I'd prefer it if we keep divine intervention out of the storybook, (i.e. no god-modding.)

Just as long as your character doesn't have the spirits do his fighting for him, it is okay.

~Thaden Ma'lar~

Finally, some reinforcements arrived. Seraph and some other person I hadn't seen before had come. Another Djinn fell to an invisible form. A Djinn jumped from a tree onto my back. I contained the fire, but I couldn't concentrate on the the rest of him. I flapped my wings harder and gained altitude.

Fire shot out at me, but they missed by a wide margin. The Njinn started hitting me from behind. I couldn't reach him from here. I'd have to use my flying. When I felt him shift his balance for another blow, I brought my right wing in. When I had finished my sharp turn I brought my left wing in and fell. All the Djinn could do was hold on. The ground came up faster and faster. At 100 feet, I initiated a crash landing. I stopped my dive at 50 feet. My altitude was still dropping, but now it was a smooth drop.

Normally, my airspeed would be too fast to stop. With battle talons though, I had the extra traction I needed. As we approached the ground, I flared my wings briefly, then pulled them back in as I thrusted my talons into the ground. The resulting collision happened incredibly fast. I pulled my head in just at impact. I felt myself doing a front flip. I landed hard on my wings, but I had survived.

My passenger had not though. He had been ejected from my back into a tree and burst upon impact. The number of Djinn had declined significantly. All around me, they were being engaged. Pain, which had been kept down by adrenaline, now rushed up all over my back and wings.

As man and gryphon battled furiously against a score of flaming monsters, a giant mass of dark green flesh leaped from the trees, a blur of dark that almost blended with the forest. Two Djinn were down instantly, sent flying as fists the size of horse heads slammed into them. The Djinn exploded in a fireball as they landed in a bone-crushing heap into a large nearby tree. The surrounding Djinn hesitated, surprised at the suddenness of the attack and the form of the attacker.

Before them stood something out of a nightmare. It seemed like some sort of bog creature, slimy and dark green, with blotches all over. It had bulbous black eyes and sharp teeth sticking out of its gigantic mouth in all directions. It stood like an ape, with huge arms and thick legs, and had a small stub of a tail protruding in the back. A couple of Djinn looked at each other nervously, then leaped up as a huge black-green arm swept the whole group of them, catching two more and sending them sprawling onto the ground. Three jumped onto the creature, but the creture just smiled and bunched up, looking constipated. He had no trouble, however, in releasing the slime that erupted from various bumps on his thick hide, simultaneously catapulting and extinguishing the three Djinn.

How weak... Croak thought, yawning.

Rushing blindly through the flames, I collided with the Njinn, bearing him down beneath me.

Flames licked at my hair and face, but I ignored them and brought my sword over my head. The fire elemental, trapped beanth my the combined weight of my shield and my own considerable bulk, had no defense against my blade.

I stood up from the smoldering remains of the creature, flames licking at my clothing.

I turned in time to see some massive bog creature tear into the elemental ranks.
Got YWS? I do.

"firerunner" i said pausing,"have some fun"

i drew out my halberd, and ran into the fray, as firerunner imeadiatly engaged the first fir njinn in sight , snapping at its neck. i stode past them picking out one of the njinn aiming a fire arrow at the griffin, i slashed at its back, but the blade only melted, and the njinn turned around to face me; and because i had just attacked my invisibility was gone. "i new i should've enchanted it while i had the chance, damn, now i have to buy a new one" i said drawing my kukri ; "this will help a little" i said while summoning my mage armour.

"9, 10, 11..." Croak counted the remaining Djinn. An easy match for me, let alone for all four of us. I'll make this quick then. Croak grabbed one and hurled it straight up into the sky, just for kicks. "That's 10, now..."

Meanwhile, Seraph rolled quickly as another Djinn thrust at him with his sword. Extinguishing the flames quickly, Seraph leapt nimbly to his feet and blocked the sword with his shield as the Djinn attacked again. Turning the shield slightly as the sword came a third time, Seraph sidestepped the thrust, throwing the Djinn off guard and turning the outsider around. He then quickly sliced ahead, cutting the monster in half. Correction: That's nine, now... Seraph thought to himself.

Croak looked left and right as three of the remaining Djinn slowly stalked toward him. Four of the creatures were still attacking the Gryphon, one of them turning to face the drow that had just entered, one was between Croak and Seraph, turning to fight the big man, and the last one was backing away from Croak, towards Seraph. Croak nodded, quickly, then his arms shot out wide, towards the two Djinn on his sides. The Djinn jumped away, smiling at Croaks foolishness as the third came in at his exposed belly. Croak smirked, and quickly brought his hands together, crushing the Djinn between them. The two on his sides came in then, catching him open, but Croak turned to his right, grabbing the one in front of him while expelling slime onto the one behind. Then, with a nasty grin, Croak vomited onto the remaining Djinn, extinguishing the creature permanently.

Seraph turned toward his newest foe, taking note of the one behind it that might attack as well. Lowering his sword, he beckoned the creatures forward.

The Djinn that Croak had thrown into the air returned, screaming as he rushed toward the ground at breakneck speed. Croak turned toward Seraph, seeing the two Djinn in a line between them, and punched the Djinn just before he landed, sending him straight into the other Djinn--and into Seraph, as well.

"Whoops..." Croak said simply as the Djinn fell in a smoldering heap and Seraph lay at the base of a tree, thoroughly unconscious. "My bad."

Note: Dono gave me permission to control Seraph for this post, so don't worry.

the Djinn threw a fire ball, but while dodging it Driznardren cast a walls of solid ice enclosing the Djinn. Then calling upon his drow abilties he levitated in the the air, preparing to wreak havoc upon the Djinn with a lighting bolt, if only he had watched were he was going. Driznardren swiped by one of the raging griffins claws was sent spinning into a tree, and there he lay trying to wipe the blood out of his eyes. The Djinn burst out of the icy holding steaming, his flames low, he lept at the dazed drow, but a large hell hound jumped on the Djinn, grabbing onto what would seem its neck the hound ripped and tore, flames flying everyewere.

The last of the Djinn were being mopped up. The entire affair had been nasty. I looked to the others.
"Is there a healer here?" I said stupidly. The trees were starting to blur together. The wind blew them hard, their leaves rustled off of them. I think I landed too hard, I thought before going unconcious.

I throw my sword hope it hits the dejinn and fall down into the hole "Ahhhhhhhhhhhh i scream loadly" I land on something soft thank goodness i pick myself up and i cannot see a thing. I walk around the place blindly for a few minutes realizing that no use i go for waiting for help "Helpppppppp i shout as loud as i can" The voice echoes back in haunting manner. Then i hear another voice....

Okay, fontroy, two things are fundamentally wrong with that post. First off, you just said that your character shouted "Help as loud as I can!" Secondly, you are nowhere near the fight, since you're still outside the tavern and the fight is taking place in some other place which I'm still having trouble understanding exactly where it is. In any case, you might want to edit your post a little heh.

One of these days, one of our new characters will need to be a healer. The only one who has healed has been knocked out.

Also, if you are just entering the storybook, make sure that for every power your character has, there is a weakness that comes from it. For example:

If you can heal someone fully, then you must go into a trance or become tired. The trance and exhaustion make the power balanced. For the most part this storybook has been pretty good about keeping it balanced.

In response to that: don't worry about Croak; you'll see that his abilities have plenty of balancing weaknesses to them.

I want to let you guys know that I've modified my position on divine intervention et al.

If you have an idea involving a deity that can advance the story, let me know, and we'll see how we can work it in. I'm going to introduce a second character shortly.
