"Hey! Hey! This is Erome! Subject H62! Is anybody there?" Erome slammed her fist against the door again and again, but it was a tired effort. She felt she had been there for hours, but she didn't know for sure; there was no clock in this tiny excuse for a room. "Jesus - anyone there? Hey! Hello?"
Giving up was something Erome never let herself do, but on this occasion she needed a few minutes to rest and gather her strength. Her powers were useless in this room. There was no way a thunderstorm would fit in it.
She growled to herself as she sunk down to the floor, her back against the door.
This certainly taught her to stop crying over the past. Keep looking ahead, look back and you'll trip up. This was certainly a major trip. If she was rescued - curse the word - the other guards would chuckle over it for ages. Little snickers behind her back. The other guards didn't like her; they feared her. She was ruthless and not afraid to rake them over the coals for the smallest mistake.
The smallest mistake could cost them dearly.
The guards thought the prisoners were like cattle. Dumb animals that stared at them numbly. Erome knew what they really were. Erome knew they were surely plotting behind that mask of defeat.
Erome felt faint. She sleepily raised her hand to her forehead and was startled to find she was sweating. Was it her or was it getting hotter in this room?
She had to get out of here.
She turned back to the door, too tired to stand, and pounded on the cool steel. Was it her or was it warmer than when she'd first hit it?
"Hey! Hey!"
