I write 'cause I have all sorts of story ideas that I enjoy thinking about and would probably like to read about again later! Kinda like jotting down ideas so you don't forget. I write for me!
I review what I can when I can 'cause I like helping others, and if I have something to offer in order for them to become more successful, why should I hold back?
I write because I've always written. It's what I do. Also, it's fun.
I review because I can't not comment on a work after reading it. And when reading, if a possible comment about something comes into my head, it would be silly not to say it.

"14. Pretend like you would want him even if he wasn't a prince. (Yeah, right.)" -How to Make a Guy Like You - Disney Princess Style
I'm not sure why, really.:/ I wish I could offer you a logical explanation, or something like, "I love to write." But that's a lie, because sometimes, I hate writing. It's frustrating and difficult and demanding. Sometimes exhausting. At times, it hurts my brain.
But there's just something about the way words flow that gets to me, you know? Maybe it's the way they coincide with the rhythm of your breathing, or their looks. I don't know. But whatever it is, it's taken root inside of me.
As for reviewing, it's good practice for writing. By reading and reviewing others' works, you realize what works and what doesn't; you discover which words are liquid and the ones that can drag time out. It's all related to my relationship with writing, really. X]
"The moral of this story, is that if I cause a stranger to choke to death for my amusement, what do you think I’ll do to you if you don’t tell me who ordered you to kill Colosimo?“
Why do I write??....It helps me escape the madness, the melancholia, the panic fear and other kind of stuffs..It's amazing..It's fun..It's sweet..I love writing..It's what I do and if I don't write, to empty my mind, I will definitely go mad..
..I make reviews because..I don't know..maybe because it's helpful..it teaches someone something..it's a writer's way of saying "Hi!" or "Hello" or "What's up?" to another writer..Oh wait,Is it?..
I love to write because I love to create. I love to think of situations and characters in my head and bring them to life both for me and for others to enjoy. Also, I just like storytelling in general, both listening/reading/watching and creating my own.
I love to review because it helps other people and it just feels good; it also increases my analytical writing skills that I will need for English classes and makes me into a better writer. I also like finding so many works that are good and really deserve to go somewhere.
All our dreams can come true — if we have the courage to pursue them. -- Walt Disney
Was doomed at the age of 3 when his father read him Poe regularly, and then attempted on his own to make sense of the big words and strange words and things he didn't understand. Stared at the Raven on the front of the book. Finally got it at 5 or 6, but by then was doomed to life as a writer. Has flirtations and outings with George Orwell and will one day finish book 6 and read book 7 of the Harry Potter series. Majors in College: English & Rhetoric (Creative Writing) Job Prospects: I'm a beautiful snowflake.
I write because it's not just a hobby or a fun thing for me; it's more natural than walking, studying a lake, or smelling roses, the only things that sort of match it are speech and thought. I read writing like a prepared hog, roll it over in my mouth like oatmeal or peanut butter and occasionally like smooth caramel, ricochet it in my mind across the synapses and get an image of the writer, and hopefully there's enough left to scoop up and eat on an ice cream cone. Writing isn't just cathartic for me or a way to rid personal demons, it's something I've seen can bring positive and negative change. The words, the meaning, the signifier and signified, become completely different once you go deeper and examine yourself and the work you create. I also write to find other writers, and when I find them, the result is wunderbar. Raw, well written writing is one of the best feelings and experiences in the world for me, and there are few other things that match it. In the end, it opens my mind back up, and helps me learn again, and shows me to never become fatalistic.
Reviewing? Reality. WE have to get out of our heads and see what we create means to other people. Reality sucks. But get it enough and pay attention and you grow. You get better and you do yourself and everyone else justice. I've seen people grow from constructive criticism and who appreciated it, and the result was fantastic. Just that alone is magical to see. The review itself shows someone felt they needed to take the time to look at something closely and care enough to leave thoughts, and that's something that simply is not common in the real world. Much less the reading audience. So besides taking it upon yourself to be well read and push yourself, you have to have input, both supportive and critical.
I write because I enjoy it and it's also a way to get the little ideas and "movies" out of my head and onto something more tangible.
I review because I like giving back to this site, and in the meantime I find myself improving and learning new writing tips that I pick up from other reviewers. And I like the stars.
There are two kinds of folks who sit around thinking about how to kill people: psychopaths and mystery writers. I'm the kind that pays better. ~Rick Castle
I write because sometimes characters are my only company, and I like hearing the characters begin to turn into their own people as their stories go on. I love stumbling on new worlds and lifestyles and more parts of myself because all characters come from me.
I review because I love helping, and I love analyzing. I also gives me something to do during slow periods in life, in order to keep my logic sharp. It's primarily a mental exercise for me.
A writer is a world trapped in a person— Victor Hugo
Ink is blood. Paper is bandages. The wounded press books to their heart to know they're not alone.
I'm a selfish person; I write and review for myself.
As for writing, I just do... There's no real logical reason to why I write. I think I'm similar to Ranger. I have these, like, movies in my head that I can't help but write down, otherwise my brain will explode. It's just a way I like to spend my free time, I guess, even if it is horribly frustrating sometimes.
As for reviewing, I find that it's a brilliant way of improving my own writing. By searching for faults in other pieces, I notice those faults in my writing, so I'm able to fix them myself until I eventually never make the mistakes in the first place. Selfish, really. Mind you, I do always like it when I know that I've helped someone with their writing, especially when they comment on my wall or something to thank me.
I write because I'm pretty sure if I didn't, I'd go utterly mental.
I read and review entirely for me, however. No, that's not quite true, but it's true enough. I see writing as a puzzle you have to fit together - and each new piece of writing is just another puzzle I get to piece together! Selfish of me, yes. Fun, you bet! Do I help anyone - well, that's up to the author, I think. I tend to see in possibilities, so like when I went over my brother's last essay for him, I did it the way I would review on YWS, I went for the possibilities and used those to explain how to fit those pieces together that he had, and where he had parts started that he could use to make those other pieces. Plus, it helps me think through my own unorganized mess of thoughts and makes me a better writer!
That was a really long and probably convoluted metaphor. But! I write for me, and I review for me and sort of for others. But mostly because I get a high from it.

Medieval Lit! Come here to find out who Chaucer plagiarized and translated - and why and how it worked in the late 1300s.
I write because I have to. If I didn't, I'd lose any bit of sanity I'd have left.
I review because I love to help other writers like I was helped when I first joined the site. I've improved so much thanks to people reviewing my work, and because I went out and started reviewing other people's work (even if I didn't quite know how to review at first ).
I've never really thought of writing as a "why" or "why not" sort of thing. I write because that's what I do when I am sad/angry/upset/happy/joyous/in love... Writing isn't what I do, it's a part of who I am. I feel like I should join some meeting somewhere. "Hi, I am Tiffany, and I am a writer." Fortunately, they haven't tried to create any 12 step programs yet, so I get to keep this addiction.
As for reviewing, I like to try to help writers in their first stages of writing. I love when I get those PMs from people, months or even years later, that say that I helped them way back when. I got a letter from a kid I helped in High School a few weeks ago saying that if it weren't for my tutoring he would have probably flunked out of college. That's an awesome feeling. More than that, it's really great to see a writers talent blossom, but every writer needs help/feedback to do so
