Nutty watched Matt kick one of the smaller smilies, sending it rollong off down a nearby hill.
"What did you do that for?" Nutty demanded.
Matt looked up, in with an innocent smile, replied, "do what?"
"Kick that smilie!"
"It smiled at me funny!"
"They're SMILIES, Matt!"
Matt looked confused. ".....so?"
Nutty shook her head. "I hope adam finds out how to rescue us soon."
"Do you think he will?"
"We are part of the CRA, are we not?"
"Mmm, but, there is all the others...."
"The length of time we've been stuck on here, they've probably got the others."
Matt nodded and glared at another smilie. "Now that one IS smiling funny."
Nutty sighed and looked up. A huge smilie was moving towards them, with the most evil grin she had ever seen. It was the kind of smilie you expected to have a chainsaw. And it was getting closer. "Matt....RUN!"
Nutty turned on her heels and fled, Matt running beside her. "I told you smilies were evil!"
"....I hate it when you're right."
It's not easy having a good time. Even smiling makes my face ache.

Scipio got the feeling that Alice didn't want to go on a picnic with Lionel but he could think of no logical reason that they shouldn't go so he shrugged and headed off after the knight.

"Are you not coming?" Lionel asked, turning to see that Alice was still stood in the doorway.

"Uh..." she hesitated. Scipio offered her a sympathetic smile and held out his arm which she gratefully took.

"Sir Lionel, please allow me to carry the basket. Dear Allyson does not feel comfortable with a man of your stature holding it," Scipio declared, already taking the article in question from a rather surprised Lionel.

"Oh. Well... if that's how she feels," he replied lamely.

"It is," Alice responded, leaning heavily on Scipio's arm. The weight of her body against his was enough to bring a touch of crimson to his cheeks.

"My brother," Adam confessed, "He's the one doing all this. I-I don think this s real, Bella."

"Brother!?" Bella exclaimed.

"Keep your voice down, I dont want everyone to know. He's looking for something in the Ancient Database. Do you remember what happened when we got to the Outpost?"

"Of course, The Spammians took us to see Elisandro and then he stole the database and left."

"I was afraid of that."

"What? Adam, you're not making any sense."

"I have a different memory. After we got to the outpost. He took us captive and hooked us to these machines. I think..." Adam trailed off, thinking it sounded even more far fetched than it did in his head."

"This is making me head hurt."

"Well, we still have time before we get to Planet Smiley, why not go have a rest."

"Maybe. I think Heather needs help looking for Rick though."

"Rick?" Heather called. "Rick, where are you?" she entered yet another room of the ship and found that it too was vacant. In fact, the only place left to check was the hangar and the fighters. She headed down still calling his name. Still no response. That was when she saw them. Standing beside one of the fighters were three indistinct figures, two upright and the other a limp form between them.

"Rick," Heather whispered. Both heads jerked around and they dropped Rick before advancing towards her.

"Oh, uh, hello there. Are you friends with the hologram guy?" Heather stepped back remembering how real and sharp that blade had felt against her neck.

"We want you to take a message back to Adam. Tell him we have his friend and we'll be in touch." They turned to go.

"Wait!" Heather protested. "Can't we talk about this?"

Nutty threw herself into a cave, set inside one of the hills. She reached out and dragged Matt inside as he ran past. She beckoned him to be quiet.
"These smilies are pretty stupid. Just keep it down." She whispered.
"Are you sure?"
"Shhh!"
Matt fell silent as the huge smilie moved past.
"That was kinda predictable." He stated after they were sure the danger had passed.
"Hey, stick with what works."

Bella turned down the hallway just as Heather disappeared with Elisandro.**right?** Rick was standing there, watching.

"Whta just happened?" Bella asked, running to Rick's side.

"That thing took Heather and left...on the upside, I have cards!" he held up his deck of cards happily.

No Bella, that's not Elisandro. It is his minions

A funny feeling welled up in Adam's stomach. Something was seriously wrong. Something was on his ship. Without a second thought Adam appeared in the hanger. The minions holding an unconcious Rick between them.

"Entering orbit around planet Smiley," chimed the cold dead computer. It distracted the kidnappers enough for Adam to strike. With a single fluidic motion he leapt into the air, twirling his wooden pole between his hands. The harsh whistle of breaking wind wailing against the baddies.

The pole sliced right through both people. The sizzled a bit before turning to static and vanishing. Rick left limp on the floor.

"Get him to sickbay," Adam said, "Locate Matt and Nutty, transport them on board at once."

Nutty and Matt suddenly appeared on deck, Bella standing watching them.
"You guys took your time!" Nutty muttered, brushing dirt off her robes.
"Yeah there were smilies! it was terrible!"
Bella shook her head. "There's no time! Follow me!"
Bella raced down the passage, and after a moment's hesitation, Nutty and Matt followed.
"Where are we going?" Nutty called.
"Sickbay!"
Nutty cursed under her breath. No rest for the wicked, she supposed.
"Who is it?"
"Rick!"
Again? Oh no... I hope it's not serious...
Nutty slid into the sickbay, where Rick was unconscious on the table.
Nutty drew her spork, and standing over rick, she closed her eyes, trying to figure out was wrong.
"Is he okay?" Matt asked from the doorway.
"It's not serious." Nutty chanted a few times, and cast her well-rehersed spell of healing on him.
Rick woke, and groaned. "My head...it hurts."
"You'll be fine." Nutty turned to Bella. "Is that all?"
Bella shook her head. "Heather...she's gone!"
Nutty was stunned. "How?" Nutty shook her head without waiting for the answer. "I better report to Adam."
Nutty instructed rick to drink plenty of water and went in search of Adam.

Heather

"Okay, when I asked if we could talk about this, I didn't mean in your dungeon," Heather grumbled as she huddled in a corner of the cell. After all, the cell was too small for her to stand, not wide enough for her to sit and therefore she had to huddle, her knees pressed right against her chest.

"That other one will take my message to your captain?" One of the minions asked.

"Rick?" Heather scoffed. "Oh yeah, he might remember to say something in an hour or two." She smiled fondly and shook her head but that resulted in hitting it against the wall. Stupid idea.

"They will come to find you. Then we will talk with your captain." With that the creature turned around and left, switching off the hallway light as it went.

"Great. I wonder what sort of creatures they're used to keeping in these cells," Heather grumbled, wishing that she could reach her sword and teleport out but they had placed it in a neighbouring cell as if it had a mind of its own. Maybe they'll try talking to it next.

Alice liked leaning against Scipio, especially in comparison to Lionel. Who was still watching her creepily. She wanted to find a way to subtaly switch sides with Scipio, so that he was in the middle instead of her.

They reached a beautiful spot just out of view of the castle, and sat down to eat.

"So how did you two get here?" Lionel asked.

"We got lost," Alice said harshly, "we're trying to find our way back, so we won't be staying here very much longer."

"Where were you headed?" he continued.

"We were headed to France," Scipio said, "To Paris to be persice, my family lives there."

Alice repressed a sigh as he slid his arm around her waist, her plan to keep him away wasn't working out as well, but her plan for keeping Lionel away was working only slightly better. The only reason she wasn't running away from them both and locking herself in Scipio's room was the fact that she knew Scipio would never hurt her.
I just lost the game.

Scipio sensed that Alice had developed a dislike for Lionel and decided that his best way of protecting her was by acting as though he were in love. Well, that was what he told himself but he was beginning to wonder if that wasn't closer to the truth than he liked. Love. Love was something Scipio wasn't quite ready for and he was beginning to realise it was something he couldn't protect himself from. As he threaded an arm around Alice's waist, he felt her stiffen a touch. Ah. So she didn't like him. That solved the problem. Feeling a touch disappointed but generally more comfortable, Scipio began to chatter cheerfully to Alice.

"You should try some of the cake, it's wonderful," Scipio noted, already taking a piece for Alice and passing it to her.

"Thanks," she replied.

"You will need supplies for your journey to France? Transportation?" Lionel prompted.

"No, not at all. We can perform for money and money can buy us all we need," Scipio said.

"Perform?" Lionel asked.

"Oh yes. We sing and dance. We perform."

Alice relized just a second too late that she had stiffened when Scipio had touched her. She hated that she liked him and couldn't tell him. If she knew what was good for her, she wouldn't fall for him, she did know not to, but her heart was always in a constant battle with her head over who was right.

"Are you sure you could not use any transportation?" Lionel asked hopefully.

"No, we much enjoy walking," she leaned against Scipio, enjoying it far too much.

"When are you leaving?"

"First thing tomorrow morning."

"Of course," Lionel said mournfully.

Alice smiled and unconciously twined her fingers around Scipios.

Scipio was momentarily distracted as Alice linked her fingers with his. He could feel every bump and every dip in the smooth, warm texture of her flesh.

"Do you not want a go at jousting first?" Lionel asked and though he desperately did, Scipio shook his head.

"I believe I have changed my mind. It looks a dangerous sport and we do not have the days to wait for your next match."

"Oh?" Lionel's eyes flashed mischievously. "Could you wait until tonight if the match were then?" Scipio hesitated but had not Alice said they would stay until the next morning?

"We could..." Scipio nodded.

"Then tonight it shall be. A match between you and I, victor takes all," Lionel declared.

"And what exactly are we jousting over?" Scipio asked.

The bigger the issue, the smaller you write. Remember that. You don’t write about the horrors of war. No. You write about a kid’s burnt socks lying on the road. You pick the smallest manageable part of the big thing, and you work off the resonance.
