Ada Graves

The assembly started quickly. Professor Starling, the one who promised to cure us, opened the assembly with a welcome to all the new arrivals. He then began calling long time residents to talk about themselves. Too bad my name is right near the top of the list. It was soon my turn.

"5937, please come forward." Starling called my number.

I stood slowly and walked to the front of the auditorium. I took my place next to the podium Starling stood at.

"5937 is one of our long time residents, she's been here most of her life." he explained. "She is one of our calmest, happiest, and all around most pleasurable resident. She is a fine example for all of you new arrivals to follow." He turned to me and smiled, I gave him a sweet smile in return. "5937, tell us about your goals for yourself this year."

"My goals are to enjoy my life here at the Asylum to the best of my ability until I am able to be cured and sent back into the world." it was the generic answer, the easy answer.

"Very good," he said. "You should all try to be like 5937." He turned back to me, "You may sit now."

I went and sat back with Cappy, Ephraim, and Marley while Professor Starling called another number.

"Do you really think like that?" Ephraim whispered to me when I had taken my seat.

"There's no use in feeling any other way." I told him. And there really wasn't.

*I'll bring Matthis in

Cappy~

"Of course there is." I argued. "If we all belive like that then were no better than them." I glared at the stage as they continued.

"So what do we belive?" a voice asked behinde me. I turned around to see a boy there, I think his real name was Matthis he was looking at me excpacting an answer that I wasn't really sure of myself.

"Well they can't make us normal. Thes is no such thing." I shrugged.

"Now I'm lost." Ephirem said.

"Well even if we were regular people with no powers we would still have to be judge in groups, you preps goths." i paused thinking for a moment. "Them making us 'normal' won't change anything, besides I kind of like blowing things up." I smirked.

Right as I stoped talking the professer voice boomed. "We have found a cure!"

Right as he said that most of the prisonar rushed to the stage besides me and a few others.

"It proabley posion." Matthis hissed.

My head was still spinning.

This professor starling was weird, but the kids here seemed nice.

I smiled, but my face fell, when my number was called.

I didn't respond at first.

Ada and Cappy dig their elbows into my ribs at the same second.

"Would you PLEASE get up here..." the professor demanded.

I got up, walked towards the freaky guy.

"This is (OMG I forgot my number). He is new. Tell us about yourself."

"Uhm... Yeah... I'm Ephra..."

I was cut short by the prof. "Your name is of no concern whatsoever. What will you do with your live?"

"Well... I don't really know. I want to live up to your expectations, so I am capable of being under humans again." I smirked.

He didn't seem to notice though. "Now that is a nice attitude. Just been here for a very short time, but already knows what is expected of him. Sit down again PLEASE."

I walked to my chair.

"Your good." Cappy smiled.

I smiled back.

Matthias--

I laughed at her response and listened to the professors speech about a 'cure'.

Sure he could block your mind from thinking about something, and thus using your power, but the only to stop someone from using their muscles was with a sedative, meaning the cure was useless for me. Which coincidentally meant that I had enough tranquilizer in me to knock out an elephant.

"Its probably poison anyway." I muttered before turning to leave.

A guard stepped in my way, "Where do you think your going?"

"Bathroom."

He stood in my way for a second then I pushed myself up close, so that only he would hear what I had to say, "If you don't get out of my way, I'll make your head explode. I haven't eaten in five days, and I'm feeling quite capable with my powers."

His face went deathly pale and he ran to one of the other guards who started laughing, "He can't make your head explode, even if he could use his powers."

I grinned and stepped into the hallway, taking the right towards the bathroom. I may hate this place, but I never said I wouldn't make life hell for some of the guards.

"0636 please step forward." I stood up and marched angrily on to the stage.
"What do you plan to do during your time here?"
"I am going to get the hell out of here!" I yelled in his face. I turned to the others. "We are people! They have no right to do this to us! We don't need a cure. We don't have a disease. Were not ill. Were special! Now whos with me?" There were a few cheers across the hall and i prepared myself for another tirade. Suddenly a striking pain shot up my leg from the band and dropped me. I lay face down and the stage spasming until a guard dragged me into the crowd and threw me down.
I have looked into the eye of the storm and stared it down. I am an adrenaline junky and i know no fear.

Erome watched the rabble before her with a strong feeling of disgust.

There was no order, no discipline. Even herds of animals were smarter than them. She watched them break apart; some slipping quietly away, some having to be electrocuted. Chaos! Utter chaos.

She had never liked Kevin Maxwell. Seeing him flinch from an overly confident prisoner, she knew she had been right to dislike him.

What the hell? He was running from him. Running from a prisoner! It was all she could do just to stay in one place. Her fingers twitched, her body tensed, but she fought off the urge to storm over there and let him know who was in charge here. Damn it, Maxwell! Damn it!

Well, at least this show was now over. It had been sickening to see the prisoners smile sweetly at Starling and answer his questions with words they didn't believe at all.

How nice it had been to see Starling get a dose of what these animals were really like. How perfect for Starling to realise he wasn't running some pathetic little petting park. No, he was in uncharted territory, roamed not by little bunnies but by angry lions. Everyone knew caged beasts were the most dangerous. Furious, they would do anything to escape. They would do anything just to taste some of their long lost freedom.

Erome let her gaze move across the departing audience and saw that desire in their sly faces. Even the frightened ones, huddled together in their groups, betrayed that same longing as they flicked contemptuous looks at the ruffled Starling.

She watched him with a smirk on her face.

Any moment now he would give the hunters the order to...

"Guards - please take these people back to their rooms. Give them a chance to ... recover from the shock of the news a cure has been found."

Whatever, jerk.

She saw Maxwell dragging a prisoner out by his armpits. It was the one who'd shouted in Starling's face earlier. She smiled and made her way over to them.

"Maxwell, I'll take him to the nurse while you go to the toilet," she said coolly even though she watched him with a hawk's eye.

He hoisted the prisoner upright and wiped and arm across his pale, sweaty forehead.

"Why?"

" 'Cause you look like you're gonna pee your pants, moron. What the hell were you doing! Running from a prisoner! Jesus, Maxwell!"

He got defensive. "You shoulda seen the size of him! Christ, he threatened to make my head explode!"

She snorted in disgust and reached out to take the barely conscious prisoner from him. "What next? You gonna say one of the little girls whacked you?"

He scowled. "Actually, yeah. She did. 5628. I mean Aylen. Christ."

"Shape up, Maxwell! Damrel is gonna hear about this."

And with that Erome stormed away, dragging the waking prisoner behind her.

Ada Graves

As the commotion broke out in the assembly I stayed in my seat, trying not to get caught up in anything. It was better to just ignore it, to just go with what the guards said. There was never any use fighting back.

"5937!" a guard barked at me.

I looked at him and smiled. "Yes?"

"Time to go back to your room." he grabbed me roughly by the arm and started dragging me along with him.

I stood the guards rough handling until I got to my room. He practically threw me through the door. The door slammed shut and I laid down on my bed. I wasn't tired, it wasn't even dark outside. The little window on the wall across from my bed still let light filter in past the thick steel bars.

Loud noises kept up in the hallway for nearly an hour as the guards wrestled some of the more...spirited residents into their rooms. They shouldn't struggle. I thought. They need to realise that there is never any chance to fight back here. It's no use to try.

A guard lifted me bodily off the ground and began walking toward the door. He was intercepted and i was dragged away in a daze by a woman. It had felt good to get back at Starling. Cure!? Who the hell did he think he was? We aren't diseased. We are people. With lives and families. What gives him the right to capture and cage us? Perhaps this woman understood. Then again, maybe not.

A guard grabbed my shoulder roughly and led me back to my room. He pushed me inside roughly.
Now that I knew what kind of place this was, my room didn't seem OK anymore. I felt as if i were in prison.
I sat down on my bed and thought of home. Especially of my baby sister. Did they know she also was gifted. I prayed that they didn't.
The door opened, and a tray was pushed in. The food on it looked good, but I didn't want to eat. My throat was dry, so I took a sip of the water. Instantly my head felt dizzy. Something was slipping away from me.
I got up. Id ask Ada about this.

I sat on my bed and picked at the food on my tray. None of it looked appealing, I knew what was in it. Eventually I just pushed it away and went to my window.

It was a nice evening. The sun was beginning to set and cast an orange and pink glow over the Asylum.

Loud thuds came from the room above mine, similar to those in the lounge I had been in earlier. It had been on this floor too. I contemplated what could be happening above me. There weren't any resident rooms up there, I was on the top floor of resident rooms. A cloud of dust filtered down on my plate of food as another thud hit against the ceiling.

"Weird." I said.

Before I could contemplate it anymore, a knock came on my door. That's weird.

"Who is there?" I asked.

"Ada, it's Ephraim." Ephraim's voice called from the other side of the steel plated door.

I walked up close to the door so I wouldn't have to yell anymore. "What are you doing out of your room? How'd you even get out of your room?"

"I just walked out." he said as if there was nothing strange about it.

"Aren't the doors locked?" I asked.

The door knob turned and Ephraim opened the door and slipped into my room. "Nope." he said.

"What are you doing here?" I asked. "You're going to get in trouble."

Cappy~

When the crazy kid got on the stage and started to shout about escaping I felt a small glimer of hope maybe we could escape! Then he was shot with a dart and draged off. This sucked we were being draged off to are rooms like some type of animal!

I looked around the corrner to see this lady draging the crazy dude down a hall. I looked up at the gaurd that was pulling me along as we walked by a staircase I manage to throw him off balnce and pushed him down the stairs.

He tumbled down with loud thuds I gulped as I saw him lay motionless. Did I kill him? He began to groan and move, I let out a sigh of relief as I ran off towards the girl direction. I wasn't sure what to do I wanted to try and escape and the only way apprentley was by following that guy. I queitly followed them around trying to find out how to distract her, to get that guy. . .what every his name was away from her.

Dark thoughts clouded Erome's mind like descending thunderstorms. What was she doing? Why had she decided to play Chauffeur and take this prisoner to the nurse? She should've let Maxwell take him. She was pretty sure Maxwell could handle an unconscious prisoner. Who was he running from back there? Jesus, she dreaded to think.

Suddenly the prisoner moved. Erone whipped her head back to see he disentangling himself from her arms.

"I can walk, thanks," he said gruffly.

Erome wasn't too sure. He didn't look too steady on his feet. But she wasn't going to forfeit her role as chauffeur to play nurse. So she turned back around and marched ahead. The sound of her shoes slapping against the floor was satisfying for some strange reason. The sound was steady, unfailing.

Like hell she was gonna play nurse.

"Where are you taking me?" he asked, hurrying to catch up.

"Nurse," she replied curtly. "Check you're not too fried."
