Lament of Innocence

Aris

I heard a sound behind me. Kale came up, and looked through the bars. "Ari! Sel! Tar!"

"What are you doing?! You're going to get caught!" I hissed.

"I'm on break, and they said quote-You can go wherever you like as long as you don't make trouble-end quote. So I decided to come up here and, of course, not make trouble," he added.

"You know very well that won't matter to them," I muttered, but I still felt relieved at seeing him.

"Yeah... why are you locked up with them?" he raised an eyebrow.

"Oh, just watching them." Kale looked at me like he didn't believe me. "Really! Not joking!"

Selene
"She's telling the truth Kale." I said quietly. He looked at me skeptically. "She is." I insisted. "I know." He said.

Aris

Tarrion was glaring at Kale. "Ok, we're trapped! Can you both just put your problems behind you?!" I asked, exasperated. Kale shrugged noncommitally as did Tarrion.

"Oh, come on, we don't have enough time for this," Sel said impatiently. "What we need to do is-" suddenly she was cut off as the guards came back in.

TARRION

I shrugged and immediately regretted it. Pain coursed through my body and I began trembling.

Two guards ran in and I cursed silently. Damn it!

They eyed Kale and Aris curiously. "And just what do you think you're doing?" They hissed.

Kale's eyes widened. "We...were....umm...."

Aris shot him a warning glance to keep his mouth shut and wiped her tears. "I'm sorry--it's just that...I'm so weak around pain. I just lost it is all." She sniffed just to prove her point.

Aris

"We don't pay you to give us this crap," the guard shouted.

"You don't pay us at all!" Kale shouted.

"Figure out your position or get out," the guard said threateningly.

TARRION

"Leave the girl alone!" I shouted. I ignored the pain and focused all of my energy on getting mad at the guard. "She hasn't done anything wrong!"

One of the guards turned to glare at me and opened my cell door a crack, slipping inside. The other held it closed. "You defiant little wretch!" He punched me twice in the gut and hit me on the head. Aris gasped.

"What did he do to him?!" Selene shrieked.

"Gave him what was coming!" The guard spat. "Shut it or your next!" He let me slump to the floor and slipped out of my cell.

The last thing I heard was the back of a hand across Aris' face and her squeaking. My vision blurred and disapeared all together.

Aris

I was slapped by the guard. "Don't give me cheek like that again or you're going down to the prisons too," he hissed.

Kale and I quickly left, even though I wanted to stay. "What will we do now?"

Selene
I screamed a wordless high pitched scream of frustration, anger. and pain at the guards and one of them came into my cell and slapped me into silence. I put a hand to my cheek and smiled as he left along with the other guards. At least he didn't hurt Tar again. "Tar I know your probably out but I love you." I said falling asleep my head against the wall.

I made my way back to the prisons, fuming. Talen hadn't wanted to see me at all. In fact, she had seemed quite offended by my presence. "I had no desire to speak with you." Those had been her exact words.

I arrived just in time to see the two guards beating the prisoners into unconsciousness. As they left the cells, I fixed them with a cold smile. "Did you beat them as punishment for their actions?" I asked briefly, and the two of them nodded eagerly. My expression turned dark, before I drew my sword and stuck it deep into one guard's stomach. The second shouted out in horror, and I twisted the blade, then pulled it out and watched with grim satisfaction as the guard collapsed.

Fixing the still-alive guard with a soft stare, I spoke softly. "I don't think you understand how this works. She misbehaves," -I pointed to Selene- "and he gets punished. And vice versa. Got it?" The guard nodded once. "Good. Now get rid of that and find someone to replace his shifts."

As the guard hurried off, I resumed my spot in the corridor, watching both prisoners intently. Once they were conscious, I'd find out who those servants had been, this time without the use of violence.

TARRION

The knife glinted silver in the moon light as it was raised above her head. Who's head? A high pitched, wailing shriek sounded in the distance. The sound of clashing metal and swhishing swords filled the air.
The knife stopped, now a full five feet above his naked belly. A chilling cackle filled filled his ears and swam about his mind.
The sounds of battle came to an abrupt hault. Silence. Silence except for that patronizing cackle.
He struggled against whatever bound him. Every ounce of strength was waisted nearly instantly. The knife hovered dangerously for a moment and suddenly came down, penetrating his flesh
He roared in pain and finally, the face unveiled itself. Talen...

My eyes shot open and I began sputtering. I was choking! I heard the doors to my cell open and Taeryn was standing above me. She lifted me gently to a sitting position and blood poured out of my mouth, all over the princess and the floor.

"What's happening to him!?" Selene's voice shrieked.

"He's okay..." Tareyn trailed off. She was awefully pale. She was staring at the right side of my stomach.

I shifted my gaze to where she was staring. A daggar protruded from my waist, fresh blood on it. My eyes widened in horror. How had it...? I looked at the ceiling to see a gaping hole. Light shone through, almost blinding me. It darkened again...had something been placed over it?

I slipped back to unconsciousness.

Selene
I was terrified and screamed again "What happened? Please let me see him!" I begged my voice breaking. "Please I think I can help." I begged again. One of the guards that had come in shifted uncomfortably and glanced at Tarrions cell. "Let her in." Taeryyn's voice said. He opened my cell and I bolted knocking him down I ran into his cell and saw Tarrion unconciousness with a dagger poking out of his side. I paled and sank to my knees beside him. I ripped my shirt sleeves and pressed it to his side slowly easing the dagger out continually keeping the pressure to it. I placed the dagger next to me and kept even pressure although it sent waves of pain through my arms and back. "Please don't die on me oh please Tarrion please don't I can't live without you I love you please live please." I said barely aware of the words I was saying. I lifted the shirt sleeves away and it wasn't bleeding anymore. I kept the pressure there to keep it that way and I smiled slightly although my hands and forearms were covered with his blood.

Selene
I smiled through my tears and ignoring the blood he had coughed up kissed him lightly on the lips. "I love you to. Please don't talk unless it's absolutely necessary." I begged him brushing his hair out of his eyes tenderly. He smiled weakly and brushed my cheek lightly. I let out a small sob of relief and put my hand to my mouth to smother it.
