"No! I'll melt!" Tanner screamed girlishly, screaming bloody murder the second he hit the cold water. Layton smiled and crept out of the water and around Leal and Chevy, shoving both of them in the water.

"Cannonball!" She screamed, jumping in and landing right on Chevy, who resurfaced soon after, coughing loudly. Layton stuck her tongue out kidishly and began to laugh.

l=l=l=l=l=l=l=l=l=l=l=l

After swimming around and trying to drowned each other for a while Tanner suggested playing chicken. "Okay... Me and Leal.. and Layton and Chevy," he smiled widely, "Break!"

"Tanner... we're not playing basketball. No need to shout stuff, kay?" Tanner just stook his tongue out playfully as Leal climbed on his shoulders.

Right when they were about to start two cars screached to a stop, one holding Layton's parents and brother, the other hold Chevy's family.

"What do you think your doing wtih him!" Layton's dad hissed.

"What are you doing wtih someone that is disrespectful to Ranger!" Chevy's parents hissed.

"LEAVE THEM ALONE!" Leal yelled.

"Stay otu of this!" Chevy's dad hissed. She jumped off Tanner's shoulders and crossed her arms.

"Leave them alone, or we're leaving!" She hissed. "All of us!"

"Layton, get over here right now or you'll be sorry!" Layton's father snapped. Layton shook her head and slid off Chevy's shoulders, wrapping her arms around his torso.

"No," she replied calmly, trying to remain composed.

"Layton!"

"You're only worried that something with happen again!" She screamed. "Chevy's not like him. He's not." At the same time Layton was arguing with her parents Chevy was shouting at him.

"You can't imprint on someone that isn't a shifter!" his dad growled.

"She is a shifter!" He growled back. "And I don't care if she isn't full Navajo. I'm sick and tired of the reservation and all these stupid rules. I don't care if I have to run away so I can be with er you're not keeping me away!" She hissed.

"No," Layton's mother turned her attention to Chevy, "You're not taking my daughter anywhere. No, not going to happen. George grab Layton we're leaving." Her dad waded into the water and took a hold on her wrist, trying to yank her away from Chevy.

"No! Stop it," screamed Layton, tightening her hold on Chevy.

"Layton. It's time to go home. I'm going to talk to my boss about a move back and your coming with us whether you like it or not. Let's. Go. You too Tanner."

"Just give Chevy a chance Dad! Till the end of summer! That's all I'm asking, and if you still don't agree I'll go with you." Not really. Layton shot to Chevy, Leal, and Tanner. She saw visible rage twisted within her father's face but he soon turned away.

"Fine.... only if his parents agree and... I can sit down and have a man-to-man conversation with him."

Chevy fought to keep from changing when her father tried to take her away from him. He was so angry he could hardly hold his shift which was unusual.

"Why should we agree, son/" His father demanded.

"Because you don't judge who my brothers imprint on, why is it different for me?" He demanded. "I could've imprinted on Leal and I doubt you'd have said anything."

"Leal isn't a shifter." His father said.

"Wanna bet?" Leal hissed. She shifted into a mouse then back to human so her clothes stayded on jsut right.

"Fine." HIs dad growled turning and leaving.

**time skip maybe?**

Layton groaned and plopped down on her bed, hair sprawled out across the black comforter. "Leal... my parents are such idiots. I can't believe they want to take us all out to some fancy restraunt in the next town." She sat up and pulled her hair into a messy bun as Leal laughed lightly. "You better be prepared because they're going to throw every question they have at you and Chevy."

*short i know sorry**

Leal laughed and shrugged. "Oh, so they are going to ask me questions?" She asked with a smile.

"Oh ya. Almost as bad as Chevy." Layton replied. She hadn't been to happy.

"I'm fine with that." She replied. "I'm perfectly fine with that."

Layton clicked her tongue and dug through her dresser to find a nice shirt. "Yeah, you say that now. Wait till you actually get there. Geez, when Tanner and I first entered high school together, even though we were best friends since birth, my parents hounded him. It was hilarious then. Now, not so much." She finally decided on a plain black t-shirt, a pair of jeans, and some sneakers. "You can choose whatever. I'm just going to be simple today," she laughed and walked into the bathroom.

She pulled on some clothes that were nice, but not to flashy. She looked in the mirror and fixed her hair up pretty and then put a tad make up on. SHe was more worried about looking good for Tanner then what Layton's parents were going to do.

*~*~*~*~*~*

Chevy pulled on a polo and then a nice pair of slacks.

"Flashy, man." Tanner laughed walking out.

"not too flashy, I don't want her parents to hate me. I don't want to take off yet." He replied with a smile.

Layton laughed and walked back out into her room. "Ah! My eyes!" Leal shot her a worried look, only to be laughed at. "Just kidding." This, of course, earned her a punch in the arm. She laughed loudly and fixed up her hair, adding a bit of make-up. "You make me feel like trailer trash!" Layton grabbed an black and red off-the-shoulder quatersleeve and exchanged that with her black, slipping out of her sneakers and into a pair of sparries. (sp?)

---

Tanner chuckled and pulled on a white, collared shirt and un-did only the top button, pulling on a pair of slacks and nice shoes. "Dude, whatever you do only leave the first button undone." He warned Chevy, who had all the buttons un-done.

"Why?"

"Just believe me when I say her parents will throw a fit." He laughed loudly.

Chevy buttoned the buttons up other then teh top one and then ran a hand through his hair. "I've never spent this much time worrying about how I look." he said crossing hsi arms and looking in the mirror.

"Try doin this every stinkin day." Tanner laughed.

"No stinkin, way!" Chevy laughed.

*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*

Leal smiled and hugged Layton. "You would never look like trailer trash."

Tanner laughed loudly. "You'll at least have to do it until her mom and dad lighten up. I had to spend half of my ninth grade year with my hair perfectly parted, wearing a button-up pastel shirt and a pair of slacks. Worst year of my life. Then, she broke it off with me because she felt weird around me when I was trying to impress her parents, so we went back to being just friends." Chevy groaned and rubbed his face angrily.

--

Layton smiled lightly and grabbed Leal's wrist, pulling her out into the livingroom. Since Leal was only going with Tanner Layton's parents would be easy on her, except when it came to the questions. "Ah! Don't you two look darlin'!" Her mom squealed, hugging them both. Layton could feel Leal's akwardness and began to laugh.

Leal half hugged the lady back. She was antsy and nervous, and she didn't lke that. Tanner walked in with Chevy and she walked over to Tanner wrapping her arms around his waist and leaning against him.

This is so uncomfortable. She said in his head.

I'm sorry. He replied softly.

*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*

Chevy walked over to Layton putting hsi arms around her waist before anyone could say anything.

So, when will it start? He asked her.

Layton leaned into Chevy, fitting comfortably. I don't know in all truth, but on a better not, you smell nice. She smiled lightly. She felt Chevy chuckle and tighten his grip around her waist. Her father was shooting them annoyed glances and finally stood up. "Okay! Let's go!" He shouted, stomping to the door.

--

Tanner followed his adoptive father, his hand rested on the small of her back as he helped her into the truck. He felt horrible that she felt uncomfortable. I'm so sorry. He wrapped his arm around her and burried his face into her neck.

This planet has - or rather had - a problem, which was this: most of the people living on it were unhappy for pretty much all of the time. Many solutions were suggested for this problem, but most of these were largely concerned with the movement of small green pieces of paper, which was odd because on the whole it wasn't the small green pieces of paper that were unhappy.
