Kevin
I watched the Doctor exit the room and then peered around. No other people in white coats were in sight.
"Kevin..." Olivia warned, catching my hand, her eyes reproachful.
"Just five minutes," I promised, prying her fingers away and slipping into the room. I found Riley sat on Ninen's bed crying while Ninen watched her with a pained expression. I went to Riley first and put a hand on her shoulder. She looked up at me with teary eyes before she stood and allowed me to hug her briefly.
"She'll be fine," I promised softly. "Just fine. The doctors will make sure of that."
"But what if she isn't? They can't save everyone," Riley murmured in a hushed, fearful tone.
"I know," I sighed and she bit her lip regretfully before I moved across to Ninen.
"I'll make this brief. I don't want to tire you and I shouldn't be in here. I'm sorry Ninen. I shouldn't have shouted at you and Riley. If you want to get your own place when you're better, that's fine by me but if you need somewhere to stay, my house is open and that goes for both of you." Ninen didn't reply but I brushed a stray hair from her face and the turned away. I don't like hospitals and the scene was all too familiar for me.
