Kai was writing something on a piece of paper when Audra came over. She took a seat beside him and said, "Aren't you lonely, sitting here all by yourself?"

Kai made a low chuckle as he turned his head to toward her. "I was until you showed up." His voice was a low growl when he spoke.

Audra felt heat rushing up to her face. She never reacted to a guy like this before. She tried to change the subject before she did something embarrassing. "So, you almost finished the essay?" she asked, motioning toward the paper he was writing on.

"The essay's done," he said.

"Really? You're already finished?" She couldn't keep the surprise out of her voice.

"Yeah, I'm working on something else right now."

"So, what class are you working on right now?" Audra asked.

"None, this is something I like to do in my spare time."

She took a closer look at what he was writing. She spotted a few words like 'dragon' and 'sword' in most of the paragraphs. "So, you actually like to write?" She made sure the skepticism was clear in her voice.

Kai propped his face on his hand and gave her lazy eyes. "Tell me something. Have you ever written something just for the sake of writing it, not because somebody else made you?"

Bella~

I walked into the lunchroom, bagged lunch in hand. I was one of hte few kids who still brought sandwiches in brown-paper bags, and stuff like that. At least my mother didn't leave little notes like she did when I was in elementary school.

Even after going to school here for my whole life, I didn't like most of hte people. Alice was my best friend, but I dind't see her anywhere. I looked at the back table, where we normally sat together.

A new girl sat there.

Slowly, I walked over and sat across from her, smiling.

"Hi, I'm Bella," I said kindly, pulling out a Tuna sandwich. "Want some?"

I blinked as I felt someone sit down at my table and unconsciously shifted away. I glanced up.

"Hi, I'm Bella," the girl said, holding out a small slice of Tuna sandwich. "Want some?"

I shook my head slowly. "N-no thanks. 'M not hungry." I said in a small voice, hunching my shoulders even more.

I chuckled, examining the new girl. She was a little shy, I think. It looked that way at least.

"What's your name?" I asked, biting into the sandwich and pulling out a notebook.

"I-I'm Ariel," she replied softly, looking up at me.

"Ariel...I like that, it's pretty. When'd you move here?"

Ariel-

"Uh, j-just last week," i stuttered. "I'm new."

I glanced curiously at her notebook, then forced my eyes to look somewhere else. They landed on my food and i grabbed another french fry and began nibbling on that absently.

I looked back up at Bella and, summoning up all my courage, asked, "And you?"

Bella~

I rolled my eyes, sighing loudly.

"I've been here for WAY too long. Since before I even went to school," I replied. "It's not bad here though ,really. You just have to watch out for a few people." Ariel watched me closely, still remaining quiet and nibbling on a fry. I stopped talking, feeling rather awkward (I didn't like one person conversations). Instead, I began writing in my notebook intently, hoping she wouldn't ask waht I was writing.

"Wh-What are you wr-writing?" she asked. Of course!

"I...um...well...it's kinda...hard to explain...?" I offered the answer quietly, stammering more than I normally would. Good lord I hated that question.

Ariel-

I debated pulling out my own notebook, but finally decided against it. I knew Bella was uneasy talking about her writing, but now she had me curious.

"I write too," i said softly. "And not just for school, either. I-I like to write a lot of stuff, like fantasy a-and, uh, scifi and, er, horror."

I hope i hadn't gone too far. Making friends was always difficult for me, no matter how hard i tried. And it seemed that the harder i tried, the harder it became. I bit my lip while waiting for her to say something, anything, to let me know i hadn't gone too far with the questions.

Alice

I sat in my corner, as usual, I was such a freak, hating big spaces, and small spaces at the same time. So corners fit me well so did the fancy colored yellow paged journal I was furiously scibbling in. As usual when my hand was flying that fast I was screaming at myself.

Getting angry at that fact I snapped my journal shut and dropped it on the ground next to me. I leaned my head against the walls fighting back the tears. I couldn't take it anymore at this point.

I rolled my sleeve up and grabbed my pen. Using this type of pen made it really hard to break the skin so I wasn't worried about ink poisioning, I just wanted pain. Running the tip over the sensitive part of my arm lightly made it hurt worse than actually cutting myself and less bloody. When I was done I rolled my sleve down and pushed my hand onto my arm as hard as I could trying to push the pain away. Now I remembered why I didn't do that a lot.

I looked up at the clock I was missing lunch. Whoop. I got up and went to the cafeteria, pulling my sleve down as far as it would go.
I just lost the game.

Bella~

"Really?" I always got so excited when meeting new writers. "My friend Alice is a writer too!" I looked around.

"What does she write?" Ariel seemed to be a bit more comfortable now.

"Romances and fantasy. A lot of vampire things right now, if I remember correctly. Oh look. there she is! ALICE!" I stood up, waving at Alice. She walked over and sat next to me, looking fairly more depressed than usual. "Alice, this is Ariel," I pointed, suddenly quite hyper again. "Ariel, this is ALice. Ariel writes," I added chipperly.

Alice

I tilted my head at the new girl, pretending to evaluate her worth. I knew it was mean, but it was one of my few joys to frighten new people. Faking my usual cheer I said, "I like you."

She looked at me as if I had lobsters crawling out of my ears, and a genuine laugh excaped my lips.

"I don't dislike people I don't know enough to not like. So automaticly I like you." I turned to Bella, "got a mars bar or something? I missed the line for lunch and I don't have anything stashed in my room."

"I think I do under my matress."

"Boarding school suck don't they?" I said trying to distract myself from my thoughts while stealing one of Bellas french fries.

"Only a lil," Bella teased.
I just lost the game.

"That wasn't mine..." I commented while Alice inhaled the fry. "Twas Ariels."

"Oh...sorry," Alice grinned. "Where's your lunch then?"

"Mom sent me food yesterday," I answered, holding up my paper bag. Alice grinned.

"REAL FOOD!!" she cried, reachign for it.

"No!" I pulled it away. "Tis mine!!'

Ariel-

I watched the two girls squabble over the bag of food, and i laughed softly. The feeling of being a mouse surrounded by a bunch of hungry cats slowly lessened until it wasn't there anymore as i watched the two friends. I laughed again.

Alice

I sighed and leaned back, not like I needed food, or really wanted it for that matter. I went to grab for my journal and realized that it wasn't there. I had left it in the hall.

"Holy freakin crap!" I shouted making Bella and the new girl jump.

"What?"

"I forgot my journal in the hall!" Not waiting to see if they followed me or not I took off running. If anybody got ahold of that journal and read its contents I'd be shut up in the councelers office for the rest of my school career, and my parents. Oh GOD no they'd give it to my parents. Living at home or away, having my parents know any more of me than was absoloutely necessary was like what I did to my arm, painful and unnecessary.

But I did the thing to my arm more often than I should.
I just lost the game.

"What room do you have?" I asked, turning back to Ariel.

"Um...163," she answered, looking down at her paper.

"Wait..." Alice turned, staring at me.

"That's our room!" I exclaimed excitedly.

"No way," Ariel was being a bit more talkative, and even sounded excited. "That's great."
