I jumped up and down and hugged Ninen. "That's so cool! Well, what do you want to do with the rest of the day?"

Ninen shrugged. "We could go and look at places to stay. I mean, we have jobs and everything, but we need a home."

I nodded and checked my purse. "I only have $20 cash, and about $200 in the bank. What about you?"

"I don't have any cash on my, but I have about $250 in the bank. I'm sure we could get one of those really cheap places. The rent's only like $150 a week."

I nodded. "I guess we could try it."

Ninen and I were just leaving, when someone called out our names.

*i'm changing from third person to first, it seems to be the most common*

Ninen

We turned and saw Max and Kevin crossing the room, coming toward us. Kevin looked more relieved than ever, and Max looked normal.

"Where the hell have you two been?" he asked.

"Looking for jobs," Riley said, "its a really long story. But we're going to look for apartments now, wanna come?"

"Why are you looking for an apartment?"

"Because we're not going back to either of our homes," I said. "With very good reasons."

"So what are you going to do?" Max asked.

"Rent a loft, they're really cheap in the south end of town; and with our new hours we can still go to school."
I just lost the game.

Kevin looked shocked, but Max just stood there, doing nothing.

"Why the hell aren't you going home?!" Kevin exploded, storming all over the place.

"Reasons that have nothing to do with you," I said. "So f*** off."

Kevin shook his head. "Riley, come on. See some sense, you can't live by yourself. It's too dangerous."

I turned my head slowly. "Too dangerous! Too dangerous! How old do you think I am? Dylan lives by himself! I know loads of people that live by themselves that are younger than me! Why aren't you concerned about their safety?"

Max looked ashamed, and then it dawned on me. "Oh, I get it. You're concerned because I'm a girl. That's it, isn't it?"

I stepped in then, "she's not going to be living alone, we're going to rent an apartment together."

Kevin looked shocked, "you're what?"

"We're going to rent an apartment together," Riley said, speaking slowly and clearly.

"So wait you're both not going home?"

I turned to Riley, "didn't we just explain this to him?"
I just lost the game.

Kevin

"You still can't... shouldn't..." I turned away again and clenched my fists in frustration. I couldn't help but feel worried, afraid, concerned, guilty and yes, there was a stroke of anger there.
"You can't tell us what to do," Riley spat, "I'm a girl. I'm independent. I'm not your sister so f****** deal with it!" With that Riley stormed out of the pub and with a half apologetic shrug for Max and then a flicker of sympathy and a scowl in my direction, Ninen hurried after her.

With their exit, tears began to trail down my face and I slouched into a seat at the bar.
"Wow. Harsh," Max murmured.
"No. I deserved that. I'll ring the girls. At least I know she's safe now and they can talk her round," I replied, pulling my mobile from my pocket with trembling fingers. Roxy answered straight away.
"Kevin, have you found them?"
"Yeah. They've decided to move out of their houses and get jobs."
"What?"
"I know. You'll have to talk to them."
"Why can't you?"
"They just stormed out of here... I didn't handle it too well..."
"Okay. We'll keep in touch."

After that, I turned to Max and managed a weak smile.
"Thanks for the help. You might want to go back to school now. Sorry for the trouble," I mumbled.

Max placed his hand on Kevin's shoulder. "You going to be OK, man?"

"Yeah, I'll be fine."

Max nodded and left the pub.

That's okay.

Kevin

I sat for a few minutes and, despite the early hour, called the bar tender across and ordered a drink.
"Bad day?" He asked casually.
"You could say bad life," I murmured, taking a gulp and then meeting his eyes.
"Want to talk about it?" He asked. I shook my head. He nodded in an understanding way and wandered off to serve the one other man in the bar.

I turned back to my drink, drained the glass and got up. Pulling out my wallet, I placed a few spare coins on the bar and then left the building. Outside, I took a deep breath of air and headed for home. Where else was I to go? I wasn't in the mood for school.

I opened the door and passed through the hall, into the living room. It is not a room I enter often but there's a photo in there that I needed to see. Sadie was such a pretty kid. In this photo, dark ebony locks frame a smooth, tanned face. Chocolate brown eyes watch you above an enigmatic smile. That smile is genuine. I know it is. That's why I like the photo. Then, the phone rang and I crossed the room and picked it up.
"Hello?"

Ninen grabbed my arm and pulled my off the road, just as a blurred truck went by.

"What the hell were you thinking?" Ninen screamed at me.

I shrugged. "I need to go home and get some clothes. I'll see you in a bit."

Ninen sighed. "But what if you get caught? Your family might be waiting for you."

I shrugged again. "I'll deal with that if the situation arises. But I'm not going to wear these clothes for the rest of my life, plus I have to find something to wear to work tonight."

I jerked my arm out of Ninen's grip and headed to my place. No one was home, fortunately. I grabbed a suitcase and threw in most of my clothes, a hairbrush, make-up, toothbrush and some cd's. Then I left through the window when I heard a car pull up.

Siren left home, her brother was yellin at someone that was on the phone. She sighed and walked to the bar. She saw Kevin talking on her phone so she sat down a few seats from him adn looked around. The bar tender walked over and frowned at her.

"Do you have any water?" She asked,

"Yea, hold on." He handed it to her she took a sip. Kevin yelled at whoever was on the phone and hung it up. "That guy must really have a hard life." The bar tender muttered. Siren shrugged and gulped more water listening to the music. She closed her eyes thinking about what the words were saying.

Okay and Kevin had actually gone home but that's okay. I'll have him head back to the bar...

Kevin

I picked the phone up to hear my mother's voice down the line.
"The school rang sweetie and said you weren't there. Do you know how this affects my reputation with the council honey?" She chirped in one of her worried tones.
"Sorry mum. I wasn't feeling well," I replied.
"Okay dear but you should let the school know okay? And also..." I didn't wait to hear anymore. I really wasn't in the mood for one of my mothers lectures so I hung up on her. A few minutes later the phone began to ring again so I decided to leave the house.

With nowhere else to go, I headed back to the pub and had another drink. It must have been around four at this point so everyone had finished school. I was about to head off again when my mobile range.
"Yes?"
"Your mother says you wasn't at school this afternoon," My father sounded annoyed. I was probably interrupting his work schedule.
"Yeah. I wasn't feeling well. I explained it to her."
"She says you hung up on her."
"Sorry. I was sort of busy."
"Too busy to talk for a few minutes?" I could just see him stood in his office, tapping his foot impatiently and counting the second he was wasting.
"And like you're not too busy for me?" I demanded, "How about this. I'll talk to you the next time you're home for longer than a few hours," I yelled, hanging up once more and stuffing the phone into my pocket.

I turned to see the Bar tender and Siren watching me.
"Sorry about that," I sighed.

Riley

I got to the nightclub 15 minutes before I was due to start work. I quickly changed into a short black skirt and a tight black t-shirt and sat on the bar, waiting for the nightclub to open and people to start coming in. There were three other girls and a guy.

"You new?" one of the girls asked me. She looked about 27 and tired.

I nodded. "Yeah. What do I have to do?"

"Just serve the drinks. Pete here makes them all, and Mandy helps a bit. I'm Jane, you are?"

"Riley. How long have you been working here?"

Jane shrugged. "A few years. I got the job after David was born and his bastard of a father ran off. Needed some way to support myself."

I bit my lip. "You have a son?"

Jane nodded. "Yeah, he's five. Hopefully I can get a better paying job, and some more time to myself, after he starts school next year."

I wanted to talk more, but people started pouring in. I recgonised a lot of people, but nobody talked to me unless they were ordering. One perverted guy slipped a $20 note into my clevage as I leaned over to hand him his fifth vodka. He was obviously drunk. I was having an okay time until my friends, minus Ninen, walked in. They spotted me and Roxy, Olivia and Kasey walked over.

"Hey Riley," they said. "How are ya girl?"

"How 'bout you Siren?" I asked.
"Just a little trouble with my brother," She murmured.
"Ah. Him." I tried not to sound hateful but at least a little of my feelings must have filtered through.
"Is this about him and what he did to Riley?"
"Not really. It's a long story."
"Okay," She replied, sounding disapointed.
"And one you should know if you're going to be a part of our group," I sighed. "Riley and Ninen have moved away from home and are getting a place together. I was too overprotective, words were exchanged, bad history got dragged up and the girls are out there trying to fix my huge mess."
