Jen
Day 2 (cont.)

Art was right after lunch. Jen was in advanced painting and sculpting, with Briar and Mia. They all sat together at a table in the back and talked until the teacher strode into the room. Apparently, Briar and Mia were going to go visit Sophie after school. Jen still didn't know Sophie very well, so she wasn't all that offended at not being invited.

When Mrs. Vaughn came into the room, everyone's eyes kind of snapped up in unison. She was a peculiarly dressed person and had that odd nutso quality that all art teachers seemed to have. Her frizzy red hair was down, held back somewhat by a headband. Colorful paint pallete earrings hung from pale lobes, and she wore a flowery muu muu. Mia giggled. Jen and Briar shared a look. How much weed did this chick have to smoke not to know how ridiculuos she looked?

"Today, we will be starting our first painting. But first, I want you all to close your eyes."

The girls shared a look before closing their eyes. The art teacher's voice echoed off the walls. "I want you to think of one person and one person only, that one single person who you look up to most. Think of the lines which etch their face and the sparkles in their eyes. Think of their normal expressions. Do they smirk? Are they frowners? Maybe their mouth remains indifferent, but their eyes seem to smile, with dimples in their cheeks... Now open your eyes and paint."

Everyone was in motion. They got their canvases and plastic palettes and brushes and paints. Jen didn't know who Briar was going to paint. She wasn't sure about Mia either. Maybe Eben? But she knew who she was going to paint. Kat. She'd just moved away, but they used to joke that they had lesbian crushes on each other. Kat had everything Jen didn't. She was smarter and mature and responsible. Jen was just good with kids and a decent painter. She sighed.

"Are you gonna be painting Christian?" asked Briar. She and Mia giggled. Jen blushed.

But soon everyone was serious, enveloped in their soft brushstrokes and expressive lines.

Chelsea

After her math class that seemed to take forever, Chelsea had to go to the video club. It was mostly nerds and video fanatics but she didn't mind. Today, they were supposed to video announce the events that are going on this week and the next. It was supposed to look like the news on tv but for school and not about war and death. Chelsea was co-ancher. She sat next to Linda, The over achiever who wants to run for sophmore president. The room was bright because of the sun. Video equipment was ever where: on the desks, the chairs, the window sill, and even on the floor. Chelsea needed to have a talk with the members but first the "news". She looked at herself on her cellphone. What looked back at her was a sad, puffy-eyed girl. She looked like she was in her thirtes. That's what smoking did to you. They were going live in 5 minutes. She quickly applied blush on her skin, mascara and some eye shadow to cover the puffiness. A guy with glasses said, "We go live in 5,4,3,2.." He was behind the camera. "Cue music and dim the lights."

"Good afternoon, fellow classmates." Linda greeted. "Yes, Good afternoon." Chelsea said with a plastered smile on her face. Chelsea goes on,"Today, sign up sheets for the winter talent show will be on Mrs. Burns' door. So go hurry up and sign up. Space is limited. And the weather..."

"So for today at 3, sign up sheet will be out for class president." Linda interrupted Chelsea. She looked at Linda like she want to punch her but she repressed the urge. "So for today's gossip, A girl and a guy were seen fighting outside of Bon Cafe. Isn't that were you work Chelsea?" Linda said with a wide smile on her face. The members looked confused. They thought they told Linda not to bring that subject up or even say it on live school news. Chelsea had enough of her. "You know what Linda?" Chelsea started to get up from her rolling chair. "I had enough of your bull...." One of the members, Steve, turned off the microphone and the sound. Chelsea launched for Linda. They both fell down on the floor while the members tried to pull them off of each other. The cameraman shut down the live tv broadcast.

Chelsea was strangling Linda. She knew everyone was yelling at her to stop and people were trying to pull her off of Linda but she didn't listen of feel them. She was so focused on beating the crap out of her. How dare she tell people were she worked and more importantly, how dare she tell people what happened outside the cafe. Chelsea was determined to show Linda a thing or two about respect when biology teacher who ran the club busted in and picked Chelsea up. The other members pulled her arms and hands away from Linda's neck. "What the hell? Chelsea, Linda...."

Holly
Day two

I walk into the school with my head held low .... don't want to cause any attention .... not now anyway ... Not now that I've bunked the first day and barely made it here now!
I carry on walking , so far staring at my new black and white striped converse has been very interesting , well more interesting then looking at the happy people who are running around laughing and chatting to thier friends in a stupid childish manner .

I look up just for one second to check whether I'm going in the right direction but all I see is this boy staring right back at me..... At first I shake my head and look back down but then I notice that there is something much much diferent about this boy.....

I look again to see the crowd thats standing near him .... must be popular kid ..... don't even try holly I think to myself....

I hear someone shout his name "Hey collin!" ..... Hmmmm.... Nice name I suppose ...
But for a girl like me .... a depressed emo girl like me ..... its a waste of much needed breath .

Collin Green
Day 2

Collin had independent study music right after lunch. There were only a few other people with an independent music study. Collin counted seven of them, excluding himself. There was an emo chick whose name he didn't know. Skye Waterman, the hot girl he remembered seeing in the talent show playing guitar the year before, was on a piano. Reilly from soccer was there for guitar. A smart chick named Ryn, too, playing scales on a keyboard. The other three freshman he'd never met before. Collin walked over to where Skye was playing the piano.

Her skinny fingers moved gracefully across the black and white keys and danced a little in time with the cheerful, bouncy tune. She looked up at Collin and gave a shy smile.

"Did you write it?" he asked, scanning the room for the teacher. Mr. Hopkins was a grumpy old guy, and Collin knew that they were going to end up at each other's throats.

"Nah," she said. "I could never write anything this cheerful."

"Me neither," said Collin. "I like to think my songs are badass."

Skye arched a brow. "Badass, huh?"

"Oh yeah," Collin said, forcing the muscles in his face to be serious for a second. " I once wrote one called 'Butterfly Wonderland'. Crazy shit, if I do say so myself."

Skye laughed.

At just that moment, Mr. Hopkins hustled in. He was a chunky short guy with a big yellowish gray mustache and light blue eyes that fixed upon everyone with a hard expression. Today he was wearing a short-sleeved green button-down and tie with music notes on it. His leather shoes were shimmering like the reflected light on the top of a swimming pool. Collin felt his heart close, slowly moving away from Skye and toward another piano.

"Get to work, everyone," Mr. Hopkins said. His voice was smooth like a syrupy stack of pancakes, which was surprising with a person of his strict personality. "I expect a rough draft for an instrumental composition by the end of the month. It comes faster than you'd think. And don't start without a few scales! There are n shortcuts in my room!"

"I thought this was supposed to be an INDEPENDENT study," Collin muttered to himself a little bit too loudly.

"What was that, Mr. Green?"

"I was just saying," he blurted out impulsively, "That this study doesn't seem so independent." He saw a few of the seniors smirk in approval. Skye rolled her eyes and looked at a paper full of scales. But soon Mr. Hopkins commanded even her annoyed attention.

"I've heard all about you," said Mr. Hopkins, slowly traversing the ground between them. He seemed to be enjoying himself. "Collin Green." He spat his name mockingly. "Some sort of prodegy, eh? Who are you trying to impress here? Why don't you stop with the sarcasm and do your work?"

Collin felt anger surged through him. A voice in his head asked him who he was trying to impressed. The subliminal answer came in the form of his father's face, memorized well from a tattered lone picture Collin kept in his bedroom. Maybe his dad would see him in concert one day. He put headphones in his ears to tune out the rest of the lecture. He'd heard it countless times already.

Collin's mood was improved in math class. Some chicks got in a fight on school TV. But there it was, the gaping hole in his heart, which he tried to fill with music. It just wouldn't close. At least he could fill it with that party tonight...

Logan Warner
Day 2

I stayed home from school. Coincidentally, it had nothing to do with what happened last night. Actually, it was about who was waiting for me when I got home. There was Patrick, bald-headed and black as ever. They'd granted him two weeks off duty to come home and visit after basic training. He wasn't quite national guard yet. Mom and Dad said it was okay for me and Nicole to stay home for today but we couldn't stay home the whole two weeks. So we all kind of had a family day.

I knocked on Pat's door this morning. He was sprawled across his bead, Snowball and Whiskers purring and nuzzling up against him. "I've missed these little guys."

"And your awesome brother?" I asked.

"Don't have one," he replied, grinning.

I stepped forward. "Talkin' big now that you're an army guy?"

"National Guard," he said, getting up. "What's going on, Lo?

"I need some advice."

"Playboy's better than Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Edition, but the real thing's best."

"Abstinence! And no, that's not what I need to ask you."

Pat was grinning. "What?"

What do you do if someone you know but not very well is getting beat up by her boyfriend? "How do I impress Ryn Angeli?"

"Well," Pat said thoughtfully. "Depends on what she's like. Is she a cheerleader? Blonde?"

"No but she's smart and awesome and really hot."

"Then pretend to be smart and awesome and really hot."

"Big help."

I pretended that wooing Ryn was something I was worried about, not saving Sophie.

Briar Leeson

Briar stared at the canvas infront of her. She picked up a pencil and started to lightly sketch a head shape...but stopped half way though. She scrunched her eyes as if she couldn't see the canvas, but in reality what she couldn't see was the face she wanted to paint: her father's.

After he died, she could see his face plain as day every time she closed her eyes--the shape of his nose, the laugh lines on his face...everything. But, with every passing year she lost more and more of that instant memory until this point...when she couldn't remember the shape of his eyebrows....

"Briar..."

Or the exact color or style of his hair...

"Ms. Leeson..."

...his eyes were blue, right?"

She heard someone in the background clear their throat and looked up to find Mrs. Vaughn staring down at her.

"Briar, is there something wrong?"

Briar shook her head, "No no, sorry. I was just thinking about what to paint."

Mrs. Vaughn nodded and tapped Briar's nearly blank canvas, "Get to work" and walked away.

Briar sighed and put her pencil to the canvas for a moment, but still didn't know where to go from there. She ignored her absent memory and turned to Mia and Jen, "You guys going to the party tonight?"

Mia James

“I guess so,” Mia shrugged as she sketched an outline of Eben’s face. “Are you going?” she asked Briar.

“Only if you and Lindsay are,” Briar replied.

Mia smirked. “Well, me and Lindsay will only go if you promise to wear something other than jeans and a t-shirt.”

Jen giggled and Briar pulled a face. “That’s not fair! What’s wrong with wearing jeans and a t-shirt?”

“Uh, let me think...” said Mia, pausing in mock contemplation, “...everything! You’ve got an amazing body, Bri, you should learn to celebrate it.”

Briar gave Mia a look. “I’m tiny and way too skinny. Like a stick,” she added grimly.

“It’s nothing that some padding in certain areas won’t fix,” Mia winked. “You can get into one of my dresses. I’ll bring it over to Sophie’s so you can try it on. Who knows, maybe we can even drag her to this party too...”

“I wouldn't count on it,” Briar said, raising her brow and returning to her blank canvas.

“I'll bring Sophie to the party kicking and screaming if I have to,” Mia grounded out.

Just then, she spotted Chelsea enter the class.

“Hey, Chelsea!” Mia smiled.

Chelsea

"Hey, girl." She greeted back as she sat down at her usual table, across from Mia.

Chelsea's hair was sticking up from the fight that happened earlier. She was dreading that afternoon. The principal called a meeting with her parents, the "victim" Linda, and Linda's grandparents because her parents are out of the country. Chelsea realized that Linda was the one that throw the parties at her big mansion.

"Hey, Mia. What do you know about Linda Skank? Isn't she the one that throw those notorious parties at her house? I hear the same day she's throwing a party someone else is too."

Christian

The joy of switching classes.

Only one more, Christian. Funny, no matter how many times I tell myself that, I still have six more the following day. And the day after that. And the day after that. . . And funny how my last class is always the biggest class to drag. I give math the finger then walk in to take my seat.

"I hope you all copied down yesterday's notes. I'm gonna be counting that as an assignment."

Now she tells us. Why the freak would notes count as homework?

While everyone --or what seemed like everyone-- began scrounging through their binders for the notes they'd copied down, I sat idly in my seat. It seemed like Ms. Warner's Geometry students were always dead. Like little robots hungry for passing grades. Was the same last year, too. My only regret for not having passed last semester. I could've been out of here. . . Then again, I could have been in Algebra 2.

"Excuse me," Ms. Warner breathed in a strained tone. My attention flickered to the seat beside me, where some anxious kid was busy hand drumming it on the closed book on top of his desk. His earbuds were in, so he was absolutely oblivious to the teacher giving him the what-do-you-think-you're-doing-while-I'm-busy-conducting-this-class look. I smirked. Ms. Warner walked over to pull the earphones out of the kids ears. He stopped hand drumming and begun tapping his leg up and down in a strenuous motion. Or maybe he just really had to go to the bathroom.

"Mr. ..." She paused to look down at her seating arrangement for the kid's name. Never seen him at Whitney before now. Was probably new. "Preston. Would you please sit still and remove your notes from your binder so that they may be collected for grading."

The kid looked up at her with one large as hell smile. The funny part, it seemed genuine. "Whatever you say, teach."

Nearly the second he'd opened his foreign mouth the girls in my sixth period started singing a chorus of ooh's and omg's. I chuckled. Definitely a new kid.

The teacher returned to the front of the classroom. Preston began his pencil tapping while rummaging for his notes. I wasn't the only one who continued to stare though. He wouldn't stop moving.

I leaned sideways. "Bro, you always like this?"

He looked up at me and smiled some more. "Like what?"

"Jumpy-movey," I responded. I couldn't help but grow distracted as I looked at him though. His eyes were each... a different color. Way gnarly.

He chuckled. "Yeah, mate. Ain't enough ritalin to keep me down." He extended his hand for a slap. "Daniel. Call me Preston though, okay?"

I nodded. He seemed to be struggling to find notes in that mess of a binder. Everyone seemed to have already passed theirs up. Ms. Warner was moving on with class. "Where you from?" I asked him. He shifted a few times in his seat before giving up on the note finding.

"East of London, really." His smile kept. Looking just as amused with conversing rather than paying class any mind.

"You just move here or something?"

His nods were so quick, and he played with his lip as he spoke. The mannerisms of a third-grader. "Yep."

Figured so.

"Meet anybody interesting at Whitney?"

He raised an eyebrow as if giving it some thought. "A few. You all are so involved in your cliques though. What's a guy gotta do to fit in properly?" he chuckled.

I shrugged. "There's a party tonight."
Paul is my little, evil, yellow bundle of joy.

I'm actually posting. I know. I can't believe it either. Also, I know this will be annoyingly long--my first posts always are--so I apologise in advance for that. I'll try to make them shorter from now on! I won't move the SB on much either because I'm not sure what you guys want to do with the rest of the day.

Preston

"I hope you all copied down yesterday's notes. I'm gonna be counting that as an assignment."

Oh, holy mackerel. Holy, holy, mackerel. I was going to do it... Did that count? It was the thought that counted, right? Besides, it wasn't my fault I didn't do it. I was distracted. I mean, carrots were awfully distracting, and the one I'd eaten last night was heaven in a ginger shell, so naturally, I had another. And another. And another... four. You couldn't do homework and eat at the same time now, could you? Ah, well, I doubted Ms. Warnagadillabilla, or whatever her name was would have minded too much. With a sigh, I popped my earphones into my ears, and the drumming soon began.

Without any kind of warning, something hard tugged my earphones out of my ears. I flickered my eyes up to see the teacher, who if I may have said so myself shared a striking resemblance to a midget with an eye twitch, glaring at me. Someone needed a hug. And some stilts. The tapping moved from my hands to my legs as Ms. Warnagadillabilla began to speak.

"Mr..." Her voice trailed off as she scanned something in her hands. Her eye twitched in the process. Bless her. "Preston. Would you please sit still and remove your notes from your binder so that they may be collected for grading."

"Whatever you say, tech," I replied as I held back a wink.

What do you do when you haven't done your homework but there's a midget--a very aggressive midget--with an eye twitch asking you for some? Fake it and lie! The teacher started ambling back to the front of the class so slowly, I was beginning to wonder if she was lost. As an attempt to look even more realistic, I started shoving things around in my bag as I 'searched for my notes' while tapping my pencil, of course. Tapping things was fun.

"Bro, you always like this?"

Bro. Haha, American words. I looked up to see a dark-haired guy staring at me with slightly raised eyebrows. I scanned his face. Oh, hello. I'd sure have his face for breakfast.

"Like what?"

"Jumpy-movey."

"Yeah, mate. Ain't enough ritalin to keep me down." Once again, I forced a wink off my face. I swore had a fetish for winking... or an eye twitch. Hopefully not the latter: I hardly wanted to be like Ms. Midget over there. "Daniel. Call me Preston though, okay?"

"Where are you from?" the guy asked after a nod.

By now, I'd gotten bored of the whole cramming through my bag for non-existent notes thing, so I sat up straight and replied. "East of London, really." The part full of pit bulls and air riffles. I was tempted to crack a gag about only being stabbed twice while there, but I knew this guy wouldn't have gotten it.

Our conversation continued, and after a while, I was genuinely shocked that I hadn't been distracted yet. Normally, I could only chat for five minutes before either breaking out into song, staring at a lamppost or reciting the MC Hammer dance in my head. That last one was my favourite.

"There's a party tonight." The guy's words caused my ears to prick up. Yes! Perfect. And there was me worrying the only company I'd have in this school would be any head-lice I was lucky enough to catch.

"Awesome!" I replied, maybe a little too excitedly. "Gate-crashing it is." I grinned at the boy. "What's your name, by the way. I always forget to ask that... Probably because the last time I remembered, the kid's name was Willy. I pissed myself. Not literally... I didn't leave no puddle on the floor... Well, you get what I mean."

"It's Christian," he replied with a subtle smile.
I didn't know what to put here so I put this.
