"Sky... I'm sorry about... back there." He could feel a blush creeping in. "I..."

"It's ok. I like you, truly." Sky fidgeted with her dress.

As he looked away, Shad saw a brief flare in Ballow's eyes. Was it jealousy? Or envy? Whatever the case, Shad was confident he could deal with it. Then he remembered another old proverb: "Pride goeth before the fall."

Sky

Sky felt Shad tense.

"Are you okay?" Sky asked.

"Hm? Oh, yeah. I'm fine."

"If you need anything just ask...okay?"

"Sure."

Sky started the feel tired. Her vision got worse and it was hard for her to focus it.

"Freaking lovebirds." Ballow muttered. Sky pretended to ignore Ballow's comment.

"Maybe we should stop here. I'm getting very light headed..." Sky said, yawing after. Sky tripped over her feet and almost fell, but caught herself.

"Yeah, let's stop here and let her rest." Ballow said. Shad and Ballow lead Sky to the wall. She sat down, then crawled up into a ball. She had a tiring day. All she needed was some rest.

Ballow and Shad sat on both sides of her.

Shad's dreams were troubled. He saw the giant menacing Sky, then himself charging to her rescue, only to be mown down by a swipe of his armored hand. He lay there, winded, as Torn began to tear Sky...

With a start he sat up. She's here. She's all right. I can protect her. It was strange; he'd never felt this way about one of his own people. Why was it this girl who had claimed his heart?

Sky

Sky yawned and opened her eyes a little. She closed them again and felt something soft and warm next her. She put her arms around it and snuggled with it. She started to get warm, so she hug the object a little tighter. Sky soon drifted off to a smooth dreamless sleep.

(By the way that's "object" is Shad."

"I'll do it later, Cedric..." Shad muttered.

Ballow kicked him in the shin. "Will you stop muttering!?"

Only half awake, Shad lashed out... and contacted the embers of their fire. He sprang up, howling.

"What is it?" Sky demanded.

"@#!$!" Shad screamed. "Sorry!"

Sky

Sky got annoyed by the yelling. She picked up her hand and tiny rocks come up from the ground and she extened her finger, making the rocks hit Ballow and Shad's heads.

"Would you guys shut up! I'm tired! Go back to sleep! Urg!" Sky yelled, going in a ball again.

"It was all your fault!" Ballow whipered yelled at Shad.

"My fault?!?!" Shad exclaimed.

"Holy moly! Just shut up!" Sky yelled at them. Ballow and Shad got quiet. Sky started to get cold and started to shiver.

Hurt, Shad moved away from the others. He nursed his bruised head sullenly.

Sky sighed. "I'm not really mad. Come back over here; you'll freeze."

"You forgot that I'm a dragon." Shad closed his eyes. "Good night all."

She said nothing, but when he was asleep she moved up next to him.

Sky

Sky started to cry in her sleep. She was dreaming that Sky would die early an leave Shad behind. She started to cry harder and breath heavily.

"No!" Sky screamed, waking up. She felt the tears rol down her cheeks. She grabbed her knees and cried into them. She cried and cried. She couldn't stop. Shad could live forever, and Sky, god forbid she got hurt she could die. She didn't want that the happen. She didn't want to let go of him.

Sky kept crying and crying, until there were no more tears.

Calm down, Form. Just tell us which character you are.

"Sky? What's wrong?" Her soft sobbing had woken Shad in the wee hours.

Sky sniffed. "It's just a thought... but what if... one of us gets hurt? I mean, really hurt?"

"Is that all? You saw what happened with Torn last time." He grimaced and rubbed at his head. "Don't worry. Everything's going to be all right."

A sleepy voice said, "Can't you two lovebirds keep it down? I'm trying to sleep."

Torn:

He was on the hill. He was starting to get annoyed. This had gone long enough. it was time for serious measures.

He called upon his power, he called it upon the winds "Change your course, and become a storm." He said in a low rumbling voice.

Suddenly a gust of wind, soon an even stronger. Clouds started gathering in the sky, and soon a storm was out.

Shad sat bolt upright. "Do you two smell rain?" he asked.

Ballow sniffed. "No, I don't. You're the dragon here."

"As everyone keeps reminding me," Shad muttered. "Come on; we should find some better shelter. I don't like the smell of this."

Sky grimaced, but she got up. Looking around, she pointed to a large outcropping ahead. "That should do."

Ballow and Shad followed her directions. Soon they found a ledge tucked away in the rocks.

Shad half-smiled. "It's a good thing we didn't have to bring horses. They'd never fit in here."

Sky shoved him playfully.

Hey guys, thanks for keeping Ballow in the story; he's seeming very cruel and heartless, though . . ^^ Thank you anyway.

Ballow

Ballow groaned to himself; Goddamn lovebirds. He shuddered slightly. They looked so happy together he couldn't help but stare at them. For a second he flet a feeling overwhelm him which he'd never felt before.

Utter and desolate loneliness; though Shad was a dragon and Sky was en elf, they would be with each other for a long time, if they played it right at least.

He couldn't help glancing at them occasionally as they sat under to small ledge of rocks. Sky rested upon Shad's shoulder and Shad curled a protective arm around he shoulder.

Ballow stared at them for a second before turning around and cloding his eyes. If he didn't seem them, then maybe he wouldn't feel so lonely. A tear trickled out of his eyes and he blinked it away furiously. A person that is not human doesn't deserve to cry.

The thought flashed through his head for a second and he remembered everything he had ever wanted to forget.

The beatings from the villagers; their scathing words and how hot those torches had been. A chill ran up his spine and he shuddered.

They were right, he wasn't human. He would never be human; as because of that he was ashamed. He usually bottled himself up with his personality and bad manners.

He curled into a ball and let the tears fall silently away from Shad's and Sky's eyes. But they weren't listening; they were already falling asleep again. Rainy weather seemed to do that to people. Mqke them drowsy.

Slowly the tears stopped and Balled became uncomfortable under the ledge. He had to go for a walk and stretch his legs; it was too cramped in here. Rain didn't bother him; Ballow had never gotten sick in his life.

Glacing as them once more he carefully crept out of the cave. With a sigh he walked off in the pouring rain and he wathced as the lightning hit the ground everywhere.

The sounds of thunder calmed his nerves and he found himself staring up at the moon; it was afull moon. A beautiful sight; one he would've wanted to remember all his life. He wished he had someway to just keep the picture.

But slowly a cloud drifted in front of the moon and the picturesque image was gone; never to return again for him.

It reminded him ironically of his life; something he wanted, but just couldn't have with happiness.

Sighing he followed his legs as they walked him to a log in the middle of no where. He sat down with a thump and began to cry again.

Crying alone. The tears mingled with rain drops and it was hard to ttell he was crying apart form the occasional shudder of his body as he took in deep breahts in between sobs.

The sound of desolate sobbing woke Shad. Moving carefully so as not to wake Sky, he squeezed out of the crevasse. He found Ballow crying into his hands.

Silently he sat down beside the boy. When Ballow looked up, he started. "Ho-how l-long have you b-been here?" he hiccuped.

Shad patted him on the back. "Just a few minutes," he admitted. "What is it?"

Calmer now, Ballow said, "I saw you two together... and it reminded me that I have no one. I've been alone all my life." He sniffed.

"You know that's not true," Shad said, trying to sound like an older brother. "Me and Sky, we're your friends. Don't ever forget that."

Ballow nodded. "I'll remember. Thank you, Shad."
