I both love and hate emo. I really like the sound of the music- which, by the way, is nowhere close to screaming- but when I actually think about the words and everything, I want to laugh. I also find it funny when I actually conciously think about how old Emo singers are. Listening to their music, you'd never put them above maybe 19 years old. But some of them are probably in their thirties or even older than that. It's like the Peter Pan complex, except that it came too late lol.

...That's nice to know Nate.

...I love my eyeliner and dark colours - You'd never see me in pink with a short skirt listening to rap and soul and pop music. But you won't ever see me in very baggy clothes all in black with thousands of piercings, listening to heavy metal.

Their ability to not realise their place in life, doesn't mean you can point fingers at them and laugh. The brain is an emotional ball of complexity and confusion. None of you have any right to say what IS right to do and not to do. I hope just, that you all are speaking out of the kindness in your hearts, and too realise how 'plastic' the mind really is. Opinions are accepted, I just hope those opinions have a reason. No. I'm not emo; didn't know what it ment at first. Teenagers strive for the individuality in freedom and open-mind; I see none of that here from all of your responses. Step before you grab...

What exactly is emo?

And why must everybody be stereotyped? Apparently I am a greb (black nail polish, band t-shirts, into rock-Korn, Linkin Park, My Chemical Romance, Muse, etc etc) and if I am, then I am proud to be one. If I am goth or emo, I'm proud to be that, too.
Matt.

'Emo' formerly 'goth' kids usually fall in the years of adolescent and teen depression. Black clothing and overly dramatic poetry are commonplace, as well as is music that supports their generall melaze of a mood. Not everybody experiences teen depression, but it is a natrual chemical imballance as a result of puberty that the body works itself out of. The other possibility is that a teen is trying to fit in with a trend, and is not necesarily experiencing the same depression that others are. Adolescent or teen depression occurs in about 50 percent of adolescents.

*blinks* well... this is a... erm... interesting topic...

I don't agree with the mindset of "no one understands", but we all do that at some time in our lives. But as a one of my favorite songs says "the greatest lie you've been told is that you're the only one to walk down this road."

Yes, that is a very correct song. Superchick right?

i am considered "emo" by some ppl only because they think it's just about kids who cry a lot and cut themselves
i think ppl hate emo because of what the media has made it
so yeah now i get offended if someone says i'm emo but if you would have called me that before i wouldn't really think twice

I don't listen to screaming into a microphone. (Bought BYOB 'cause of the 'everybody's goin' to the party' part, which is awesome.) I don't listen to pop, rap, the likes.

I do wear pink...but only sometimes...:P

So stereotypically, I'm semi-emo, but not really.

Goths are still here, mixed with emo, explain that to me please.
You shouldn't judge a book by it's cover, instead, you should read every single book to see what every book is about before you even come close to judging its viability.

Goths stay to themselves. If you see a group of kids dressed in black, you can bet they're emo. At least it's that way around here.

I wear khaki slacks, polo shirts, and tennis shoes every day.

What does that make me?

Oh I remember! A geek at a private school! Okay, just had to clear that up. :P
