Kelly:

Kelly hummed along to the radio as she drove down the interstate, heading for Seattle.

------------------------(two days later)-------

Kelly sighed as she pulled into the parking lot of the motel.

It didn't take me long to get the plane tickets. When your mom works as a flight attendant, you have connections.

The next morning, I woke up to a completely silent house. I had packed a few things the night before - nothing extravegant, just my jeans, and a few shirts. I shoved the money my mom left me in my pocket, leaving her a note just in case.

My turn for a trip mom.
Love you.

I knew I'd be in a lot of trouble if she came home before me, but that was just too bad for her. It's about time she got a taste of what she put me through.

Ryan gave me a ride to the airport, drilling me with questions about where I was going. He was so overprotective, and I heard it all in his head.

Where would she be going without me? Why wouldn't she tell me where she's going? Maybe she's gonna go meet one of those guys online...that wouldn't be too surprising, really. Damn, I hate him...

I growled inward, hating how obsessive he was, especially considering that he was my ex. When we got to the airport, I smiled and thanked him.

"I've got my cell if you desperately need me, or if my mom comes home," I told him, throwing my backpack of stuff over my shoulder.

"All right. Have fun...?" I chuckled at his questioning tone.

"I'll do my best. See ya," I waved, slamming the door and walking into the airport.

* * * * *

Inside the airport, everything was loud. The voices of those who were speaking found my ears, weaving into my brain where they mixed with the thoughts of those who weren't speaking. Groaning loudly, I ran my fingers through my long brown hair and walked to the front desk.

[I've never been to an airport before, so forgive me if anything sounds screwed up. ^.^]

Kelly:

Grabbing her bags out of teh backseat, Kelly opened her door and got out of the car. Heading to teh front desk, she sat her bags down beside her.

"Yes, I need a room for one please." Kelly twiddled her fingers as she waited for the man at the desk to get her a key. Her kept eyeing her up and down, acting as if she didn't know he was doing it. He looked to be around his late twenties. He grinned.

"You sure your here by yourself hon?" He asked, still grinning.

Jerk. She was used to guys doing this. She looked like she was 19.

"Yes, I am. Now can I please have my key?" she asked, holding out her hand.

"Sure, just as soon as you give me a kiss from those sweet lips of yours sugar." He leaned over the counter. Man I would sure love to tap that! I heard him think. Ew!

I grimanced, shaking my head. "I'm sorry but your not my type. Besides your too old for me." I was still holding my hand out.

He looked confused.

"How old are you?"

"17."

"Oh." He sat back up. "Sorry bout that, you just looked so pretty."

I blushed, he was handsome, but he still wasn't my type.

"It's okay. I normally get that. Besides, how old did you think I was?"

"20."

"Nope. Now can I please have my key?" He handed it over, smiling.

I grabbed my bags and headed out the door to my room.

--------------------------------

Sighing, I flopped down on the bed. Seattle! Who would have guess.

Oh well, might as well go get some grub. I thought sitting up and grabbing my room key and car key.

Maybe a nice litle cafe?

Who knows.

*hey TN? your in seattle right, maybe me and you could meet up at that cafe, like i walk in and theres no more room and ask if i can sit with you? just a suggestion.*

***Ya, and sure***

Colt:

Man, I wish I could serve him. Colt growled and rubbed his temples, this was getting really annoying. He was ready to leave before his food even got there.

"You ok, honey?" The older waitress asked walking over. He looks like he's got a headache.

"Just a small headache." He said smiling a little. The bell over the door rang and he waited to be flooded with another person's thoughts. Nothing happened though. He frowned as he rememebered the only other seat was next to him. He was sitting at the counter. He heard the swivel chair turn as someone sat down. He glanced over and saw a girl that looked about his age. He waited to hear her thoughts, but nothing happened. She looked at him and smiled a little.

"Hi." Where the heck are her thoughts, she has to be thinking something! He thought confussed.

"Howdy." He managed to push out. He grabbed his coffee cup and took a sip.

Stupid, cute, girl. Why's he looking at her like that? He growled. Couldn't that waitress ever shut up! What's he see in her, she's just a kid. He has to be about twenty. SHe can't be but maybe sixteen.

"Can I get you something, Honey?" Trisha, the older waitress, asked the girl that was sitting next to him.

Kelly:

Kelly smiled at the waitress.
"Umm...do you have a menu or somethig. I just got into town."

She looked at the other waitress who was eyeing her up. Stupid girl. Whats he see in her? she heard the girl think.

The guy beside her looked at her and smiled. "Can I recommend something? I'm Colt by the way. Colt Rose." She could believe it. She could hear everybody elses thought except his.

"Sure. Do you live around here?" She smiled again as the waitress brought a cup of steaming coffee. She winced at the pain in her thigh as she went top grab it. Whats going on? It hasn't bothered me in years. She tought as she rubbed a hand across her thigh.

"Yeah. Do you need any help finding anything?" He asked.

"Umm....Do you know a Dr. Blaine?"

*gotta go bell rung.*

Colt:

"Your looking for him too?" Colt asked surprised. "Or her."

"Ya." She looked at him her eyes growing wide. "Can you?"

"Ya." He looked at his coffee cup and took a sip looking at the wall. "I hope this guy or girl, knows what he/she is talking about, my brains about to explode."

He's even talking to her! The waitress hissed.

"I wish she would shut the hell up." He groaned.

"You know her?" She asked with a smile.

"Nope, just came up here yesterday. Never been here before, but figured I'd better check it out before I get a permanent headache."

"How long?" She asked as she was brought her drink.

"Sense I was sixteen. So two years, you'd think I'd be used to it. But sense my home town is really small I'm not used to so many thoughts." He rubbed his temple again and then smiled. "How long for you?"

Caleb-

"No, I've never heard of a Dr. Blain before." Sam said leaning back against the counter.

"Alright." Caleb replied down heartedly. It wouldn't be too hard, just time consuming, to find this doctor.

"Is something wrong, Caleb? Are you sick?" Oh my god, what if he has cancer, or worse? Sam thought. Caleb didn't want to worry him, but he didn't want to lie either. They had been best friends growing up. Both of their families were powerful money wise and they really only had each other because of how much thier parents sheltered them.

"If anything, I'm going crazy." Caleb replied. Sam didn't believe him.

"Okay, well, I was going to head over to Blake Island. That's where my girl friend works. But I was gunna get some food first. Want to come?" Caleb nodded and followed Sam out of the appartment and down the street to a diner.

When they walked in Sam waved at an older waitress and said, "Hey, Trisha!" The waitress waved back and motioned at two seats at the end of the counter that had just opened up. Caleb could hear everyone's thoughts and they were all jumbled, they became more clear when he would look at one person, all the other thoughts were still there but sort of created background noise.

They sat down and Sam ordered "the usual" and Caleb said he would have whatever Sam was eating. Caleb looked down the counter at two people, a guy and a girl sitting and talking. When he looked at them the thoughts were still jumbled, nothing was clear. He couldn't hear their thoughts. He really was going crazy.

Xenia Abaryth, September 18th, Seattle.

With relief, Xenia left the Seattle airport and headed out into the streets with a map clutched in one hand and the handle of her suitcase chaffing against the other. She stopped still for a moment to look at the directions scrawled across one side of the map before setting off again, searching for the taxi rank. It didn't take her long to find.

Xen flagged down one of the garishly yellow cars and waited while the guy put her case in the back before climbing in the passenger seat.

"Where you headed?" the driver asked. Xenia showed him the address of the hotel she'd booked herself into and almost groaned as he raised an eyebrow and started thinking, God, this girl must be loaded...

"My parents have booked me in for the night. Swell birthday gift, huh? They're waiting for me down there," Xenia lied, relieved to find his thoughts settle down to a dull buzz, his mind thrumming over the directions and something or other about his son.

"Where you from?" the driver asked.

"Las Vegas," Xenia said and the driver nodded as though this were nothing. Xenia frowned, spying into his thoughts: he hadn't even listened to her answer! It registered vaguely in his mind and then was pushed aside. Xenia crossed her arms and frowned, handing him her money huffily when the journey was over seconds later.

Un-packing didn't take long and after locking the door to her room, Xenia headed back out, wondering where to start her search.

((Jink))

Bzzt! Bzzt! My mom looked at her phone and frowned. Fuck. I thought I'd be able to make her birthday for once in her life...

"It's alright mom. Go, I'll meet up with you for dinner."

My mom gave me a thankful smile. "Thanks honey. Sorry my promises are so pathetic..."

I stopped her. "S'all right. I wanted to take my motorcycle anyways."

I hopped out of the car with my pack as my mom sped off down the road towards her job. I turned and jogged to my bike. I wheeled it out, fitting my helmet over my head. One, two kicks and it started. Deciding to go to my favorite cafe my bike sped down the road, only hitting a few stoplights. My usual spot was taken to park so I took the one next to it. A little variety was good. I took my helmet off and held it at my side as I pocketed my key and opened the doors.

The smell of coffee and teas rolled over me along with syrup and pancakes. I smiled warmly, home. My bar seat was taken, of course it was. I frowned for a moment but smiled as the one next to it opened. The man pulled his scruffy coat on and walked past me, out the door.

I quickly took the spot. Voices were booming around me, as if there were two times the people there really were. I rubbed my temples, this was gonna be a drag. The waitress came over and said something. I responded with the usual tea and toast and she sped away.

Psychic. I thought. I reached into my discarded pack beside me to pull out my laptop. I clicked it on and got Firefox up. I Googled 'mind reading'. A website run by a man with a PhD looked promising. I clicked on it and my firewall told me it had blocked a pop up. I looked at the nature of the pop up and found it different. I allowed it. A message came up.

Dr. Blaine.
Seattle, Washington
Mind readers

"Excuse me." I came back to my own world. A girl sat next to me with a male friend. They were both looking at me. "I hate to intrude but does that say Dr. Blaine, as in the mind reader?"

I looked at her quizzically. She shook her head, smiling. "Never mind. I was just being silly..."

I cut her off. "You can hear all this too?"

"Looks like we have another one." The male remarked.

My heart stopped. I wasn't alone?

Caleb-

Someone said Dr. Blain, out loud too. He looked around a girl had just come in and taken a seat. She was on a lap top when someone, another girl, leaned over and asked her about Dr. Blain.

"Do you guys know how to contact this Dr. Blain?" Caleb asked, leaning across Sam.

The other three looked at him questioningly, "Who are you?" The girl on the lap top asked.

"If you're looking for this Dr. Blain for the same reasons I am, which is probably crazy, then I think we can help each other out." Caleb replied, hesitant to give his name. This could be a set up, it wouldn't be the first time someone had tried to kill him, or kid nap him. Actually it would be about the third time, what people wouldn't do for some money.

"Caleb, what are you talking about?" Sam muttered into my ear.

"I'll tell you later." He promised waiting for an answer from one of the others.

Tim

Tim loooked around the cafe hearing everyone's thoughts as they looked at him, he relished the insults, EUGHH! Lookat his hiar, f**king emo! a few mroe caught his attention as he surveyed the packed cafe, Bloody kids just wasting their life these days, why when i was young . . . The something caught his attnetion.

His eyes drifted over a small huddle of people they were all in conversation, but he couldn't hear their thoguhts.

Before walking over to them he heard a thought from a waitress, Oh! God I hope that guy doesn't mind that I sneezed in his coffeee.

Tim smlied a dry smile and walked over to the group.

Two words once again caught his attnetion, "Dr. Blaine."

Intirigued he aksed, "Why can't I read your minds?"

If they understood they would answer much the same, it they didn't he would enjoy s a couple of crazy insults being thrown at him.

Caleb-

A kid walked over to them before anyone could say anything and said, "Why can't I read your minds?"

"What the hell are you on?" Sam asked throwing a confused look at the kid.

"Sam, look I promise I'll explain later-"

"It's okay, I gotta go to the island anyways. I'll see you later at home?" Caleb nodded and waited until Sam left to talk again.

"Sorry about him, he isn't like us." Caleb said.

"What do you mean, 'like us'?" One of the girls asked.

"Isn't it obvious, we're all different. For some reason we all share the same connection, we are all able to read minds, just not each others. That must be some sort of catch, or protection. We really need to find this Dr. Blain."

"Do you think there are more of us?" The emo kid asked.

"I don't know." Caleb answered.

Tim

Tim wacthed the man whose thoughts he could read walk away, Bloody emo kids on soemthing wack, I swear

He turned his attention to the people whose thoughts he coundln't read were sitting.

It was painful to not understand why he could not hear their thoughts and because it was painful Tim was in a particular chatty mood, "Do you think there are more of us?"

"I don't know." Caleb answered.

Tim grinned not knowing was better, HAHAH! They can read thoughts but they can't read mine! A thought occured to him, What if one of them is lying? An idea formed in his mind.

"OKay, I don't particularly enjoy not being able to hear your insults, so this is a test. You tell me what that lady over there - the one talking to the old man is thinking and then we'll all know that we're all painfully the same, agreed?"

He stared at her, Oh god, I hate this place it's full of weirdoes! And it' so MUGGY!

Tim waited for peoples replies.

Colt:

"That's a faulty plan." Colt said pointblank.

"Excuse me?" The guy asked.

"Anyone could easily lie except for the first one to say what she thought." Colt turned around and took his cup of coffee in his hands. "I think we're all telling the truth, we can't her each other. That's proof enough for me.
