Coraline:
I stopped, not sure if I believed what I was about to say, "No, there's no such thing as.." There's no such thing as vampires, there's no such thing as vampires. I said the words over and over in my head, but as his smile revealed abnormally sharp teeth and he did seem to move at an alarming speed, I began to be less and less sure of what was real.
I shook my head, "This is inasne, I'm insane. This island has gotten to my head, I'm probably imagining the whole thing!" I put my hands to my head and began to pace. I was really losing it, I mean it was bound to happen sooner or later. I just thought I would be a bit older when I finally went insane, well I hoped is more like it. But no, I was finally turning into what I had been trying to avoid. I was turning into my mother. They would probably put me on medication just like her.
"You're not insane." He said, and I just shook my head.
"You're not real, you're not real. God Cora pull yourself together!" I screamed at myself. This island was too much I had to get away, I had to get off this island.
I ran and ran and ran. I ran all the way to the beach and collapsed into the sand. There was a whole in the boat, most likely another hallucination. That was how it all started with my mother, hallucinations. Then she stopped sleeping and walked around the house talking to creatures of her imagination. Then they put her on the meds and she wasn't my mom anymore. The whole situation weighed heavily on both of my parents and they couldn't handle the fact that I couldn't handle it. We just stopped talking and getting along. Avoiding the real problems.
I layed sideways on the beach and watched the waves crash against the sand, it was dark now. Soon my eyelids became heavy, I fought the sleep. Then I felt myself being lifted up off the ground, and I felt safe and fell into sleep.
