Sorcerer's Academy

plot: Cast, basically ones class in society. First come the Royals, members of the royal family. Then they are followed by the Council members and their families, afterwards come the Nobles. Then come the Warriors, members of the army. Then come Peasants, the normal working class. And they are followed by the slaves. In the world of Melody, cast is everything. It decides your way of life, the jobs you can get, the conditions you live in, and what you can do with your life. Your Cast is determined by the family you are born into, and it is IMPOSSIBLE to step outside of those boundaries.

However, there is one exception. The Sorcerer's Cast, those born with magical abilities. Magical power is not inherited by blood, and knows no cast boundaries. If he had magic, the child of a slave could wield more power then the King himself. But magical power is rare, the odds of a child being born with the ability is 1:100,000. It is difficult to gain control over such rare power, so each of Melody's six kingdom's came together to create the Sorcerer's Academy. Every child born with magical power is sent there immediately after their power manifests, usually between the ages of 13-17.

At Sorcerer's Academy the students get the best education, they're trained in everything from the history of Melody, to magical and physical combat.

Behind the walls of Sorcerer's Academy, power rules over cast, the stronger you are, the higher your Cast in society once you graduate. You could be a Council adviser, or a General in the army, depending on how you developed and mastered your abilities at the school. War means nothing in the halls of the school, people from country to country would ally together, even if their homelands were at war. Every student at the school is struggling to be in the top twenty of their graduating class, and those who are older try to crush those younger and more talented then them. Though it seems like a paradise, in reality the school is run by a ruthless race to the top.

For the top twenty of the graduating class are officialy adopted by the Royal families of their homelands. You are a talented member of the freshman class at the school, can you survive the machinations of those above you. Make, allies and enemies, at the end of it all will you be among the top twenty? And maybe along the way, you'll manage to make some true friends.

personality- Kai is one of those people with a volcanic personality. Stubborn, reckless and competitive in the extreme. Extremely loyal to his friends. A short temper and slightly naive, sarcastic and a smartass. He is prideful and arrogant, but curious about the world around him. A cunning tactician, Kai has his own, very strange honor code, and will follow it even when it clashes with the rules of society. A bad liar. Has the tendency to follow his heart before his head. The type who likes to fight for the sake of fighting and is constantly looking for strong rivals.
background- born a to a mining slave family, Kai grew up exploring and excavating the mines of the Jewel Mountain Range. Which fostered his adventurous personality, although he's small he is well muscled from the work. His parents and twin sister died in a cave-in when he was young, so he grew up with his grandfather, who loved nature and taught him to hunt in the mountain forests.
abilities- Combat type, his abilities are mainly elemental. But he can also shape shift, the first time he shifted he couldn't change back fully, thus he is stuck with fox ears and a tail.

homeland- Restehna. (Assuming I get to make up traits). An Island Archipelago, relying on ships and trade as well as a few fertile islands for resources and commerce.

appearance- Tall, pale but well-bodied. A mass of curly black hair and bright green eyes. Has a few warrior tatoos on his shoulderblades and upper arms.

personality- Shy (especially so for his Cast). Very intelligent, but hides it because it was not his place to be intelligent (he isn't the son of a general or the royal family).

background- The youngest of seven sons. Overshadowed by his eldest brothers and fathers achievements, and lacking the brutality to be a very good member of the warrior Cast, Jarra became quiet to avoid attention. The discovery that he had brains was met with embarrassment by his family, the discovery that he was to be sent to the Sorcerer's Academy was met with relief (his family expects him to fail, but it is better to be a failed sorcerer than a failed warrior).

abilities- quite skilled with a staff, but his father forbade him to use it as it is considered a feminine weapon by the Restehna Warrior Caste. Pretty hopeless with blades, adequate with a bow. First showed power with limited invisibility. Will exhibit control of air and water later.

personality- She is quiet, she had to stay in her house with her mother while her seven older brothers fought. They all taught her to fight behind their parents back though. She learned very quickly how to use anything as a weapon. She likes using long objects best though, like swords, sticks, that sort. But she was good at most anything. She didn't trust anyone outside her family, and never has, there have been to many times when someone tried to bring her harm.

background- I kinda said most of it in her personality. Oh, her parents tried to hide her when they found out she had powers, she dind't want to go to the school, but the Royals son found out she had them and immediatly took her away to be sent to the school.

abilities- She is a fighter, (She personality.) She can already control fire and earth, sense she has the ability to focus. She hasn't mastered it though. But she has control over all elements, just not very good at most of them. Those are the two she is best at. She can also heal.

Personality: Descending from a Royal Family, Alexey is used to getting his way, and being above others. Though he can stubborn, he can still be kind, a little sarcastic, but he believes in honor, which makes him loyal and honest. His sheltered life has led him to be a bit naïve, and gullible. He could be a leader, if he were not so busy trying to get ahead of the group. He can also be self centered, especially when it comes to his looks.

Background: He grew up living a very lavish lifestyle, and hasn’t had to work very hard. His family was concerned when they found out he had magic abilities, afraid he would shame them all by not reaching the top of his class, thus, all of them have provoked him and warned him that he must do well at the academy.

Abilities: Alexey deals mainly with molecules, them apart and putting them together to form different things. He can expand, shift, or enlarge molecules. This is very helpful, except when it comes to some rocks, salt, or metals that are only made up of atoms or ions.

personality- Appears gentle and unassuming but is very quick witted and doesn't suffer fools gladly.

background- She was adopted by a noble family but doesn't know what cast she came from before. She was happy to discover her ability as she had never felt she belonged.

abilities- She specialises in invisibility (but only for a short time) and water. She is good at combat but only with wooden weapons such as archery and using a staff.

familiar- A golden eagle called Crow.

appearance- Dead sexy--at least he likes to think so. Average height and quite thin, with short red hair and hazel eyes. He has pale skin, and favors tight, shiny garb. Usually leather or something similar. Also wears very long, black boots that he has a vague love affair with. Polishes them daily.

personality- Confident narcissist. Large ego--very large. And a tremendous flirt. Will help a girl in need, but never a guy. Mostly harmless, however, being a bit of bumbler. Wish he was skilled with weapons and or offensive magic, but is truly terrible with both. Although he tries.

background- Raised in a family, most of whom mirror his own personality to a T. Has a younger sister, and is very overprotected. When he's actually thinking about, it which isn't actually that often, he frets constantly about her when he's away, vowing silent vengeance on any male who dare attempt to court her. The nobles of Danar, a country covered mostly with desert, live along the coast, where things are greener and nicer.

abilities- Defensive magic: healing, barriers and the like. Attempts other forms occasionally, but the results are usually disastrous.

familiar- A gull named Loop.

*okay enough people have joined, we start the story on the first day at the academy, two days before classes, orientation and that stuff. Just so you know there's a small city surrounding the school but you need special permission to go to the city. Except on Saturdays, that's free time. And a big ass forest behind the school where they do combat training, cause their are monsters there. Keep in mind right now none of them really excel at magic, since they've had no training, they are ALL prone to blowing things up.*

*another note, the top twenty thing is an assessment that occurs every seven years and is conducted on the whole school, but thus far, only seniors have passed.

Academy Day1- Kai:

Kai set his bags down and glanced around the dorm room. It was a double, with two beds, two desks, two chairs, two closets, etc. Kii had jumped off his shoulder and was bouncing on the comfortable bed. Still in his little cutesy baby form, Kii only ever used his older form in battle.

The window was opened wide onto the beautiful school grounds. He could see a lake off in the distance sunlight glinting off water. HE sat down on the bed rubbing his hands over the thick blanket, it was finer then anything a mere Slave would ever have.

And was why everyone wanted to got to Sorcerer's Academy, it was like winning the lottery, the chance of a lifetime. He looked over at Kii, in this form the silver fox only had two tails. "We're finally here Kii. Everyone here is one in a hundred thousand. It's exciting, I wonder who my room mate will be?"

*any one can take the room mate slot, all freshmen have either double or triple rooms so choose wisely.*

Name- Dexen (Dex) Harker

Appearance-
-Build: Tall, slim, and graceful.
-Eyes: Brown with a hint of butterscotch and green mixed in.
-Hair: Dirty blond. Reaches his jaw line and curls slightly. Normally messy looking.
-Face: Heart shaped, very precise features, and light freckles.
-Distinguishing Marks/Flaws: Multiple small scars on his hands, face, and chest. A much larger scar going from shoulder blade to opposite hip on his back. He also has a black tattoo on his right shoulder.
-Clothing: Usually wears darker colors (black, dark red, gray, etcetera) with the occasional white mixed in. Can sometimes be seen with a black cloak with a hood and possibly a cape (depending on the weather). Simple, worn black boots, and a green pendant necklace. He carries a silver dagger and a white-wood staff around with him almost everywhere.

Personality- Dexen is peaceful, loyal, gentle, and understanding. He shows sighs of great leadership skills, though he has no such desire to become one. He prefers to stick by himself, enjoying the company of his familiar and rarely anyone else. Despite his seemingly calm and tranquil nature, beneath the surface Dexen is troubled and fiery. He has a hot and quick temper if you get him ticked, and if he's really mad he'll just turn cold and icy. He usually hides these emotions away, partly because he's ashamed, and partly because he's scared of them. Scared he might hurt someone. He resents violence unless it's an absolute necessary self-defense.

Background- Born as the third son to one of the Council Members who is - or was - in high favor of the Royals. When he was young, one of his older brothers had been beaten badly, almost to the point of death, after getting jumped in the streets. That night, his father learned what happened and had thrown a fit. Without realizing what he was doing and without meaning to, he had picked up a sword and accidentally sliced open Dexen's back, nearly resulting in his death as well. After that, Dexen had decided to become nearly completely anti-violent, or pacifistic, though he would still carry a dagger with him when he went out as self-defense. Then, when he was older, he was discovered with magical powers and had been taken to the Academy. He had, despite his peaceful and pacifistic nature, shown true talent in the art of offensive magic.

Abilities- He has shone considerable skill in combatant magic. Most of his power lies with fire, dark, and light magicks (Dark being something similar to necromancy, but not quite). He has very minute skills in transforming, but normally stays away from that since he isn't very good with it (his last attempt resulted in something resembling a mix between a toad and a bird...). He can fight with daggers and a staff.

Familiar- A shape-shifting animal named Dez. He can only shift into three animals: A weasel/ferret thing, a raven, or a a small cat.

Other- He might be up for love, he might not be. Ask me via PM and I'll tell you if you can claim him or not.

Jarra shouldered his bags as he pushed open the door to the dorm room. Behind him, Timothy hopped around the cobbled floor, peeking out windows whenever he reached the top of his jump - he was too young to fly.

Jarra opened the door, and was surprised to see his roommate already there; Jarra himself being early.

The boy turned around, and Jarra was shocked to see that like his familiar, this boy had a tail and ears of a fox! Unsure how to greet this phenomenon, Jarra dumped his bags on his own bed to by him a few seconds. He turned around to offer some kind of hello, but the other boy beat him to it.

"Hey, my name's Kai, look's like I'm your roommate. This is Kii he's my familiar, which means..." the boy stopped talking for a second as Timothy peeked around the corner of the door before gambolling into the room.
"I guess you already know what I mean," he finished.

Jarra smiled at him. "Aye. I'm Jarra Fin from the Fin warrior clan, Restehna Warrior cast."

There was an awkward pause, wherein Jarra guessed Kai had been either a peasant or a slave.

Timothy, still jumping around foolishly, took a playful swipe at Kii as he passed. The small fox cub suddenly tranformed into a fairly large nine tailed fox, which chased Timothy around the dorm to the hilarity of both of the boys.

When Timothy had gotten himself out of harms way, by hiding on top of Jarra's cupboard; and was eyeing Kii (once again in his small form) who was bouncing on Kai's bed, the boys turned back toward one another.

"What do we do now?" asked Jarra.

Sam~

Sam strode through the halls, Tyke, who was in small form was sitting on her hat, waving his tail left to right slowly and surveying the veiw from Sam's head. "You're annoying sometime," Sam smiled, scratching Tyke's head. He purred softly. Sam came to an abrupt stop right in front of her dorm and opened the door, looking around the room. There were two of everything. She tossed her bag in te coner and fell onto the bed, groaning at the thought of having a roommate.

Kai-

"I don't know about you but I'm dying to check out the school. If even half the rumors are true, this place is riddled with secret passages." The boys left there bags in the rooms and went off to explore the campus.
