Gatian
Latanya’s offer for archery lessons came as as much of a surprise as Jinx’s outright request for a fight. Of course, he’d sensed some kind of excitement in Jinx, and had initially taken it to be at acceptance, but really, she was just spoiling for a fight. There was joy at acceptance, but the desire to fight seemed to hold sway over that for the time being.
Latanya, on the other hand, was emanating a twinge of fear. She probably only heard a few words, or saw the way Jinx and I looked, and assumed we were actually fighting… He shrugged, archery would probably be good for Jinx, it would let her take out her anger, release a bit of fire at a target that wasn’t going to argue about it. More importantly, it would force her to talk to Latanya, maybe the others who were following her as well, if they were all practicing too.
He smiled thankfully, “Sounds like fun.”
“What’re you talking about, Gatian?” Jinx asked, surprised, “Aren’t we going to spar?”
“Later.” He said, “In the meantime, wouldn’t you like to spend some time with these guys, blowing up targets or something?” He looked at Latanya, “I think I’ll take that lesson as well. I’d be much better use with a bow, if I use my power on someone standing in front of me, I get some pretty severe backlash from them.”
Jinx still looked shocked that he’d put off their sparring. He let out a laugh, “Hey, this is war, isn’t it.” Then he realised that she probably felt he’d betrayed her. Without checking her feelings first, he rushed on, “But I promise we can spar later.”
