Whitney High (Starting Now/Closing Soon)

Have you ever watch shows like "Degrassi" or "Skins"? They're popular because they're about thinks relatable to people our age: partying, schoolwork, dating, sports, etc. Watching these shows, I realized that a storybook about a disfunctional school setting could be cool. And so here it is.

This will take place in a small-town high school in Maryland, during the present period of time. The characters can range from ninth to twelfth grade, and I want a variety of them (cheerleaders, football players, geeks, artists, drama kids, skiiers, the whole shebang). But let's try to stay away from cliches (jocks and cheerleaders always being dumb, drama kids always being weird, geeks always being boring, etc). What I want is a multi-faceted school just like a real one. Take on a persona with their own high school problems.

So here are the rules before I get to the character form:


-Do not god-mod. No Mary or Gary Sues.

-It's based on a high school, so there will be sex and drugs, but don't get too into specifics in those areas. It could be awkward if there were detailed sex scenes and stuff. Just please don't.

-Use good grammar and punctuation. I understand mistakes, but just try your best with it.

-You can make up to 3 characters, but you have to keep up with them, and they can't all be alike.

Her family moved a lot until she couldn't take it anymore and stays by herself in an apartment as an emacipated minor. She started going to Whitney High in 11th grade. She visits her biological father in New York City -where he lives-once a year. He is a film critic and an aspiring director. She admires her father and hopes one day she films documentries. She dislikes her father's new wife and children. Bascially she has a big family.

Other Looks Info: Lindsay is skinny, and always wears her cheerleading uniform. Outside of school, she is seen wearing a bit of provocative clothing, with a hint of conservative.

Personality: In front of her fellow cheerleaders or her friends, she appears to be cruel and a femme fatale. She appears to be a super playboy playmate, just to satisfy everyone and keep her popularity. Though, Lindsay doesn't really care. In fact, Lindsay is a very smart and intelligent girl, though no one knows that. But if you don't judge quickly, and try to get to know her, she's actually really nice and kind-hearted. It's just that popularity is something to her.

Describe Family: Lindsay's family is very... strict. They revolve around sports and academics, her father being a former basketball player, and her mother being a former decathlon student. Her parents want a lot of things for Lindsay, some trust she doesn't even want, like being Valedvictorian. Her family judges other people quickly, and usually has Lindsay ashamed by the end of the day. Lindsay's parents are very picky too.

Any Problems You May Face: Drugs and smoking, possibly popularity loss.

Brief History: Lindsay was born to her strict parents, and attended Whitney High as a geek, with glasses, acne, and braces. Many people looked down on her and basically bullied her in her freshman year. But, during summer vacation, she convinced her parents to let her get some contacts, a nose job, laser surgery, and she took her braces off. Lindsay started taking gymnastics, and by the time entered Sophmore year, she was ready to join the squad. Everyone was shocked by her new appearance, and she was a shoe-in for next cheerleader.

Anything Else You Want to Include: She lost her virginity at the age of 15, to a football player. Lindsay is British, and up for love.

Name: Collin Green

Age: 15

Grade: 10th

Hair: Collin's hair is dark brownish-black and curly.It's average length and a little untidy, but always impeccably clean.

Eyes: His eyes are big and a hazelly gray color, with long blackish lashes.

Relative Height: 5'4-5'5

Relative Weight: 120 or so pounds/ thin and wiry

Other Looks Info: Collin has olive skin and a button nose. His ears are kind of big, his lips kind of small. He has white teeth, but they're a bit crooked on the bottom.

Personality: Collin has some serious crap in his life, but he turns everything into a joke, even if he's hurting on the inside. He's pretty smart, though he doesn't try too hard in school, and he's always sarcastic. He's really hyperactive. Collin keeps most of the stuff in his life to himself, but he isn't afraid to comment on other people's lives. In fact, he's a little bit nosy. But his heart is in the right place.

Average Grades: Bs and B-'s in all classes but gym (A) and independent study music (A+)

Best Friend/Clique: Collin has two really good friends and kind of floats around the different cliques. Jules Marshall has been Collin's friend since he met him in the principal's office in 3rd grade. Jules was upset that he'd gotten in trouble for copying another kid's homework because his mom and dad were really strict. Collin made him laugh through it, himself being there for mouthing off to a teacher. Jules is the sane voice to Collin's madness. Collin's other really good friend is Thalia Anderson, the only person that can make him laugh more than himself. The cliques that he kind of floats around are the other JV soccer guys, band kids, some of the funnier geeks, a few popular kids, and the stoners. If there was a word for Collin, it would be drifter.

Any Sports: Collin plays soccer and does no other organized sports, though he runs and swims a lot on his own time.

Any Clubs/Other Activities: Collin is pretty gifted with music. He plays piano as an independent study and is decent at the guitar and drums. As for school clubs, he sometimes does intermurrals. Collin's got an afterschool job bussing tables at a local restaurant.

Describe Family: Collin's family has always been a little bit different. His parents split up when Collin was four, and his dad ended up moving and not keeping any contact whatsoever. Colin's mom told him that his dad was was abusive and had an alcohol problem, not worth pursuing contact with. Collin tried not to think about it. His mother works as a secretary at the town hall building and makes decent but not great money. He has one sibling, a little sister named Haley who looks just like him. They're only a year apart and really close. Haley's a lot different than him, though. She's very quiet and kind of serious, though she's very artistic and loves to paint. Collin's really close to his maternal grandmother, a wisecracking old woman whose kitchen is always stacked with junk food. His family may not have much money, but they're pretty close.

Any Problems You May Face: Collin's a little bit into partying, so he may dabbel in some pot-smoking and alcohol drinking. Other than that, he has some anger and curiosity about his father, some girl troubles, and might go a bit too far with his goofing off. Also, he's got ADHD, though it isn't too bad and he has medicine for it.

Brief History: Collin was born in the spring 15-16 years ago. After his parents split up and his dad left, he started acting out a bit. Eventually, that just developed into a sardonic attitude. He and his sister grew up wrestling around and climbing trees and playing sports with each other. His grandma babysat Haley and him until he was old enough to look after them when his mom was at work. Collin became interested in music at school and got a toy keyboard and bongos for his sixth birthday. He'd played ever since. Collin played soccer starting in second grade and got out all his energy outdoors. He's looking for more to life in high school.

Brief History: Her father left when she was just nine, leaving her mother alone to look after three children. She couldn’t handle it and eventually fell into depression. After she tried to kill herself, she was hospitalised. Mia’s Grandmother Linda moved in and took full responsibility, and has been looking after Mia and her two brothers since.

Anything Else: She is always scribbling sketches, patterns and drawings in her school books.

Name: Jennifer (Jen) Pedersen

Age: 14

Grade: 9

Hair: Jen's light auburn hair runs in waves just past her shoulders. She usually has it in a messy ponytail, but when it isn't, it's down with a headband.

Eyes: Jen's eyes are big and the color of syrup. She wears dark brown Tina Fey-style glasses, and her brows are plucked immacuately. Her lashes are pale and barely noticeable.

Relative Height: 5'6

Relative Weight: 130 lbs

Other Looks Info: Her face is an oval. She has pale, freckled skin and a lanky physique. On the palm of her right hand, she has a jagged scar from when she crashed her bike into her mom's car on accident in sixth grade. As for her face, she has a longish nose and thin lips. Whenever she smiles, it is slightly sideways, like a smirk. Jen has a retainer, and she used to have braces. Sometimes, she wears contacts, but she has trouble putting them in.

Personality: Jen is really nice or mean. She's just Jen. It's the same way with the outgoing and shy parts of her. She's neither, just Jen. Her temper is horrible, and she get's into fights with her best friend really easily. But she loves her dearly and always ends up being the first to apologize. Jen's really neurotic when it comes to her weight, and she has a creative temperament. She can be immature and loves playing with her little siblings. Sometimes, she feels overlooked, though.

Average Grades: She has B-'s in everything but art (A), English (A), and math (D+).

Best Friend/Clique: Jen's best friend is Katherine (Kat) Webster. Kat was a new student in seventh grade, and Jen was kind of a loner. They were made lab partners and goofed off and got an F together. After that, they found out that they were both into art and swimming. They started hanging out and eventually grew into great friends. Jen hangs out with the artsy kids, some stoners, and the swim team, but mostly just Kat and a few normal kids.

Any Sports: Jen is on the the swim team. During the summer, she swims on her own, and she sometimes runs. However, Jen is extremely clumsy with her feet, and she trips all the time.

Any Clubs/Other Activities: Jen is in the art club, the newspaper club, and the film club. She also paints backdrops for the drama club.

Describe Family: Jen has a big family. Her mother is a nurse for a local pediatrician, and her father owns his own auto shop. Jen doesn't get along with her mom. They fight about everything, from the way she dresses to her "snarky remarks". But her father understands her better and usually sticks up for her. They make good money, but having four kids has a high pricetag, so their lifestyle is about average. Jen has three little siblings: two brothers and a sister. Mick and Chandler are 10-year-old fraternal twins. Both of them are loud and hyper and time-consuming. Her little sister Louise (Louie) is five. Louie is Jen's favorite because she's quiet and sweet and they make things out of Play Doh whenever Jen has to babysit. Jen loves her family, but it's kind of hectic. She usually goes to Kat's house when she isn't babysitting. Kat's an only child.

Any Problems You May Face: Jen has Type 1 Diabetes. She also may go through some form of sexual abuse and may develop problems with substance abuse.

Brief History: Jen was a summer baby. Her parents were young, just out of high school, and it took a few years to rise from poverty. When Jen was three, her mom got pregnant again, with twins. She was going to night school and had to take time off. When they came, everything was chaos. Upon her own request, Jen went to live with her Grandma and Grandpa for a while. She came back after a few months, when things were settled. She started school and found she didn't like it too much but did her best. Jen joined Little League and played soccer and loved art class. She spent her elementary years like most other kids until third grade, when her mom got pregnant again, this time planned. Jen handled it better this time, but still didn't like the attention the new baby got. She acted out. And then, everything changed. She started feeling sick a lot and got dehydrated and tired really often. She was diagnosed with diabetes. It was hard but she got used to the lifestyle. Eventually, she met Kat and started swimming and got more into her art and became the Jen she is today.

Anything Else You Want to Include: Jen falls in love easily and has major mood swings. She loves granola bars.

Hair: Briar has shoulder-length big, dirty blonde curls. She can usually be found wearing it in a loose pony or clip--it's typically only down and flowing freely if it's a weekend or she has no where to go.

Eyes: Briar has a type of green eyes that are very rarely seen--more emerald than one would typically expect to see.

Other Looks Info: Briar is very small framed, probably a little too skinny for her height. Jeans and t-shirt kind of girl.

Personality: Briar's personality in school is much different than that of her personality outside of school. In school she's not very talkative and doesn't make a giant effort to "fit in." She is a fabulous artist and attends Art Club most weeks, but stops going if she thinks it's getting too "trendy." She doesn't care much for her classes except for English, and her constant A in English is often the only thing keeping her GPA from disappearing completely as she usually pulls Cs and Ds in Math and History and runs a 50/50 chance of even passing any other class. Outside of school she's more active and interested in things, as she is able to hang out with people she "feels" she has more in common with...even though she really doesn't.

Average Grades: C

Best Friend(s)/Clique: No clique within the school. Spends a lot of time with people who don't attend her school outside of class.

Any Sports: None for the school, but she is very good as soccer and plays pick up games.

Any Clubs/Other Activities: Art Club, when she wants to attend.

Describe Family: Her mother left when she was nine months old, she was raised by her single father until she was 13 and he died from a brain tumor. She now lives with her Aunt and Uncle, and her cousin Lindsay.

Any Problems You May Face: Tends to fall in with the wrong crowd, which leads to parties with illegal substances. She hasn't taken part yet, but she hasn't decided whether she will or not in the future. She also spends a lot of time in bad parts of town.

Brief History: Briar's mother had a drug habit, and after spending 9 months of her pregnancy clean she couldn't hold out much longer and left the family when Briar was only nine months old. She is an only child and was raised by her father, who never remarried, until he died after a very short battle with a brain tumor when Briar was thirteen. She was legally adopted by her Aunt and Uncle, Lindsay's parents, and moved in with them. They tried to push their perfectionist values on Briar--it's obvious that they care for her as if she was their own child--but after a year/year and a half of trying, Briar's grades only got worse and her willingness to adopt their values have basically disappeared. Briar knows they still worry about her and want better things for her, but at the moment it's not her main concern. Lindsay and her family have always been the picture of perfection, and Briar doesn't feel as if she belongs with perfection. For the past year or so Briar has been making friends in more dangerous parts of town that she thinks "get" her--orphans, runaways, other kids who have no one--and spending less time at home.

Personality: Christian is very blunt and to the point. Sometimes this can translate into seeming like a jerk. Sometimes he is a jerk. But for the most part, his exterior rude-boy demeanor doesn't reach out very far. He has many friends, but isn't in need of attention or companionship, as much of high school seems to call for where popularity is concerned. He enjoys being alone quite a bit. This brings out his calmer, more creative side, like when he photographs. He's dependable and strong-minded, though not arrogant.

Average Grades: B's and C's

Best Friend(s)/Clique: You'll find Christian floating amongst much of the skaters and the deviants.

Any Sports: He loathes sports and jocks and prissy cheerleaders and the entire team atmosphere that goes along with it.

Describe Family: Christian was born illegitimately, and has no father. His mother died on a drug overdose when Christian was six. He lives with his grandmother (59) and younger sister Lexi (11) in a small two bedroom home in a rather nice neighborhood. No other family seems to be in the picture.

Any Problems You May Face (Learning Disorders, Rape, Cutting, Divorce, etc): He's always struggled with his dyslexia, but it's never been a large issue in his life. Not many people know about it anyway. He has minor abandonment issues, but buries the burden by keeping his distance from close relationships. He's not looking for love. In fact, he avoids it at all costs. No girlfriends, only the casual "hook-up". But perhaps he plays both fields. Only time will tell.

Brief History: Christian was born to a teen mother. He never knew his father, and his mother wasn't exactly all that great at caring for him. For this reason, he grew up much of his life living with his grandmother, who is also rather young for her age at 59. His memories of childhood aren't fond ones. In fact, he often finds himself resenting his childhood. His mom was always out getting her fix and partying with strangers he never knew. She became pregnant when he was 5 and had his little sister, Lexi. Not too long after the birth of his sister, his mother found herself in a depression. Turning to prescription drugs for relief, she ended up overdosing in the bathroom while she was suppose to be watching Christian and his baby sister while their grandmother was away. He vaguely remembers any of it, but tries to forget anyway. Despite this 6 year bump in the road, his life has proved fairly normal.

Describe Family: Ryn's family is your normal family...on the outside. Her dad is a big-time lawyer for the Angeli & Morris Firm. Her mom is your "sweet" housewife who stays home and takes care of the kids. Ryn is an only child. She had a twin, but it died at birth, or so she was told. Her dad is far from kind and tends to take his aggression out on Ryn...in any way he can think of.

Any Problems You May Face: Ryn will soon start drawing into herself and cutting. She may also get into drinking to escape her dads torture. It may very well come to pass that she meets her "dead" sister.

Brief History: Ryn is an only child of the big "rich" Angeli dynasty. Her father, a very successful italian lawyer with a very nasty temper, comes to Ryn when she is 13. Thats when the abuse starts. Ryn has multiple scars on her body from where her dad would put his cigarettes out on her. She tends to wear long sleeves to hide the scars on her arms. There is a long, jagged raised scar that reaches from her left hip to her right shoulder from where her mom went balistic on her and cut her with a knife. Ryn was hospitalised for two weeks due to that injury, but the cover up story was a car "accident".

Anything Else You Want to Include: Up for love. She is Bi-sexual.

Average Grades: Rei makes whatever he wants. He is smart, but he doesn't care enough to use it. His average grades range from the low C's to low b's

Best Friend(s)/Clique: Rei hangs with whoever he wants. He does tend to hand with the jocks and cheerleaders, though hes more comfortable with the emos and goths. Hes a bit of a loner at times. He may also have a crush on Jessie.

Any Sports: Soccer

Any Clubs/Other Activities: Ballet. He also plays the guitar and writes his own music which he sings.

Describe Family: Rei doesn't have a family. He was tossed into the foster system at the delicate age of 10 and moved from place to place until he ran away at the age of 15. He now stays in a group home for adolesents.

Any Problems You May Face: Rei may start using drugs and develop feelings for the same sex.

Brief History: Rei was tossed into the foster system at 10 and left for his own. Various foster parents attempted to abuse him, so when his foster dad came in his room one night, he said that was teh last straw. He ran away the next day and ended up in a "group home" for adolesents on the run. This home is like a home to many teens on the run. They provide shelter, food and water and identity.

Anything Else You Want to Include: Possibility that he is gay. Maybe not if the right girl can catch him in time. Up for love.

Hair: His hair is dark and ropey, worn in short dreadlocks, which hang down just short of his chin.

Eyes: His eyes are small and chocolaty-hued, his eyelashes thick and black.

Relative Weight: 160 lbs

Other Looks Info: Logan is half-black, and his skin is a soft cocoa color. He's average height and a little bit stocky, with a round face and big feet. His eyebrows are bushy, but he plucks in between, due to his extreme hatred of unibrows. He has pouty lips and a biggish round nose. Logan's proud of the small amount of chin and lip stubble he's beginning to accumulate.

Personality: Logan is kind of a happy-go-lucky sort of guy. He's positive and easygoing, but with a work ethic. He has a friendly disposition, but he doesn't get very close to anyone. He's more of an acquiantance to all. For the most part, he's a learner. He's trying to figure things out about the world. He's ready to participate in just about anything. He's devoutly religious, of the Catholic church, the beliefs of his family instilled in him. But he can sometimes be a bit ignorant and naive. He believes everyone is just like him: upbeat, energetic, smart, and religious. His assumptions about people can get him into trouble sometimes. But that isn't his biggest problem. His biggest problem is that he wants to be included in everything. Being popular's a big thing to him, even if that conflicts with the very principles he hears preached to him every Sunday morning.

Average Grades: In most classes, he get's high B's or low A's. He only goes above and beyond in science (chemistry), which he loves and has an A in. The only bad grade he has is in English class. He can usually slide by with a C minus, but he can't right a good sentence to save his life.

Best Friend(s)/Clique: Logan doesn't really have a best friend. For the most part, he hangs with the smart kids. But he also hangs with the other football and baseball players. He has a crush on Ryn Angeli.

Describe Family: Logan's mom is a serious woman, the head doctor at the local hospital. His father is an elementary school teacher for kids with learning disablilties. Logan has a little sister who, like him, has dyslexia. Her name is Nicole. His older brother, Patrick, is in the National Guard. They have two cats, Snowball and Whiskers.

Any Problems You May Face: Logan's upset over his brother's decision to go into the army. But he has other, more pressing, concerns as well. His job church youth group advisor is acting weird around him, doing things he shouldn't. His mother is starting to drink too much. And, on top of that, he can't seem to fit in.

Brief history: Logan was born in New York City, but he and his family moved to Whitney when he was four. He was a bright, happy child and had a great time in elementary and middle school. In ninth grade, his grandpa, who he was close to, died. He fell into a depression, but he recovered quickly. Tenth grade would be great.

Personality: She's shy to start but she definitely has a backbone. Skye isn't afraid to vouch her loyalty to even her strangest friends or fads, and while her mind's open to other people's perspectives she has a steadfastness to her own personal opinions. She's really creative, and is often playing guitar, piano, the flute, or otherwise sketching or trying her hand at different art forms. Skye's also a total nature girl and adventure-seeker, whether it's white-water rafting or ghost-hunting. She has a bit of an indie style, but doesn't try to be different - it just comes naturally.

Average Grades: Ehhh...3.4 is the pretty typical GPA....could be worse, right?

She has a 6-year-old brother Donny, who's the expected production of her two parents: cute, sweet, outgoing, and a genius.

Any Problems You May Face (Learning Disorders, Rape, Cutting, Divorce, etc): She was abused by her last boyfriend when he suddenly started drinking, and transferred to this school to get away from him. She's still got a couple of scars, particularly one that's right by her left eye that she's told is permanent. Her reaction has basically been to avoid relationships altogether, although sometimes her emotions make that difficult.

Brief History: Her parents were (honestly) rich, but lucky for Skye they spent their money in a way she loved - travel. She's spent nearly every summer in a remote part of the world doing exciting things that her parents share her aspirations for. She doesn't wear nice clothes or let on about the fact that she's from a wealthy family - in fact the last school was buzzing with the rumors that she was nearly evicted from her house - and tries to be down-to-earth about it. Most people don't know much about Skye's past, which has been overly-easy, to say the least.

Best Friend(s)/Clique: The Thespians (or Drama club), Musician, and she has no particular best friend. She gets along with the emo's goth's and skaters the most because they tend to understand her the most and also tend to appreciate her drawing. Describe Family: Her father is a drunk and very cruel and abusive but makes good money. Her mother is quiet and soft spoken but supportive. She has a little brother named Mordred whom she loves more then life itself.

Any Problems You May Face (Learning Disorders, Rape, Cutting, Divorce, etc): She has ADHD, Severe Insomnia, Bipolar disorder, and cutting. Clashing with Jocks and preps later. Her father will try and abuse Mordred and her mother later. She may end up in the hospital.

Brief History: Her mother had her when she was young and her father never wanted her. She's been abused by her father ever since she was 6 and told him to jump into a pit of tar and drown. Her mother had Mordred when she was 11 and she protects him with her life. She lost a very close friend of hers to suicide and turned to cutting to take away the pain. She hates jocks and preps because they teased her friend and she blames herself because he was talking to her and she had to do something for her mom. She told him she'd be back in 20 minutes but got caught at the store. When she came back there was a message for her saying goodbye. She ran to his house and found him dead hanging in his closet. He wrote her and all his friends notes saying goodbye and a little poem for each of them. It may be kind of morbid but she keeps hers with her at all times.

Anything Else You Want to Include: She loves to draw and read. She's got a beautiful voice. She's if you had to label her style gothic. Up for love and is bisexual. She can NOT repeat NOT stand bullying that's what made her friend kill himself. She has a picture of her friend, his girlfriend and her mugging for the camera with huge grins with her at all times in a locket and on the inside of her writing notebook.

Brief History: her mum and dad split up when she was 10 and she still remembers meeting claire (her older step sister) ... the first time she met claire she grabbed a chunk of her hair and pulled it out leaving claire screaming .... she didn't want to share her things ..... but she didn't want to seems a bully either so that's the main moment about when the depression kicked in ....
