Zachaire "Jazz" Ackart - Practical Jokes - Telekinesis
C'mon, Jazz. You can make it...just turn this next corner, second door on the right. Ten seconds to go. Plenty of time.
I flew through the halls, accidentally bumping into the few stragglers still left trying to hurry to their next class in much the same way I was. One or two of them dropped the books and papers they had been holding, calling out after me with words that I chose to ignore and hurry on.
Ten more feet. Three seconds. Come on, come on!
The late bell rang and I slipped through the classroom door just as the high-pitched note ended. The teacher, who had already begun to hand out papers and directions to the other students, who had all gotten there on time I noticed since the only empty seat left was mine, glanced at me and then at the clock.
"Not late," I pointed out, taking my usual seat next to Claire Jhonson and behind Farrow Wood. The teacher handed me a sheet of paper about some meeting for our school next week. My mind began working on how to set up some of my infamous pranks and I effectively tuned out whatever instructions were being given out for the assignment that day.
"So, Zacharie," my teacher called, catching my attention for a moment. I looked up. "In step eight, are you going to combine mixture A with mixture B, or are you going to add two drops of hydrochloric acid to mixture C?"
It was a pretty well-known fact that most of the teachers in the school didn't particularly like me. I let my eyes slide carefully towards Claire, but she wasn't looking back and I realized I would get no help from her. Farrow, if I had to guess, was most likely lost in his own world, and probably wouldn't be able to offer me help either.
"None of the above?" I tried.
"Correct," the teacher said, eying me suspiciously before turning to address the rest of the class and finish her lecture.
"Nice save," Claire whispered, leaning over and grabbing the pencil that was floating a few inches above my desk. I rolled my eyes.
"No thanks to you, of course," I replied in a teasing tone. She punched me lightly in the arm and waved the pencil in front of my face.
"You should probably be more careful with your powers, you know. You're gonna get caught one of these days."
"By who? I doubt anyone would believe it even if they saw it."
"Mr. Ackart, obviously your conversation is much more important than my lecture, so I'll just wait until you're finished. Please, continue with what you were saying," the teacher growled, her ice blue eyes glaring straight into mine.
"Nah, it's alright. It's top secret, classified information that, if I shared with all you nice people in this room, would probably cause some form of government secret agents, or ninjas, to come flying through those windows over there. Which would 'cause an awful lot of broken glass, and someone might cut their foot, which would cause an awful lot of blood. Blood is pretty hard to get out of carpet, so I hear. So, to save the windows, someones foot, and the carpet, I'll just let you go ahead with what you were saying."
"Detention," was all she said before turning away again.
Perfect. Just what I needed.
