***ok nevermind****

Sugar Beth

As I started walking off I muttered, "It's Carey, not Casey." Great, lunch I had made no friends I had no idea where to sit and everyone kept looking at me like a I was a freak because I was so tall grr!!!! But of course all the men were taller than me, I was just taller than the women. I was only here for four hours and it already felt like hell, great. Welcome to my world. I felt like I wuld be sick, I put on a fake smile, that was the thing with me, you never knew whether it was a fake smile of a real smile-they always brightened up the room.

I just sat down, at a random table, away from everyone else, I had no idea what to say if someone did indeed came up to me and tried talking to me, I felt as if I'd swallowed my own tongue, and butterflies formed in my stomach I bit my bottom lip and put my fists on the table.

***I have no idea where I'm going with this, I'm just really lost*****

[I'll be jumping in soon, as a new transfer. ^^]

Name: Indrajit (Indy) Choudhry
Age: 39
Position: Head of Pediatrics
Appearance: Indrajit--whose friends call him Indy, despite the fact that he looks nothing like Harrison Ford (though he does own a fedora)--is a sturdily-built man of average height. In fact, just about everything about Indrajit's appearance is average. The one thing he has going for him is a wondrously mellow, sonorous voice. Despite having lived in DC for the last nine years, he's still got the warm lilt of India in his voice, and a way or pronouncing words along the British lines. (For a visual prompt, see any image of Naveen Andrews.)
Bio: Indy grew up outside of the northern Indian city of Agra, an only child who showed a remarkable affinity for education at an early age. His parents and other relatives worked together to send Indy to England, where he first attended Eton and later won a prestigious scholarship to the School of Clinical Medicine, University of Cambridge. He worked at a private practice in London for a few years and then moved to Washington, DC where he rose quickly through the ranks of the PICU at the Georgetown University Hospital. He recently applied for--and was given--the position of Head of Pediatrics at Columbia Mercy Hospital. On a more personal note, though he had a serious girlfriend in DC, Indy has never had much time to spare for relationships. Now, though--despite increasing demands on his time--he's starting to feel the need for someone to share his life with.

Zoe

Zoe walked through a hall, and looked around, soon finding herself in the Cafeteria, she recognized most of the interns from this morning. She helped herself to what the hospital offered. Zoe looked at the tables before making her way to one with one of the interns from today.

"Sugar Beth Carey, am I right?" Zoe asked, as she sat down at the same table, across from Sugar Beth.

*I know, its short, but I don't really know the character (sugar) very well, so I don't know what that character would say. I just don't want to make it out of character...*

Also!

Name: Modesty "Des" Keating-Parker -- generally referred to as just Dr. Keating.
Age: 58
Position: Chief of Surgery (i.e., the Head Honcho)
Appearance: Des is one of those women lucky enough to age gracefully. There are some crows-feet around her eyes and mouth, but she's relatively free of wrinkles thus far. Her dark hair is streaked through with gray and is usually worn in a knot at the nape of her neck. Much to her chagrin, she now wears glasses while operating. She is a small woman, only 5'3" and 120-odd pounds, but has enough personality to fill up any operating room plus some.
Biography: Des is something of an institution at CMH, having undergone the whole of her medical career there. She made her name in cardiothoracic surgery, even striking up a close friendship with the legendary Dr. Michael DeBakey (often via correspondence). While her professional history is a textbook case of good luck, better skills, and general genius, her personal history is a bit more spotted. She has been married (and divorced) twice and has had three children. The only child from her first marriage was killed in a car accident sixteen years earlier, and her two daughters--one of whom, Sydney, is now a second-year resident at CMH.
After her first daughter's death, she pulled away from her family (Syd, 11, her sister, and her father) for fear of losing them too, and threw herself into her work. Not long afterward, Parker divorced her. Her relationship with her living daughters didn't survive the divorce.
At the moment she is casually seeing a college professor twenty-one years her junior, which is something of a scandal in the closeknit hospital community (and her family). Des is a big fan of "tough love" and views each of the doctors under her purview as a personal investment and responsibility; she also has an infuriating tendency to speak to interns as though they were her children.

Sydney Parker

Sydney sighed a bit and put her hands on her hips as Evan slid out the door. She grabbed her coffee mug and her clipboard and headed to the locker room to pop her head in to any interns who were inside, "Hey guys it's lunch time, so head up two floors to the cafeteria. We will meet back here in 1 hour."

A yawn escaped Sydney's soft pink lips as she made her way out of the lounge, running right into Jeremy Raynor on his way in, "Hey Jeremy."

Jeremy smiled a little, as if relieved to see her, "Hey Syd. Just saw a whole bunch of newbies..."

Sydney nodded enthusiastically, "Oh yes!" she handed Jeremy her coffee to hold for a second while she flipped through the papers on her clipboard, "You, Evan and Rebbecca are triple teaming just two interns, this year. I think Emily said it was because of all of your busy schedules? But you will also get any stragglers that come in."

Jeremy sighed, "Oh. who?" He stood in the doorway of the lounge with one hand on the door, still with Sydney's coffee in his hand awaiting her answer.

"Hmm. Zoe Laudra and...Tyson Cromwell." Sydney smiled up to Jeremy and flipped her papers back down, taking her coffee back in her possession, "thanks."

"Great, thanks." Jeremy said, unenthusiastically.

He began to push the door open to the lounge, but Sydney cut in, "Hey, I'm about to run up to the cafeteria for a bite...want to join?"

"Yeah, the one and only." I said not quite sure if she was looking for a friend or a fight. "And you are?" I asked jokingly she took it serious.

"I'm Zoe." She shrunk back as if she felt hurt.

"I'm kidding." I smiled, ((brighten up the room)) "So I'm guessing this whole intern thing is suppose to be like.... Kindergarden huh?" I laughed.

She smiled and chuckled.
"Yeah," Zoe said, still laughing a bit before continuing.

"So, what's your story? Where are you from? What got you into this? All that stuff." Zoe asked, after taking a bite of a piece of what looked like a Peach.

"Well..." Sugar started.

Daniel Aster

"I'm not an invalid yet," Daniel replied with a laugh as he threw the covers back but he leaned lightly on the bedside table as he was standing up. Isabella looked a little unsure but then shrugged.

"It's this way-"

"To the cafeteria," Daniel cut in with a smile. "I know, I've been here before." He passed through the door first but then held it open for Isabella to enter through and walked at her side towards the cafeteria.

"What was you in for last time?" Isabella asked.

"My blood was clogging up. I've forgotten the medical term for it but I'm pretty sure that was the last time I was here." He reached a crossroads of hallways and took the left fork, leading directly into the cafeteria.

"That must have been awful, how long ago was it?" Isabella and Daniel collected trays and began to select their lunches.

"About six months ago," Daniel said. "And it wasn't so bad. I quite enjoyed all the attention actually." They chattered a little more as they neared the tills and Daniel took out his wallet, insisting on paying for both meals.

"Daniel? Well I'll be, what've they got yer in fer this time?" A slender, soft faced woman asked as she accepted his money.

"I just couldn't stay away from you, my dear," Daniel replied with a fond smile. "Why don't you take a break and join us for lunch, Natalie?" The woman shook her head and tutted.

"Some of us have work to do around here." Daniel grinned.

"Another day then," he said as he led Isabella over to a vacant table.

Roxanne

The canteen was crowded by the time I arrived but I joined the queue and selected a tuna and sweetcorn jacket potato with salad for my lunch. I glanced briefly around the hall but the vacant seats were mostly next to patients. There was on, however, that currently seated only two women who were quite clearly a couple of the new interns. I decided to sit there and piled my papers around my lunch tray, the universal code for 'do not disturb.'

As the girls continued to chatter about their experiences so far, I organised a few of my patient files and scrawled notes across the pages with a black biro. I tapped it against the desk thoughtfully, trying to work out if I had space for another patient but the odds were looking low. There was always someone wanting to be squeezed in but with the surgery rooms all in use by myself or other surgeons and no room to manouvre, it just couldn't be done.

"Uh... could you not do that?" One of the women asked. I paused in my tapping, holding the pen still as I looked up at the blonde, baby-doll faced woman.

"I'm sorry that it bothers you," I said, looking back at my papers and absently tapping the pen against the desk again. I didn't quite mean to do it but neither was I making a conscious effort not tol. I wasn't here to make friends and it helped me think and whatever got the job done should be done.

Emily Jane Darcy

Interns. Emily Darcy shook her head as she walked through the corridor, easily twisting between any oncoming traffic. It wasn’t that she didn’t like interns; they were cute and wide eyed and sometimes they even gave good opinions, it was just that they were so... new. She’d have to keep an eye on the residents – a special eye on her residents – they didn’t always take well to new children.

She went over the lists, flipping her clipped pages up and down as she mulled over her choices. It was hard to place the right interns with the right resident, seeing as she didn’t know their personalities. Raynor coming in late didn’t help things either, this was not the day to be messing about, not that any day really was... but intern day. Really.

As she glanced to the side, watching Ban Morrow talking to one of the interns, she noticed a clock on the wall, suggesting it was time she had a bite to eat. With a dismissive glance towards Morrow – whatever it was, he’d deal with it himself – she strode more purposely towards the canteen, mentally debating how much she had in her pocket and who would be there to bother her.

Pushing the canteen door open she surveyed the room, there was a knot of patients with their family centred in the middle of the room, with a spattering of interns, nurses and doctors around the outskirts and on the balcony. She identified and singled out the interns first, seeing where they sat, the ones that were there. They would soon learn that lunch was something to take when you could, hospitals don't run on business times. She was, however, glad to see a little mingling, with Roxanne Peters sitting with some interns. Peters was, of course, working but at least she'd picked some new kids to sit with - they might learn something.

Emily sighed, walking over to the canteen line and beginning her food selection, before paying and making her stride purposeful as she moved to a table in the back corner. From here she could keep an eye on the room and her wayward children.

Des Keating-Parker

New intern day. There was no more dreaded--or anticipated--day in the Chief of Surgery's calendar. Every year it was the same thing: a royal mess. But by now her eye was expertly trained in seeing the potential masterpiece in each component to that mess--to be more precise, her interns. Oh, they were utterly untrained, naive, idealistic, and had no idea what they were getting into. They all thought they'd end up in Grey's Anatomy or ER, or some other daily drama--and they all had another thing coming. Television would be the death of medicine, in Des' opinion.

This afternoon she would be meeting with all of the interns in one of the meeting rooms to give them the "down-low"--or whatever it was called--on life at Columbia Mercy Hospital. This was her hospital, and while she had every intention of devoting the next two years to these interns--her children, as she thought of them with a pang--and seeing to it that they became the best doctors possible, her first loyalty was to Columbia. She'd be damned if she didn't see that these kids became something that would bring credit and prestige to her hospital.

"Good morning, Dr. Keating," a resident murmured as they passed her outside the cafeteria. She nodded her greeting back and smiled, but her attention was fixed on the interns (and their already harried residents) settling into the tables. They were a good-looking lot, and Des knew from experience that attractive faces led to nothing but drama. This year was going to be interesting.

Note: Just so anyone who only skimmed that knows, Des is the Chief of Surgery and has called a meeting at one o'clock in a conference room of the hospital to meet all of the new interns, so take that into account, please.

Emily Jane Darcy

There was a sudden, but tiny, lull in conversation that made Emily look away from the balcony and toward the cafeteria doors. Doctor Modesty Keating, chief of surgery, had just walked in. Emily grinned with a quick twist at the corner of her lips and waved to catch her attention, gesturing the revered doctor over. The doctor moved quickly through the line and between the tables before slapping her tray down on the table.

She smirked at the harried looking woman, “Doctor Keating! What brings you to our little cafeteria? I thought you'd be off lunching at your desk?”

“Have to keep an eye on the kids. Have you gotten a look at them yet?” Des scowled slightly, poking at her food slowly “They look like trouble.”

Emily laughed brightly, shifting her papers so that the tray fit more easily “They always look like trouble. Do you think they're especially troublesome this year? They're certainly green around the gills.”

“And the gills are too attractive for my tastes! The kids who'd want to be actors ten years ago want to be doctors now; it's turning into the new Hollywood, I swear. Oy gevalt.” She dropped her fork against her plate of pasta. “They're going to be sleeping around in no time.”

“Des! You put such little faith in their little flippers. Although... you're right, we've a rather handsome bunch about us. Should we start a pool?” Emily winked, knowing the answer was yes before the answer came, thought she still waited for the moment it took for Des to decide.

There was a glint in her eye. “I'll put twenty on the fact that the good looking black fellow with the hat beds at least one of the girls within the first month. He's too charming not to strike their dear, Disney-fettered little fancies.”

“Gah.” Emily threw her hands up “You would pick the easy one, wouldn't you. What’s the bet we've got an ambitious one? I'll put a tenner on one of the girls tossing the covers with a res in no time, say two months.”

The corner of Des' lips creased as she grinned back “you're on. Now, what do you think the chances are of a tryst inside CMH walls...?”

Emile smirked, throwing her head back slightly with a noise of stoppered laughter. “Oooh. You'll not get me on that one, Madame Modesty! Way too easy to bet on. One's probably already started.”

Des snorted in return “Don't tell me these things. I'd have to put them on bedpan duty for a month. She sighed; eyes tired “I'm not going to let this crop go bad, Em.”

“Ah, Des. No worries, aye? I've got an eye on my kids, and those interns not as stupid as they look. Pretty, yes, but they're all here on marks - I checked them all out myself.” Emily put out a hand, patting Des’ softly, with full understanding.

“All right. We’d better keep a close watch on them, though.” A fey grin shot onto her face “what d'you want to bet at least one leaves after the scare I'm going to give them this afternoon?

Emily raised her eyebrow slowly “Doctor Keating... You're on. Fifty says not one of them scarpers after this arvo. “

Des grinned at her friend as she picked up her fork - and Emily shuffled her papers - poking at her food again “we'll see.”

"Well, I was uh rich little girl and I like to suprise people with my actions-" I started.

"Is that bad?" Zoe asked raising one eyebrow.

"Well.... No, but-" The tapping sound came from a distance. I had such a bad childhood and that tapping noise was always there. "I was offered alot of money and alot of modeling jobs and stuff like that, but it's not who I wanted to be."

"Well why not?" Zoe asked.

"I dunno, I just don't want everyone to think I'm a brainless blonde I wanna be someone. But not in fame like that." I finally breathed.

"But your like a pretter marlyin monroe."

"It's just not me." I shrugged still smiling.

"I guess I get what your saying. You'd rather be a person, than a Britney or a Paris?" She said, more a comment than a question.

"Sorta." Sugar responded, nodding slowly, before continuing on. "And what's your story?"

"Nothing too big." She started. "My Mother and Father got divorced, she married someone else, wasn't a very good person, on drugs, alcoholic. She later divorced him also, and got back with my dad. We moved out of California to here, so I could do this. The reason I wanting to do this, was to help people; and I guess being a doctor you help plenty of people." Zoe said.

"Yeah." I nodded, playing with a paper coffee cup on my hand. I noticed her eyes and I smiled larger, "Hey has anyone told you, you have great eyes?" I said getting closer to her just to find out the distinct color.

"umm. No?" She said blushing.

"Well you so do, where's you lunch?" I asked.

"I didn't bring one." She looked around.

"Neither did I." I smiled. "I wonder what we're doing after this...." I trailed off, probably sounding as blonde as could be.

She laughed, "Sugar-Beth your like a life size barbie."

I laughed too.
