Maximum Ride: The New Breed

Reed-

"You handled that smoothly." I said to Stella as she came over.

She smiled, "Thanks!" then paused for a second before asking, "How were the wounds on your leg healed so quickly?"

"I told them to heal." I replied.

"Is that part of your power?" she asked.

"I guess so. Do you notice how much I like the sun?" I asked. She nodded in reply so I went on, "Well," I said softly so no one else could hear, "I absorb solar and electrical energy, I just feel the power in me and I send it to a wound or something."

I knew I hadn't explained it that well to her, but she nodded her head, satisfied with the answer I had given.

[Stella]

"So...uh...your kinda like a plant."

Reed laughed, "Yeah, sure, that works. I'm a plant."

"Hey! I was just making an observation!" I shot a glare at him.

"So, you think I'm as intelligent as a plant, do you?" Reed laughed harder.

"No, of course not. Plants are smarter than you." The effect of his glare was ruined by his smile. He suddenly shifted and the sunlight nearly blinded me. "Ouch." I closed my eyes.

"You okay?"

"Yeah. My eyes have always been sensitive to light. No biggy."

"You sure you okay?"

"Yes! I'm fine." My stomach started to rumble. "Just hungry."

Reed-

"Dang it!" I exclaimed, "I forgot with Lexy being hurt and all."

"Forgot what?" Stella asked me.

"My surprise." I said as I walked over to Mayze.

"What surprise?" Mayze asked me.

"Well it's kind-of ruined anyway with Lexy getting injured, but there is a nice apple orchard not to far from here where we could spend the day. If you think that Lexy could make it there that is?"

*XD You kind of had me worried for a bit with your surprise... after what your older sister told you that you should do and you emailed me.*

*Actually, I have nothing to write...*

(Lexy)

While she tried to pull it out I caught her hand.

"Don't. I'll do it." I was already sweating and breathing hard. I grabbed the side of the stick through my unusable hand. I pulled and screamed at the same time. When I pulled it out blood was pooled all over it. I threw the stick at the ground and yelled,

"sonova-!"

"Wow." Stella said blocking out my curse.

"It's ok I'm fine it's not like I'll ever use it again. Might as well cut it off." I said joked. "Let's go. We're still in rat territory."

"Wait, hold on! Why did you fall out of the sky anyways?" ZT asked.

"I didn't eat remember?" I said opening my wings but then they shot into my back and I fell to the ground holding my forehead.

"Lex what's wrong?" Stella said.

"It's nothing!" I said quickly, trying to protect my secret.

*don't really kow what the secret is... I'll make it up as I go along.*

**Way to wing it!**

[Stella]

“No, seriously, what’s wrong? It’s not really normal to suddenly collapse like that.”

“Normal isn’t really in our vocabulary.” Lexy muttered.

“Now you’re avoiding the subject all together.” Mayze pointed out. Lexy glared at her.

“Lexy, what’s wrong?” Rose asked, bending down to touch Lexy lightly on her shoulder.

I glanced around. All the flock was here, waiting for Lexy. I wasn't yet, but I could imagine them getting impatient. "Lexy!" someone called. "We need to get out of here... what's the secret?"

*Holding your forehead, eh? Is there a lightning-bolt scar up there telling you to watch out for whitecoats??? lol*

[Blade]

"Lexy," Blade added, "You can trust us. We're a flock, birds of a feather." She smiled at her own joke and waited for Lexy. The flock had to trust each other, or they weren't a flock.

Reed-

"Guys" I said to everyone, "can you leave Lexy alone.

(Rose)

Lexy gently tried to shrug off Rose's hand. She was staring at the ground, avoiding the waiting looks from the flock. She sighed and closed her eyes.

Rose's ankle gave way and she let go off Lexy and grabbed Mayze's arm. Mayze helped her up quickly then crouched down next to Lexy. She looked up slowly.
"I really think you should tell us," She said calmly.

There was tension as the flock hoped Lexy would tell them. They all shuffled back to give her more space.
"Please Lexy" she said softly.

(ZT)

I waited, wanting to tell her to say it too... but it had been said twice, I wouldn't repeat it.

So I simply waited... silently.

Stella]

I raised my eyebrows a bit at Blade's comment. Lexy looked a bit distressed.

"We're all worried about you, Lex. Blade's right, you can trust us."

(Lexy)

"If I told you, I'd have to kill you."

I said seriously as I broke out my wings blinking back my tears as I flew up into the sky. I probably meant it too. I had shadows behind my back and mistakes I wasn't proud of. My whole flock wasn't going to find out now. I had a promise that I swore on my life I would keep a secret. If the person ever found out I told my whole flock would be dead in a second. Reed wasn't the one who couldn't be trusted it was me who couldn't be trusted.....

*sorry for the cliff hanger i have to go *

Reed-

"Gosh!" I yelled at the rest of the people on the ground, "couldn't you guys have been a little more understanding."

And then I took of after Lexy.
