The gate guard eyed their small party, then waved them out. Shad grinned.

"Ah, fresh air," Sky sighed. "I was starting to wonder how the townsfolk put up with the smell."

"It's worse for me," Shad pointed out. "Sharper senses."

Sky said no more. They traveled for nearly an hour in silence. Then she said, "How long have you... ah... known you could change like that?"

"Since I was ten," was the quiet reply. "It caused quite a scene the first time." Shad made a face. Sky laughed.

"I guess so."

Sky

"That must've been hard..." Sky said, while looking at Shad.

"It was..."

"I'm sorry."

"No worries."

"Ow!" Sky yelled, while bumping into someone and falling to the ground. Sky sat up on her elbows and rubbed her head. "You know that hurt."

"Then, watch where you're going next time."

"Excuse me?" Sky said, finally looking up. A boy was standing above her with a bored expression on his face. He had reddish mahogany hair and black eyes.

"I said, 'Then, watch where you're going next.'"

Sky got mad and her eyes and tattoo started to glow a little.

"You don't have be a jerk." Shad said, helping Sky up. The three of them stood just looking at each other.

I stared at them. They looked as if they were expecting an apology. Well, they weren't going to get one.

I began, "Where are you going?"

They didn't answer. I sighed and sat down on the ground. This wasn't to go anywhere, maybe a fake apology was in order to gain a slice of thier trust.

I looked at the girl in the eyes and clenched my jaw, "I'm sorry."

It was the best I could, apologies were foriegn to me and I barely even talked anyway. Would they accept such an obviously fake one?

The guy looked at me, but he seemed liked he accepted it. I grinned inwardly; fools.

I smiled warmly, "So where are we going?"

I included "we" in it because there was no else to follow currently. Might as well join them.

Torn:

Torn's mutated bunnies were hopping towards the unknowing run-aways.

While Torn was still trying to get out of the tree trunks.

Shad

"What's your name?" Shad asked.

"Ballow," the boy replied, eyes down.

I nodded. If he wanted to be shy, I'd let him. After all, I thought, amused, you don't meet an elf and a were-dragon everyday.

Torn:

He finally got away from the trunks... it had been a hard task, but he had mannaged. He was on his knees, huffing.

After a while he grapped his axe and leening on it, he stood up.

It was time to begin the hunt.

He went following the track of his mutated bunnies.

Shad stopped walking, and Sky bumped into him. "Watch where you're..." she began.

"Shh! Something's not right."

More quietly, Sky said, "You're the dragon. What's up?"

Shad frowned. "It just doesn't feel right. Something... evil is loose in the woods." He sniffed the breeze. "It smells rotten. Like something just died."

Sky

Sky bent down and put her hands on the ground. She closed her eyes and whispered, "Show me." No one could hear what she said since she said it so quickly and quietly.

Sky saw the forest flash over her eyes and saw it. The castle grounds where empty and Torn wasn't trapped there anymore. The forest flash before her eyes again. She saw huge creatures jumping and running threw the forest. She didn't know what they were, but she felt the vibration of their footsteps. They were close. In front of the creatures was a warrior, and Sky knew it was Torn.

Sky snapped her eyes opened. "We have to go, now!"

"Wait, why?" Ballow asked.

"The guard at the castle...he escaped. He is what seems like, leading these huge creatures. They are very close." Sky explained.

"What do we do know?" Shad asked, looking at Sky.

"That's easy, we run!" Ballow yelled sarcasticly.

"Shut up, Ballow!" Sky yelled, giving him the evil eye.

"I can make a path under ground so they won't know we are underground and we have more time. It will take a lot of energy, but I can do it." Sky explained.

"Or, we can fly..." Shad said, smiling.

Sky stared at him. "You sure you can carry two?"

"Try me." Without further words, Shad changed. He knelt down, offering his back to them. Sky vaulted aboard like she'd been born riding dragons. Not so Ballow.

Hurry, Shad warned him. Before a startled Ballow could reply, he'd severed the link.

Sky

Sky sat in front holding onto Shad. "Thanks." Sky whispered in Shad's big ears.

"What he h-" Ballow said. Sky turned around and saw Ballow struggling to stay on the dragon.

"Having trouble?" Sky giggle-asked.

"No." Ballow answered, with rudness in his voice.

"Fine." Sky turned around. "Lets go." Sky whispered in Shad's ear.

Sure thing. Shad sent to Sky. Sky felt the wind around her whip her face. Just when Shad was about to take flight, Ballow feel off him.

"I thought you weren't haveing trouble." Sky said sarcasticly.

"Just shut up and help me up." Ballow said raising his hand. Sky helped him on Shad again and said, "Hold on to me."

"What?"

"Hold on to me."

"Why?"

"So you won't fall off. Hold on to me." Sky said, with a voice that showed there was no arguing. Sky felt Ballows arms wrap around her waist. "You go any lower than that, you're dead." Sky warned. She heard Ballow chuckle behind her.

Now can we go? Shad sent to Sky.

"Yes." Sky answered, and they flew off into the night sky.

Torn:

He got out of the woods just in time to see The dragon fly away.

"Damn that shapeshifter." He said.

He turned to one of his mutants. and gave it a letter. "Take this to Lord Owling

Shad felt strange as he took off into the air. It'd been a long time since he'd trusted anyone enough to reveal his secret, let alone ride him.

Sky

Sky looked down on the landscape. The tree were a brilliant green. The sky was a dark blue with star shining within the sky. It was a full moon, which made everything illuminate. Sky put her head back, while saying, "It's so beautiful." Sky closed her eyes, then opened them again. She saw Shad and Ballow looking at her like she was wierd. "What, it is!?"

"Sure..." Ballow said, turning his face. Sky laughed at him.

"You must admit it." Sky said.

"No, I'm good."

"Fine." Sky said stubbornly. "How you doing, Shad?"

Fine.

"Good." She answered. Sky was starting to feel safe around Ballow and Shad. The scariest thing though, was that Sky didn't know if she could leave them, or handle them leaving her.

Shad could feel apprehension coming from Sky. He couldn't say what the source was, but it had to do with himself and Ballow.

Maybe he should talk with her. But then she'd know he could sense her feelings. It could be awkward. Instead, he pointed out a constellation of nine stars. "The Mirror looks bright, doesn't it?"

Sky turned to face him. "Where I come from, we call it the Gateway." She shrugged.

"Dragons-" Shad faltered. "Dragons say that each star is a beacon. It guides a certain person all through their life."

Ballow looked thoughtful. "My people believe something like that."

"What my people mean by the gateway is that it can be the gateway to anything to a person. I believe it was my gateway to you guys..." Sky said. She couldn't believe she said that. Sky started to blush. It got silent and Sky blushed more, and she looked at the sky again to calm herself.
