I stared in the direction the fire had been still in shock. One minute the fire was there and the next it was gone. I could hear a girl calling out for help. I ran over to see if she was hurt. But when I made it over to her she was holding a girl in her arms. "What happen....is she ok?" I said worried. "I don't know she just fainted !!" Just then two men pushed us aside "what happen?". "She fainted" I replied as I turned to leave still puzzed about the fire..

Um, If you're talking about Nyoka, the one who made the illusion, she's a girl. >.<

I ran off back to my room, the water kissing my heels like a lover. I heard a hiss. I pushed the water out of my room and said calmly, "It's alright, Isis. I'm not going to get you wet." Isis was my pet Siamese purebreed cat. Although a six-month-old kitten, she's become attached to me and I couldn't just leave her with my grandmother. Unlike some people in the institute, I managed to sneak Isis in with me by turning her and myself invisible the first week I was in the institute. It turns out I can turn any object invisible as well as myself, whether the object was anywhere in my eyesight or in the area.
Isis came to me and purred gently as she rubbed herself against me. She just couldn't stay mad at me. My grandmother was against having a cat in the house, but my mother gave Isis to me so I could have a friend.

Fire. The alarm was enough to leave me half shaking in my boots. Plus, I was drenched, one of the kids already looked wary, and the other had gotten me soaked, so I wasn't--in the best mood, actually.

I frown and start to move towards the building as the one kid--Arthur, I think--raced off like he had hell hounds on his heels.

"Maybe we should help." Ashe said. He nodded stiffly at the dorm and I could only watch with rapidly growing horror as a blaze climbed the walls, orange talons wanting to burn out the roof and send walls crashing to the earth. I shuddered and looked away. I roll my eyes, though, trying to shake off--this. "Yes, because sane people always run towards fire," I joke...weakly.

Ashe just started to walk off, feet slapping on the concrete, and gave a call over his shoulder, "I never said I was sane. Just that we should go help."

I sighed and trailed after him, half jogging. If--maybe-- I just needed to be there. To help. So no one else around me would burn to death. That would probably be a good idea.

This couldn't have been my fault. I didn't--I just made her feel like she was on a frickin' hotplate! No way. Not my fault.
My SPD senses are tingling.

Spoiler
Pardon some puns, heh heh.

Isis laid on my bed, sleeping like a kitten. I smiled. Isis and I were quite a pair, even though she was a cat and I was a human. Sometimes I even pretended I was a cat, since I've been afraid of the water when I was twelve years old. Listening to Isis purr in her sleep, I laid down next to her and slept myself. I pried her mind just for fun. She was dreaming of me, as always. That was nothing new to me.
I heard an explosion and grinned in my sleep. The stinkbomb potion was doing its job, just the way I made it. The smell was expired sardines, garbage, and stinky socks- one of my most proud mixtures.

It hadn't been real fire, I don't know how, but I could tell. I furrowed my brow, and moved around the edge of the crowd, heading towards the dorms. I was still shaken by seeing him by the gate, and I hadn't reacted as quickly as I could have to the alarm. I had meanderd slowly towards the courtyard, where kids were running around screaming. can you say yawn? I was used to fire. And ice. my two favorite things. I would gladly have just hung around and watched the fire they claimed was lite in the dorm. Shesh. As I walked towards the dorms, I felt a little faint. Wonderful. Even a light jog, could tire me. I mounted the dirty stone steps, and entered my room. two cots, each with a blue bedspread, two dressers, two vanitys, two bookshelves, two windows. Nothing to diseern each persons space. A sign on the door instructed new students to go down to the laundry room to retrive sheets, blankets and pillows. Another sign under that said there was a small shop that you could spend your Emire coins what the heck is an Emire coin? and buy some things to 'brighten up' your room.

Phft. Nothing could 'brighten up' this cell.

Footsteps. who was coming up to this cell of a room? did I have, a roomate? I wouldn't be able to live like that. No roomate!
NONE.

Nila
This woman wouldn't stop talking! the woman I handed my 'fake' papers to had told me to find Natilie. Once I did, and it took forever we had to go check out the 'fire' which hadn't even been real! someone must have created it. And I had an idea who. there had been a girl, who had been running around crazy, and then she had been suddenly quiet. and then fainted. an illusion. probably, I had tried to read a memory, but an uncoicous mind is much harder to read.
This girl, Natile cotinued chattering about 'special classes' 'schedules' and 'cute boys'

ugh. boys are stupid. Unless their wikkans. Then their hot. But, its been a long time since I've seen one.

I tossed my long strawberry blond hair over my shoulder and followed her up the stairs.
Natile opened the door, and we entered...

I heard someone open my door, but didn't stir. I pried and found two girls staring at me and Isis sleeping together on my bed. One of the girls favored Wiccan boys. Even though I'm half-witch, I suppose that counts as Wiccan. Both girls were just absolutely gorgeous, but I wonder if they're allergic to cats. If so, I just have to flush them out. I don't want to send Isis back to my grandmother who uses corpses for divination, especially those of cats as young as my innocent Isis.

Someone must be coming to check and see if a window was left up or something.I better hurry on to my room. I didnt feel like getting blamed for this or have them ask me any questions.

First day of classes. great. As I walked across the feild to my classroom, a guy joined me.
"Hi, I'm Authur. are you allergic to cats?"
"hi... um, no I have a cat myself. Named Nefertiti.. why do you ask?"
he looked really happy. He said "oh, its just that I have a cat, and I don't talk to anyone who doesn't" he winked to let me know he was joking and said "anyway, whats your first class?"
"Gigorin phisics. What is that?"
"Gigorins are a section of fairie. they are mostly scientist and egineers. thats just so you know what expect. Gigorins are kind of spacy."

I looked down at my schedule. "What is invisibilty and Rigers dynamics?"
his brow furrowed. "Its for people who specialize in mind fooling, such as invisibilty. and for people who mind read."
"What about people who read memories?"
"I've never heard of that. you'll have to ask ole' Mac. he is a retiered Limk. A certian kind of elf. "

I could feel my heart race.
"thanks."
"your welcome."

Nyoka

When I stirred, I was in my bed, in my dorm. The orange color was the same, at least. My eyes blinked warily as I realized some sort of child was at my door.

"Nyoka?" He asked. I nodded. " You're wanted down in the testing rooms."

I nodded again. "Thank you."

"Don't mention it."

I waited a minute after he left before I got up. My dorm was on the second floor; not that bad, in the face of the many natural and unnatural disasters that were sure to come.

I arrived in the blank, white room swiftly. Someone was in there with a white coat.

"Please, sit. I'm sorry if you're still weak from your... unfortunate faint."

I eyes her strangely. "Um... okay, then." I sat down in an uncomfortable, white, generic chair.

"Well, Nyoka, I couldn't help but wonder is you were somehow tied to the 'fire'. Has anything like this ever happened around you?"

"Oh yea. All the time." I replied.

"Like what?"

"Tornadoes with no wind; fault lines before an earthquake. Even erupting volcanoes in the middle of a road. It's all strange, really."

"Hm. Interesting." She said, before sitting on a chair across from a small white table. "Do you know of any abilitie you may have, Nyoka?"

"The only strange thing about me is that I'm Giroclycemic." I replied.

"Well, Nyoka, I want you to stare at the table. I want you to, as best as you can, picture a snake sitting right there."

I did as she told.

"Relax. Don't think about what I'm telling you to do or how strange it is; just focus on the snake."

And, lo and behold, a cobra appeared in front of my eyes.

I sniffed the air a little and grinned. The stink potion is still loose and- judging by the stench's strength- might last a little longer than I expected. Once I was sure the coast is clear, I went invisible and slunk back into my room to fill Isis' food and water bowls before I could make more mischeif. Isis knew I returned to feed her. She could smell me easy. I put the bowls in her cage, waited for her to get inside, shut the cage door, and made the cage and Isis disappear like magic. I went visible and whispered, "Hang in there, Isis. I'll be back in time to give you your dinner. Don't make a sound while I'm gone."
Someone knocked on the door and a male voice said, "Arthur, you're needed at the testing dorms. Unless you got the audacity to go in a trance, I suggest you get moving."

Sometimes, you may feel faint after using your power for very long...

I knew all this shit. Why did they have to explain it to me in a stupid text book? more than one acutally. I glanced at the schedule I had hung on my vanity mirorr.

9 am:
breakfast
11 am:
Gorgons Sleeping techinces.
12:30 pm:
rest and study
2 pm:
various classes, you will be imformed
4 pm:

M.I.N.D.

6 pm:

7 pm:

its going to be a long year... I thought, turning back to my text book

*note I did this so that it could be more realistic, and add some idea of what happens every day, cause it doesn't seem like much to me right now, no offense to anyone.*

*I'm going to try to get the plot moving, if no one else minds. I'm going with the assumption that at least some of the Institute's staff have powers themselves.*

Ashe Breaker:

Ashe was up a tree when he heard them talking. He was so surprised he almost fell right out in front of them. But instinct saved him, his nails turning into claws and digging into the bark. Ashe breathed a sigh of relief that the leafy green foliage concealed his presence. The researchers were acting suspicious, hiding behind the tree and whispering in low voices to not be overheard. So when they chose to have their secret meeting right beneath him, really they were all but begging him to evesdrop.

Because of the stinkbomb in the dorm Ashe had opted to sleep outside. Of course he almost always slept outside. His first week here paranoia had caused him to pretty much dismantle his room looking for hidden cameras, and he hadn't been wrong. Most days though days he slept on the roof, and the majority of the kids avoided the woods for some reason.

Ashe's idle musings stopped as he caught what the teachers were saying. Without thought he gave himself the hearing of a wolf so he could listen easily. "This isn't working. The Leader keeps saying be patient but they just aren't listening." The agitated voice belonged to a young man.

"Most of the subjects are actually quite obedient." An older man pointed out.

"The weak ones." A female asserted and Ashe stiffened as he recognized Jessica's voice. "The more powerful ones just aren't tractable. David, Arthur, Cataluna, Ashe, Nyoka, Jake, even those new girls Azure and Nila. None of them really listen. And when they do behave it's because they feel like it not because they obey us."

"Perhaps you are right. The stronger ones do tend to be difficult. We could use the control collars on them I suppose, but they would have to be away from the school for several weeks while they were conditioned." The one who seemed to be in charge pointed out.

The younger man's voice was triumphant when he spoke. "That's not a problem we can say we're taking them camping for practical training of their powers. There's an old research facility in the woods, we can keep them there."

"And since the dormitory stinks like a sewer right now I doubt any of them will question the trip. They'll just be glad to get away." Jessica's voice was slyly vindictive, as the trio headed back to there jobs.

Ashe sat in the tree for what seemed like hours as he sorted through everything he had overheard. Swearing a blue streak he jumped nimbly down from the tree and headed back to campus. He had no idea what was going on, but one thing was sure, Ashe didn't like the sound of those 'control collars' and he didn't want one anywhere near him. Ashe bet the others would agree, now he just had to find and warn them.

*Maybe one of the others could catch wind of the plot. One of the telepaths could read someone's mind or memories.*

I heard a rapid tapping from out the window. Isis went frantic and I had to put her in the cage to calm her down. After a small struggle, I went to my window and opened the pane. It was Ashe and he looked terrified. I pried his mind and got shook up. Control collars?! Not on my throat. I said calmly, "Ashe, I think you better round up the other stronger ones. Tell them to come in through the window of my bedroom. I know this is awkward, Ashe, but I am not going to have a collar on my neck and be treated like a mutt."
Ashe just stared at me, confused.
I rolled my eyes and threatened, "Get the hell moving or I'll be sure to keep you on ice for a month this time."
He left, my threat taken under consideration.
I looked at Isis, then went into meditation. I whispered in my meditative state, "Nanna, I need your help. My friends and I need you to guide us to sanctuary. You are the only witch in my family to contact the Goddess for help. Please, Nanna. Please, help us stronger children. Protect us, Nanna. We need you."

Spoiler
Nanna is Arthur's grandmother's nickname from his mother.

I was laying under the big oak tree that was out side my room window. The sun felt good on my face. This was the only moment I had to myself since I got here. I could hear someone coming toward me fast.

"Hey, Jake !" I looked up a little irritated.

"Ashe, Right?" I asked. I could tell my mood was showing, but I didnt care.

"Yea" he said out of breath."Go.. to..... Arthur's room" he added trying to catch his breath.

"Why" I asked coldly.

"It's important" he said pleading.

"Fine" I said "But this better not be one of his pranks" I added coldly. Which was followed by a far off rumble of thunder.

"It's not" He said as he ran off."Oh and go in though the window." He added as he dashed off behind a the building.
