshop is likely to be rescheduled for sometime in January to accommodate for time spent with family and friends, and not on the internet, during the holidays. Keep an eye out for more info on that, as well as other workshops that may be coming next month.

Yay! I was worried I had missed this, so I'm looking forward to a reschedule.
