Okay, back. :D

Anshul, Serpent King

"I will ask you one last time, dwarf," I hissed, my splinter like teeth clicking together as the words tore through the deathly silent night. "Your grandfather knew the position of the stone. Tell me where it is.
The old dwarf hung suspended in the air, being held by the throat by magic alone. The forest plants at my feet slowly began to wilt and blacken as my mood darkened into an almost rage.
Purple faced and gasping, he wheezed back at me, his voice full of defiance, "I will never tell."
My teeth came together with a loud snap, as my cold white fists clenched at my side. The dwarf began to choke and struggle even more, his legs kicking freely as the magic grip around his throat tightened. Undiluted rage coursed through my veins as his eyes flited towards his village, probably fearing that I kill his family and friends. It would be undoubted that I would, regardless of what he told me.
"Then I am afraid you are of no use to me my friend," I chuckled, tilting my head and observing him with crimson irises. "Maybe your wife or children can tell me more."
With a flick of my wrist, the magic released him as he fell screaming and kicking to the floor, begging and pleading for his families lives.
With a hiss I morphed into my basilisk form, my pale skin becoming cobbled with grey scales.
With a screech, I struck him with one bite, leaving two punctures in his chest. The action was so quick it took him ten seconds of my cold glare for him to realise that he had been bitten. I left him in a whimpering, bloody heap to die, moving on to the dwarves in the village, the grass at my feet dying with every step I took.
I will find the stone. And if every dwarf in this village need die before I find it, then so be it.

Altu

I stirred slightly, raising my multicoloured beak up to the inky dark sky and stretching out a stiff wing. My thick tail twitched as the sound of voices came to my ears, not far from where I was sleeping, beneeth an aging pine.
The wind whispered through the forest trees, ushering me to wake as I stood on all fours, having a luxurious stretch before giving my great head a shake.
Yes, the voices where definately there.
I cocked my head to the side, listening intently. I managed to catch a few words, 'stone' and 'attack.'
My sea hued mane rose up a little in alarm, as I frowned slightly. If it was the stone I was thinking of, there could be trouble. It was a dangerous and powerful weapon from what I had gathered, to be respected and not to be tampered with.
With a growl, I trotted through the trees towards the eerie torch light, swishing my thick green tail and flapping my wings, preparing to face the strangers and demand why they spoke of the stone.

*I was thinking the people who Altu thinks are the 'strangers' could be a few of the rebels traveling to a meeting or something? :P*

*Black dragons are unique among the dragon tribes, in that they change colour as they age, they start a silvery white, as their Chaos magic grows stronger the scales turn black. So Tribe's is half silver half black in dragon form.

Ain (Tribe)-

3 hours earlier

The sun was setting on the palace as Tribe flew in, obsidian scales glittered like dark rainbows in the light of the sun. Flaring his wings he shifted on the fly, landing on the balcony as a human. Sighing he strode throuh the open doors chucking his sheathed sword on the bed.

"Enjoying the sunset Ain?" Swearing he whirled around, hands morphing into dragons claws, when he saw that King leaning against the fire place he relaxed, letting the talons return to normal.

Snarling, Tribe stripped off his gauntlets, tossing them over his shoulder. "What do you want now? And don't say to chat, we never just talk."

The King sipped his wine before speaking, sarcasm thick in his voice. "You know Ain, the oddest thing happened today. One of the army captain's returned from a mission to wipe out a suspected rebel village, he says the town was deserted by the time they got there. They questioned a woodsman, and he says a black dragon flew to the village, and warned them."

"Must have been somebody else." Tribe shrugged, and sat down on the bed.

"Don't play games with me!" The King shouted, he tossed the goblet across the room where it shattered against the wall. "You and I both know, there are no other black dragons!"

Tribe watched the King rant, his cold ice blue eyes never moving from the King's face. "Thus far, I've tolerated your little rebellions Ain. But push me too far, and you know who will pay the price."

"I don't even know if the curse you claim is on my brother is real."

"That's true." He smiled cruelly. "But are you really willing to risk your life and Jaspis' on the off chance that I'm lying? After your brothers escape, I took precautions. Unlike our dearly departed General, you are not expendable. I would never simply kill you, just strip you of your free will. So remember who holds your leash, that tattoo around you neck is a curse more binding then chains."

Baring his fangs, Tribe snarled. "Yes master."

"Good. Our spies claim some rebels are meeting in the mountains to the south tonight. Go there, learn who they are and what there goal is, and then report back. No escapades, no coincedental mistakes, and no warning them. Is that understood?"

"As you command, master." Glaring he snatched up my sword and walked out onto the balcony. For a minute Tribe stood there savoring the moment. Then he jumped, long black hair whipping behind him, just before he hit the ground black light flashed around him and the dragon shot up into the sky. Turning he angled towards the mountains.

***

He landed silently on the mountain peak, below lay a verdant meadow, there were cliffs on one side and it was surrounded by forest on the others, as night fell Tribe settled in for a long wait, using chaos to shroud his prescence he remained in dragon form. Just in case.

*The reason Tribe hates his name, is because Ain is short for Ainideyll, meaning 'bound to serve' the name given to him by the King, hence the reason for the nickname. One other thing Arya? What is the King's name, and does Jaspis know his brother exists?*

Rachel-

"Rachel?" I turned around and saw Luna looking at me through the torch.

"Yeah Luna?"

"Do you sense something?"

I looked at her oddly. "No. Why, do you fear something?"

"Dragons don't fear. We are just aware."

"Ssh," Jaspis hissed. I rolled my eyes and we continued moving through the woods. Our latest source said that he saw something odd here. It might've been the stone. Luck was that the place where the guy saw something wierd was close to where the meeting was tonight..

"I'm telling you Jaspis, I think something is wrong," Luna whispered loudly.

"What could possibly-"

Suddenly a giant creature with large wings and horrible eyes ran out and reared back at us. Luna fell with the torch and Jaspis and I stepped back.

"It would be nice to have some dragons now!" I shouted and pulled out my bow.
"Oh please don't tell me you're archaeologists."

"Do you have a problem with archaeologists?"

"I'm a time traveler. I laugh at archaeologists."

*sylverdawn: I still didn't have a good idea for the name. If someone does: PM me...
And I think it would be interesting that Jaspis doesn't know and in some weird way he finds out or they meet or something.*

Jaspis

I changed to my dragon form and spit some water at the newcomer.

I stopped.

"Altu?"

"Jaspis?"

"Yeah!" I said smiling.

"I almost didn't recognize you as a human. wow. Long time no see." Altu replied.

We both shifted to human form.

You could see Luna and Rachel were startled.

They probably were wondering, from where I knew people like this.

In fact I had met Altu a long time ago when I roamed the worlds.

We had become friends and travelled together for a while.

*Moo: thought it would be interesting for them to know each other.

sylverdawn wrote:His element also has an unhappy side effect. Chaos is drawn to him, impossible things happen in his prescence, like say someone in the room with him chokes to death on a feather, or a kid falls twenty stories and walks away without a scratch.

Wherever he goes he leaves a trail of confused and baffled people in his wake. Tribe once spent the weekend in a village inn. That weekend every unmarried person in the village up and got hitched.

Rachel-

"Who's your friend?" I asked. Altu gave a deep overdramatic bow and smiled.

"Altu at you service ma'am. I take it since you are with Jaspis that you can be trusted?"

A little bold. "Um, can you be trusted?" I countered nervously. Those eyes were... I don't know how to describe them. In the deep crevices of my mind, I'm pretty sure I had seen eyes like his.

"What are you staring at?" he asked.

I snapped out of my daze. "Nothing." Luna looked at me wierd and then turned and stuck out her hand.

"My name's Luna."

"A pleasure," he said and shook her hand. Altu then turned to Jaspis and tilted his head.

"So what are you all doing roaming the woods at night?" he asked suspiciously.

"We're on our way to a meeting," said Jaspis.

"Meeting? Hm... sounds interesting. What are you all going to talk about?"

Jaspis looked at Luna and I and then back at Altu. Altu laughed and slapped Jaspis' shoulder like an old friend would. "You might as well tell me. Only reason I attacked was because I heard something about the stone."

My eyes widened. He knew about the stone? How?

"Were you trying to keep it away from us to protect it, or were you trying to get it yourself?" Jaspis asked. Altu frowned.

"I doubt I could get it since it's not here."

"I told you so," said Luna.

"Well, if it's not here then we might as well go to the meeting now," said Jaspis. I slung my bow over my shoulder when Luna looked back at Altu.

"You can come if you like," she said cheerily. Great...

Yeah that's great arya :D:D Good luck on your exam :)

Altu

I grinned at Jaspis, happy to see him after so long. After not hearing a human voice for months it felt good to be talking with others like myself.
Luna turned to me with a smile. You can come if you like," she said cheerily.
I heard a sigh and I observed the girl Rachel with a slight frown. As soon as my eyes made contact with hers, she flinched as if my gaze burns. Ironic really; my gaze could do much more than burn if I wanted it to.
"So are you all like... a rebellion against the crown?" I asked as we began to walk.
"It's the only way to rid the kingdom of our 'ruler," Luna sighed a little irritatedly, making quote marks in the air with her fingers and rolling her eyes in a such a way that I couldn't help but laugh.
"Well... I'm not up to much these days. Need any help?" I offered with a little offhand shrug.
"Altu, that would be awesome," Jaspis grinned, clapping me on the shoulder.
"Not a problem," I said with a wink.
Rachel said nothing, avoiding my gaze the whole time.
"So why all the urgency? Why now?" I asked.
"There was a mass slaughter not long ago, in a village of dwarves," Jaspis began, as Luna shuddered at the thought. "They say it was the...."
"The...?" I prompted.
"Serpent King," Luna whispered, and a shiver of loathing tickled my spine at the name.
"We think he's looking for the stone," Rachel mumbled, the first she had spoken, again, avoiding my eyes.
I began to feel a little uncomfortable. Being stared at was common if you where a half breed like myself, but it didn't mean that I could ignore it. I held in a growl, a frown spreading over my forehead.

Wow! This started off so fast! ;)

Aria-

I ducked in the bushes and watched the boar hungrily. Karma watched me from a distance and blinked, giving me the 'signal'. I touched the long tattoo on my leg and it began to glow. In an instant, my senses flourished at a mind-boggling speed and I dropped low to the ground. My tri-colored tail flicked gently back and forth as I continued to watch the swine. I looked at Karma and also blinked. She nodded quickly and we both dashed out of the bushes, aided by some of our pack. We surrounded the creature and took it down without any trouble at all. When we were sure it was dead, I morphed back and lifted the pig onto my shoulders.

"Shall we?" I asked, gesturing towards our den.

Karma looked up at me and smiled, her long pink tongue dangling from her mouth. 'Indeed,' she replied.

I smiled and began to walk back. My pack mates howled triumphantly, alerting the rest of the pack that we had food and that we were returning.
***
After a good meal, I laid against a giant tree root with Karma's head in my lap and I stroked it gently as we talked.

"Karma?" I asked her.

'Yes, Aria? What is it?'

"What are people like?"

'People?' She asked curiously.

"Yes, people," I replied. "I don't remember anything about them, but I know you've had numerous encounters with them. What are they like?"

She scowled angrily. 'Just a bunch of hunters and murderers, the whole lot of them," she told me. "They hunt us for their enjoyment, so they can make clothes out of us and hang us on their walls like trophies.' I fiddled nervoulsy with my own red robes. 'We are not objects. We are all creatures, living not-so-harmoniously on this one planet. The least they could do is show us a little respect. Don't bother mingling with people. They're scum.'

I frowned. People didn't seem that bad. But Karma knew a lot more about them than I did, so I took her word for it, much as I didn't want to. I leaned against the tree and closed my eyes, my hand taking on a life of its own and stroking Karma's head without stopping, but sub-consciously for me. I sighed and relaxed completely. Until, that is, I heard people talking way off in the distance. I sat up and listened.

"Karma. Do you hear that?"

She sighed. 'Of course I do, Aria. My hearing's better than yours.'

"Right..." I said, a tad bit shamefully. "Should we go check it out?" I asked, a hint of excitement in my voice, and a load of adventure in my mind.

Karma's head shot up. 'Absolutely not!' She cried. 'Aria, they're just people. It doesn't matter, I can assure you.'

I stared at her. "Well, I want to see what they're up to. Come or stay if you'd like, it doesn't matter to me."

She stared at me, a little shocked. 'You honestly believe I'd let you run off alone somewhere, without me?'

"Karma, please," I told her, a tad bit annoyed. "You're fourteen years younger than I am. I'm perfectly capable of taking care of myself without your input."

'In human years, yes, but in dog, years, I'm sixteen years older than you are. Don't think you know everything about the forest just yet. Besides, I'm tired of doing the same thing day in and day out. I'd like a little adventure too,' she told me with a mischievous smile.

I smiled back and took off through the trees towards the source of the talking. My wolven reflexes and speed helped me move with grace and agility through the many trees. When we got to a narrow dirt road, I leaped up a tree and looked down. Karma stayed on the ground and hid behind some bushes. A small group of people passed below me. They would've gone by without noticing me, but my foot slipped and rattled some branches, knocking leaves off of them. The group looked up quickly and spotted me.

Anshul, Serpent King

*some time later, after the village killings*

I glowered at the silhouette of the king, slumped in his throne and sipping on a glass of wine every few seconds. The shattered goblet lay scattered across the floor to the wall opposite.

I stepped out of the icy shadows of the doorway with a grin, as Feyrr, my snake servant, slithered forward, tasting the air with a flick of a forked tongue.

"Anshul." The King's words echoed emptily on the dark room, acknowledging my presence without turning.

My upper lip twitched once, revealing rows of silvery fangs. "Greetings once more."
The King stood, approaching me with his back ram rod straight and his chest puffed out. Some attempt to make himself bigger, I suspected...

"What brings you here?" he sneered, leaning forward and scrunching up his nose, as if I was some sort of particularly repellent peasant.

My jaw tensed, and Feyrr seemed to sense my flaring fury levels. He raised himself up, his thick mossy coils pushing his slender body up to eye level with the king. He spat a savage hiss at at the King, who faltered and stumbled back, throwing an arm across his eyes in fear that Feyrr would spit at him.

I nodded, and the massive serpent settled again, coiling up in the floor, his flickering tongue dancing out of his mouth every few seconds. My rage began to ebb and replaced itself with humour at the king's terrified features.

I grinned in dark mirth, as the King stared back at me, trying desperately to hide the fear in his eyes.

"Are you scared of me, your highness?" I crooned through the soft clicking of my fangs, tilting my head and regarding him with blood hued eyes. I tilted my head back and inhaled deeply, the sharp, delicious scent of fear filling my nostrils as I sighed. "For you are surrounded with the scent of fear."

His eyes narrowed as his arm dropped to his side once more. He walked around his desk and sat again, facing me and clasping his hands upon the wooden desk. "What are you here for?" he said in a more polite tone, causing my malignant grin to widen.

"You treat your servant badly, my friend. Maybe he could do with a new master," I mused, leaning forward and rapping my pointed finger nails on the desk, watching him flinch with every movement.

"What do you want with Ain?" he spat, attempting to make me back away with the force of his voice, but I did not move.

"I am looking for someone and something, without much success. I have a feeling, that if I find that someone, he could lead me to that certain thing. Dwarves are resiliant little things, you see. Killing them seems to have no affect on their peers, as they deny of having any knowledge of the stone."

"You are disgusting," the king spat, instantly regretting it. I bared my fangs, as Feyrr hissed softly from the floor, raising his head and resting it on the desk. I resisted the sudden urge to pound the little man into the floor with magic alone.

"As I was saying... the rebellion will not trust one of my servants to act as a spy. Ain could help."

"He will never serve you. I have a spell upon him."

I threw back my head in a malicious laugh, as Feyrr joined in with a throaty hiss. "My dear friend," I chuckled, wiping a tear of mirth from my eye. "I can do anything I want. Your 'spell' is nothing against my power."

The king snorted, not convinced. With a wicked grin, I tilted my head, and blinked once. Blood began to trickle down the king's nose.

"Tissue?" I offered, plucking one from the box on the desk. He shook his head, covering his nose with his mouth as the flow increased.

"Stop it."

"I am doing nothing."

"Please," he begged, "I'll give you anything, stop the bleeding."

"Very well." I blinked, as the bleeding stopped. He glared at we with such loathing, that I almost felt proud of myself. "A compromise then. I will go to Ain, and ask him if he wishes to join me. If he declines, then I shall go and look for my son myself. He shall lead me to the stone, unsuspectingly." I chuckled at my own brilliance, morphing into the great pale basilisk with a low hiss, slithering down the halls with Feyrr not far behind.

*hope this is okay...*

Rachel-

I quickly unslung my bow and had an arrow pointing at the trees. Altu, Jaspis, and Luna all shifted into their various creatures and focused on the tree.

"Who is it?" I asked.

"Lower your weapons, I mean you no harm," it called. It sounded like a girl.

A shadow jumped down from the tree, but it didn't come out. There were snarls from a bush and whispers. That was one of my pet peeves. Whispering when I couldn't see someone was not too good.

"Show yourself," Jaspis demanded. No one or nothing came out. Luna rolled her eyes.

"Please?"

There were more whispers and a girl finally came out from behind the bushes. She was the wildest wolf-like human I had ever seen. Behind her was a wolf with flaming eyes.

"Who are you?"
"Oh please don't tell me you're archaeologists."

*Hurry up and reach the meeting site. My character will get bored. *

Ain(Tribe)-

Time passed, tired of crouching on the mountain in dragon form, he had shifted back to human. Lying down, Tribe stared up at the sky, above clouds obscured the stars, turning the sky a velvet black. The sharp tang of rain carried the promise of a coming storm. Ghost lightning flickered in the clouds, mesmerized Tribe watched the dance, his eyes finding the strands of chaos, threaded through the gathering storm.

In Tribe's opinion there was nothing so beautiful as the gathering chaos, the most seductive element of them all. He was so absorbed in watching the sky he almost missed the acrid scent on the breeze. Jumping up, he drew his sword and crouched waiting for the attack. Flames of Chaos licked up the blades surface and wrapped aroung his arms.

Dispassionately, he watched as the basilisk walk up to him on the cliff. Creepy was an understatement. Tribe thought, there was just something about Anshul that scared people on a visceral level. The snake king glanced down at the deserted meadow below. "So this is where the rebels are meeting?"

Snarling, Tribe slammed his sword back into the scabbard. "That fool King needs to learn to keep his mouth shut. What do you want Anshul?"

Laughing malisciously the basilisk shook his head. "You know Tribe, your'e probably the only person I tolerate such disrespect from. Mainly because I don't want a tornado following me around for months on end."

"You know about that?"

"I'm six thousand years old. I've met black dragons before you Tribe. It's why your kind are so rare, you were hunted to the point of extinction. Which brings me to why I'm here, I'd like your, help, infiltrating those rebels."

He seemed as if it didn't matter, but Tribe wasn't stupid, he didn't dare let down his guard. "You're after the stone aren't you? I could keep it from you, save the world."

"But you won't." There was absolute confidence in Anshul's voice. "After all, what has the world ever done for you? Left you to rot in a living hell, your brother doesn't even know you exist. That, and your eyes are starting to turn red."

Tribe blinked in surprise at that comment, but Anshul continued to speak. "Chaos is an element that exists to consume, it calls to its servants more then any other element, and it will eventually strip you of your humanity. You and I are more alike then you care to think."

"I am nothing like you." He spoke bitterly.

"Tribe, you are not an idiot. You see the paralells just like I do. The only thing that stops you from crossing that line is your brother. But eventually that won't be enough. Think about it, a hundred years ago you wouldn't have dreamed of ratting these rebels out. Give you another five hundred years, and who knows where you'll be. You're exactly like I was when I was younger."

The snake king stood and started walking away tossing one last comment over his shoulder he vanished into the darkness. "I'll be back tomorrow night for your answer."

Disturbed by Anshul's comments Tribe returned his attention to the woods, in the distance he spotted flickers of torchlight, the rebels were getting close. Unconsciously he reached up fingering the golden chain around his neck. Anguished, Tribe spoke softly to the night air. "What should I do Kaoli? Tell me. Where do I go from here?"

Zao

"There are strangers about..." The wind whispered to him, "They talk of the stone."

Zao had been sitting cross-legged without moving for two and a half days now, seeking guidance from the air. Now, he had his direction. He unfolded himself slowly and stood up. Strangely, despite not having moved for a long, long time, their was no pop in his joints, no tightness in his muscles. Such was the extent of Zao's harmony with his body.

"Which way?" He asked the wind, squinting a little, eyes trying to pierce through the fog around him.

Rather than answering with words, the fog to one side of him cleared away, offering him a kind of tunnel down the side of the mountain. "Here, we shall take you to their speaking spot. But walk slowly, you do not want to arrive early. Other strangers wait there. But they shall not see you coming."

Zao smiled to himself, he was lucky to have the wind as a friend. Without it, he would likely be long dead. He started slowly but surely down his path, undetectable but any sense but the most heightened supernatural ones, and even then he would be impossible to catch.
