Kaleb didn't relieze what time it was until he heard Syb's soft snores. She only did that when she was really out. He looked at the clock and frowned. "Better turn in." Colt yawned.
"Yup, see you later." THey kept their voices down and Colt left as Kaleb picked up Syb and carried her to their room laying her down then curling up next to her keeping her close. "I love you.' He whispered in her hair as he drifted off to sleep.
I bit my lip nervously as I looked at the door in front of me. I reached nervously for Kaleb's hand but didn't find it. I looked to the side to see him but he was gone. My eyes opened, panicked, but it didn't stop me from going foward. I was sure that my dad would change, I was just sure of it. Once he saw that he was going to be a grandfather he would change.
I got up to the front door and took a deep breath before I knocked three times. A moment or two later the door opened and my father stood there with a scowel on his face.
"What do you want?" he asked.
"I wanted to introduce you to your grandchild."
His eyes widened first in amazement and then in anger. "Who's the father?"
I smiled, "my husband, Kaleb."
He scowled deeper but attempted to force a happy smile, "won't you come in?"
I paused, unsure about if I should or shouldn't. But finally I stepped inside the door. "Syb! Wait!" I turned around grinning when I saw Kaleb jogging towards us. But my dad didn't let him inside. He slammed the door in his face and locked it, dragging me by the arm to the livingroom.
"Dad!" I screamed clawing at his arm trying to pry it off me.
"You're not going to have his child," was all he growled. Horror washed through me, my efforts to pry myself away redoubled. He threw me on the couch. "Don't move," he ordered and dissappeared into another room.
The urge to flee was too strong to ignore. I stood up and raced as fast as I could to the front door where I tried to open the lock, I managed to unclick it before I felt hands gripping my hair and pulling me back.
"I said don't move," he barked before he threw me to the floor.
He hadn't bothered to re-lock the door and so there was nothing to prevent Kaleb from opening it. He knocked my father off balence and he fired a shot, just narrowly missing my head. Dad switched from at my feet to at my head. He pointed the gun at Kaleb, I sat up and tried to get to my feet, I stood in front of him for just a second before the gun went off...
I awoke with a start, feeling a moment's pain in my back shoulder before neausea rolled through me. I barely made it to the bathroom before I lost the remains of the steak and potatoes from the night before. I threw up a couple more times before Kaleb appeared. He helpped me to my feet and brushed my teeth and then I collappesed into him. He stroked my back and hair as I laid down by the toilet letting the neausea take me.
"The neausea didn't wake you up this time did it?" he asked with concern. He knew me too well.
"No it didn't," I said tearing up and cringing at the memory of the dream.
"What did then?"
"A nightmare." I admitted.
I felt his lips in my hair, "tell me about it."
I knew I was crying as I started spilling it all out. I told him every detail of the dream, even how it had smelled like my dad was drunk, and my dad never drank and all the little tiny details that somehow meant more than anything else in the world for some reason. All except that I had referred to Kaleb as my husband. Maybe I was just being OCD I didn't know.
When finally the nasuea passed I stood up and brushed my teeth again. Finally feeling a little better. "I need to go to the bookstore today," I said, "I want to know how long this morning sickness will last."
After a quick breakfast of an egg and sausage sandwich we went to the library and picked out every book on pregnancy they had. The lady at the desk looked us over and smiled, "first timers?"
I nodded grinning. "Yes."
She smiled again, "the morning sickness passes after the first month."
I frowned, I didn't like that, "really?"
She nodded, "though you stop puking after a week or two. You're just a little neasous."
"Oh," I breathed on a relieved sigh and smile. "That's good news."
After we were done with the library we went to play the casinos a little more. Kaleb stayed right by my side during my rounds on the blackjack table. I could tell he was getting bored so I gathered up my chips and we went to play dice. Kaleb was having an even better night than usual. We probably made out with around a hundred thousand dollars from the three casinos that we hit.
"We've had a pretty productive day haven't we?" Kaleb said as we left the bank.
"Very productive," I agreed on a smile before I frowned something suddenly coming to me, "our apartment only has one bedroom."
Kaleb frowned too apparently just having realized that himself. "Thats right."
"Maybe we should look for a bigger and slightly more legitimate apartment."
(******WOW, long post, now your gonna hate me cause mine is so short.*****
Kaleb:
"WE could get a house with out funds." He smiled. "And I"m sure there is one out here that won't look at our ages."
"If thye do Colt would probably sign for it." Syb smiled.
"I'm sure he wouldn't, we could even see if he wanted to live with us, if we find one with a garage with an apartment over it." Kaleb looked at her. "Would you be ok with that?"
I grinned, "I would love that." He wrapped an arm around my waist as we started walking back to the truck. I grinned at the thought of staying close to Colt as well. "He's just like my dad...but better." I said on a smile.
Kaleb laughed, "I'm pretty sure he sees us as his kids too."
"I wouldn;t be surprised, he is pretty cool, now let's find a place before we invite him in." He smiled as they drove out to the country part of Vegas. "What exactly do you want in a house?"
Kaleb laughed. "Good thing we can do that." He smiled as they pulled into a nice little country looking cottage with a garage that was teh first house for sell they saw.
AFter six more houses Kaleb was ready to die. "What happened to no preference?" He yawned.
KAleb nodded and drove back to their house. "Then we'll hit the casinos and refund what we spent on the house. We'll have enough to pay for it in cash not matter what hte price." HE smiled softly at her. "We'll have the best nursery out there."
"I like hte sounds of htat." She smiled.
"Well get used to it. We'll take a break from it as we get closer to your due date." He said, "I'm not letting you near a casino when you get close."
Kaleb carried Syb to the couch and sat down next to her puling out the for sale listings. They poured hour over hour over then marking ones that looked good, and ones that there was not a chance.
"How about this one?" He said pointing to one that read.
Plantation style home with garage and apartment. Two story house, beautiful view, barn, twenty acres.
