The Muses

Long ago, in Ancient Greece, the gods ruled high above the earth atop of Mount Olympus. Zeus, the king of the gods, one day found the beautiful Mnemosyne lounging on the earth and fell in love with her. Later, they had nine daughters: Calliope, Clio, Erato, Euterpe, Melpomene, Polyhymnia, Terpsichore, Thalia, and Urania, all of them later called the Muses.

The Plot

What I want you all to do is pick a Muse, and then write about her, except I want this written from when they would be teenagers. Write about adventures they might have gone on, suitors they may have fallen in love with or ran from, but most of all, I want you to portray the sisterly love between them.

There can be sex, but don't describe it, please.

No extreme language.

Artemis- the goddess of the hunt, young girls, and child birth

Aphrodite- the goddess of love

Dionysus- the god of wine and merriment

Hades- the god of the underworld

Zeus- the king of the gods

Isis- the Egyptian mother goddess

Hera- the goddess of wives and children and jealous wife of Zeus

Persephone- Goddess of the spring (though not yet Hades wife)

I know some stuff won't quite fit as well as one might like, and that's okay. Symbol: Scroll

Gender: female

Personality: Quiet, and she usually has her nose in a scroll. She loves to sit around and listen in on a lesson from a famous teacher, like Sophocles. She doesn't get angry very often, only when she's being pursued by the satyrs of the Forest where she and her sisters dwell. She also doesn't particularly like Apollo. She thinks he's arrogant.

History: She's the second youngest of her nine sisters. She's the child of Zeus and Mnemosyne. She loves her mother and doesn't really know her father. He sneaks away from Olympus to come and see them sometimes, but not very often. She and her sisters live in a big Forrest that has been home to them since they were born (she thinks it's to hide them away from Hera, her father's jealous wife). In this Forrest she also often runs into Artemis. She's a good friend of hers.

Favorite Past-time: Reading beneath a shady oak tree or on a rock by a grotto

Name: Melpomene

Gender:Female

Muse: Of Tragedy

Symbol: A tragic unhappy looking mask.

Personality:She has somewhat of a morbid sense of humour, doesn't laugh or smile very often but when she laughs or smiles it's usually sardonically. She doesn't like being a wall flower however and she is usually the wit of a conversation. She can be very moody and when she isn't feeling the greatest she gets harsh unnecessarily harsh and blunt. She is nice and a good conversationalist but you have to get through her hard outer shell first. She feels pain pretty intensely and for her, the world's pain is hers.

Appearance:Melpomene has long crazily curled hair that is so black it looks blue, pale but not unhealthily so complexion, she's tall and willowy and has very defining, sharp features. Her eyes are violet with a blue tint. She wears black all the time and dark but not thick eye make-up sometimes. You can usually tell when she's depressed when her eye makeup is darker and more pronounced. She wears long flowing black robes and concealed in her boots is a long knife.

History: She had sort of a troubled childhood. Since her emotions were always prone to randomly flare, she never had a good relationship with her parents. She turned to her sisters for the most help however, because of all people, they were the ones who knew what she was going through.

Favorite Past-time: She uses writing to release some of her feelings and enjoys writing dark, tragic plays and giving them to aspiring playwrights as inspiration. She also enjoys wandering around the mortal world and finding friends among people who face hardship and tragedy everyday.

Name:Calliope

Gender:Female

Symbol:Writing tablet

Personality:Calliope loves adventure and mystery and romance, but most of it lives in her imagination. She longs for some great adventure, but it never comes to her. She is dreamy and tends to get sidetracked, but is a very good moderator as she is very level-headed. She can sometimes come across as aloof, but that is only because she thinks of life as one big story. Her sisters come to her often for advice. She is proud of who she is.

History:She is proud to be the daughter of Zeus, and as the eldest of all her sisters, she sees him more often then most. Even so, she prefers the company of the other Muses than her father. He is too, well, godly for her. Calliope admits to being slightly intimidated by him.

Favorite Past-time:Writing tales of heroism and wonder. She often will get her sisters to comment and/or act her pieces out, but they are usually reluctant because Calliope often interrupts to scribble in a change.

Other:Up for love. Calliope will sometimes get far too deep in whatever she is writing, and will sometimes be over-dramatic.

Name: Artemis

Symbol:Silver bow and arrow

Personality: She could be sweet and loving but also very cold and unforgiving.She always expected perfection and punish with death to those who didn't meet up to her expectations.

Appearance:Artemis is a super sexy tomboy virgin goddess ,she could be very passionate and one person she loved very much was her mother Leto.

History:Artemis (as well as her twin brother, Apollo) was the daughter of the goddess Leto and Zeus.Artemis was a really good daughter, because when she was born, she saw her mother in pain, and helped Leto over to the straits between Ortygia and Delos. There, between an olive-tree and a date palm , Artemis played midwife as her brother Apollo was born.temis was a self-made goddess. As a child, she crawled into Daddy Zeus' lap and asked him to support her in her plan to be a huntress goddess and live in the mountains.Next stop? Bow and arrows! She got the Cyclops to make them for her, and they were silver and spectacular and they made her the counterpart of her archer brother. The only almost romance she had was with Orion, the hunter.

Name: Thalia
Gender: Female
Symbol: The comic mask and a wreath of ivy.

Personality: What you would expect form the goddess of comedy, go lucky and carefree. She really doesn't care what peple think as long as she gets laughs. She is the first to know when a joke has gone bad so she puts on a show about a new one. When she praises someone whoever, she really does mean it and most go to her when they need a "rep" of sorts built.
She likes parties.

Appearance: Wavy brown hair and dark brown eyes that seem to glisten with thoughts and ideas. Her voice has a melody like laugh and her smile is fun and welcoming. HEr skin is porcelien and soft to the touch.

History: The middle child of the muses.. not very close to her mother but keeps the company of Zeus often for he finds her interesting. She even made Hades grin once but likes to frolic in the country side.

Favorite Past-time: Making people laugh and acting. She likes to go about the country side most of the time.

Other: Apollo and her had a a child(later) so if we have an Apollo they could totally have a romance...

Personality:
She is Fun, Bubbly and up for anything. She loves to laugh, she has an enchanting laugh. Euterpe is maybe a little superficial, she wouldnt be a muse to ANYONE, although if there is someone special, she will stop at nothing for that person, whoever, or whatever rank he is. She trusts people easyly, and falls for ppl easyly too, which makes ppl take advantage of her. Her sisters often have to help her out of trouble. She enjoys masses of people, and partying with her friends.

History:
She doesnt realy have a history, she has never been like the good child or the bad. neither has she ever done anything realy bad. Though Euterpe is happy with her life, she is desperately seeking some turning point, something to make her life exciting. (I was thinking, maybe some sort of romance between her and a mortal)

Favorite Past-time:
She likes planning stuff for other ppl, like partys. She also likes to desighn and sow clothes.

Symbol: A child's handprint
Personality: Zeus' afair has left her jaded and bitter, although she tries to be a good wife to him. She sometimes visits Zeus' daughters, but it usually leaves her in a bad mood. She is prone to any romantic advance as she craves another's company. She has good days and she has bad days. Good days where she enjoys (and can keep up with) a witty conversation. Bad days where she is brooding and snappy. She can be a little sly and may do the wrong thing for the right reasons. Some say her presence is slightly intimiadting - especially Zeus' daughters.

With brown eyes.
History: Hera has been a member of the (godly) court all her life. She has enjoyed the drama and romance of it all. She had an older sister Zeus courted, but her sister did not like his attentions. So Hera made sure she was around to catch his eye. She did love all the attention she recieved once his affections changed. Since Zeus met Mnemosyne, Hera has grown increasingly insecure.
Favorite Past-time: She likes to lounge about and muse about many things. She enjoys the company of other gods, and her loyal slave, Keritan.
Other: She is up for a little love or passion. Or a special friend among the gods or the muses.

Symbol: A rose and a dove

Personality: She is one of the happiest Goddesses. And one of the most loved. She is extremely beautiful and she knows it. Few men can resist her and that makes her self-confidant and many times just cocky.

Favorite past time: Likes to strike the most unknowing and unwilling two people with a strong passionate love. Also she enjoyes animals and spends a lot of her time with them. Especially doves and dolphins.
