I was writing the other day and I wanted to do a horror. Then I decidedto post it on YWS, but there isn't a horror section. So I was wondering if anyonewants a horror fiction section??

I believe it would just fall under whatever category it suits, probably fantasy, or science fiction if it's fantastical with monsters and such. Or if it's grounded in reality, either action/adventure or the Other fiction section. :P

Yes, I would post in a horror section, though I would probably avoid R rated posts.

I'd review in it, for sure. But while I love getting spooked, I don't tend to read horror all that much, and somewhat by extension of that, don't really write it either. It's an idea that I've dabbled with, though. If there was a forum in it, I'd probably use it as a stepping stone of sorts. Review in it, see what works and what doesn't... basically what you do when you critique in any other forum. Use it to gain an understanding of how to write in the genre, then maybe make a work of my own.

However, it does take some effort to make a new forum, so unless a lot of people sign on for it, I don't know that it's going to happen quite yet. A year or two ago Nate said that if we could find so-and-so number of active, recent horror stories in the forums, he'd consider doing it. I think it was something like 20 or 25 or so.

So, if you vote "yes", it might give the poll a bit more weight if you could link to a horror story or two that you had written prior to the creation of this poll. :)

I wrote a horror story just recently. Rated 12 for no language, nor violence, but too creepy to be E rated. :P

Yes!

Me and Jared (BigBadBear) attempted to get a horror section created. I love reading horror stories, but I can't find them that easy on here. ><

[Firearris] 10:45 pm: askes the guard for the weasel!
[Griffinkeeper] 10:45 pm: The guard gives Firearris the Weasel.
[Firearris] 10:46 pm: aquires the weasel and renames it "Cat"

Take that, Lumi.

^^ Exactly. Post a link to it so it can be tallied.

EDIT: Also, I don't think it's a matter of who would post in the forum so much as who would write for it. Even so, a lot of people can sign on saying they will, but in this case I think examples will go further than words. People can say the'd write for the forum... and then not post a thing. Thus, the links to horror stories already out there. If people are already writing enough horror stories to fill a forum and keep it active, then it makes sense to make one. Examples will go a lot further in this case. Promises are words, examples are proof of the words.

HA! When I was twelve and thirteen I used to write a lot of disturbing horror stories. They were extremely gory. People would have their heads crushed like melons, gore pouring from their shattered skulls, and... oh my, you get the idea, they were very graphic. :P

If I remember correctly, we used to have a horror section. But nobody used it after four months so it was removed.

In the meantime, just stick it in Other Fiction. :)

Rosey would be correct. It was Mystery / Horror, and no one posted either.

As I've said time and time again, show me a dozen works already posted that would fit in a Horror forum. If there's a demand, then that shouldn't be hard to do; you have 5 years of YWS history to choose from after all.

I would love a horror section. Sometimes I'm just in the mood to be freaked out. Also, I think if we created one, it would encourage people to write more horror. It can be a fun exercise in graphic description.

I agree with Jennafina-and besides, a horror section would be nice. I've recently gotten interested in the genre and would love to contribute to it if it was created. Besides, horror stories are extremely fun to read, and they would get me all the more motivated to review.

If you're having trouble finding a horror story refer here. I put it in a forum that seems to have the least activity. :) There should be a poll of which story forum users most frequently visit.

Yeah, I was thinking that if there was a horror/mystery fiction section, people would be compelled to write in it. I mean, how was it when YWS started... did each forum have 12 posts?? sorry to be rude, but really i wouldpost in the forum like, a lot..

Maybe a lot now, but the thing about specialized forums like that is the novelty wears off. I've seen groups acting like forum sections, but they get shut down eventually.

As for how YWs started, each forum with twelve posts, YWS has grown a lot from those early beginnings. But, as Nate said, show there are currently posted works that would fit in a horror section. Don't go on what people say they will or will not do in the future. Go by what has already been posted.

(Also, just a note, you can try reviving the Horror Usergroup to see how much of an interest there is)
