The wards weren't particularly strong, they're meant to alert you to intruders, not act as walls. Sending 50 is half the force, any more would have to be justified by a goal. If they can't kill everyone easily, then it better be worth their while to kill them.

Great!

Now, back to the storybook.

There's a lot of confusion over the battle at the mountain. I think we need to figure out what's going to happen from there.

Any ideas?

Valin and his crew should not be able to take on a group of 50 goblins toe to toe under these circumstances. They shouls probably due a hit and run sort of technique...one that lasts a few days, not a few minutes.

I like the idea of Cyrus challenging the leader of the goblin tribe. It would certainly draw the attention of most of the goblins around, which would definitely give Seraph a fighting chance of getting Finn and Henry(which was already established). Since we have that going, if Cyrus loses, then Seraph and the others tear through the goblins from behind. If he wins...well, lets just say that Seraph wouldn't let a tribe of goblins run free.

If Cyrus loses, then that means he dies. It's a trial by combat.

However, if someone kills the priest, in violation of a trial by combat, then the chain of command is broken.

So, if Cyrus wins, he's their Commander.

If he doesn't, then the priest retains command.

If Seraph or someone else kills the priest, then utter confusion will reign.

Our heroes could escape in the confusion.

I don't see how Valin's group can't go toe to toe with 50 goblins--theyer are 4 experienced warriors going up against an (Albeit rather large) mob of unskilled, brutish, barbarians. It might take longer than a few minutes, which I'd be wiilling to change, but I think they could take em out.

Actually...

Valin and Alden are both experienced fighters. They've fought in a variety of situations, many of these requiring them to fight against a superior force.

Valin has a variety of weaponry, for long, medium, and short range engagements.

Alden is less versatile, he is fit for short range engagements, or for bombing strategic targets (with rocks and the like.)

Sirloaz is a tracker, who's only experience in fighting would be against a fairly small enemy force. He likes to stalk his prey, not engage it head on. He has a bow and daggers, which is suitable for a long range engagement.

Tan'quin on the other hand is a druid, with weaponry on the defensive side. He has a dagger and a bow, which suits a long range engagement.

Let us not forget that a forest is a close quarter environment. It rewards stealth, agility, and speed. Why not have our characters make use of it?

Three characters with bows: they can launch two or three volleys, kill 6-9 bad guys (assuming that they don't miss and the first shot kills instantly) before they have to turn tail and run to a spot one hundred yards away, where they can restart the whole process.

Alden flies above, in order to check on the enemy.

We might have enough arrows for 50 goblins (say, 20 arrows to a quiver) but not 61 goblins.

We have to remember that the main idea of Valin's group is to distract and draw away the goblins, not to wipe them out. Killing them all is a secondary objective.

Having said all that, I think what Hunter means is that we shouldn't be able to kill them all in a gigantic and massive head on battle.

The reason Valin is leading is because he is fast, stealthy, and smart. Let Seraph do the head on battles, Valin will take them out one at a time if it is quieter.

So, I guess we have a couple of post revisions.

I'll submit a post, having Valin lay out a stealth oriented plan.

Godmoding Dan's character without permission isn't cool, Grif.

Rewinding to ignore his post is even more uncool of you.

What I propose: Dan be able to write his post to go along with the group's general consensus, rather than being dominated by Grif.

If Cyrus loses, then that means he dies. It's a trial by combat.

However, if someone kills the priest, in violation of a trial by combat, then the chain of command is broken.

So, if Cyrus wins, he's their Commander.

Don't make me cut off your typing fingers, Grif.

This is what Seraph would intend, trial by combat or no: What he knows is that Cyrus, win or lose, will be surrounded by goblins. He would take what force he has, namely Henry and Finn, and strike from behind. If Ursa and the Paladin happen to show up at an opportune time, then so be it. Imps and Goblins are the epitome of chaos. Seraph cannot allow them to live, no matter under whose leadership.

My next post will likely reflect that intention.

I've deleted the post in order to allow Sabradan to modify his post.

I've been thinking about that brave head on attack that he posted.

Valin and Company charges a force that is superior to it by 12.5 to 1?

There is no way that any member of that group would survive it and then go on to run back to the mountain to engage another force of 50.

The Goblins would flank around both sides of Valin's group, and annihlate the heroes.

The weaponry in Valin's group is fit for long range encounters, or point defense. Only Valin has a sword, the other two have daggers and bows. There is no way they could hack and slash through the goblins, who would have swords, if they didn't have arrows.

Having characters that survive battles fought in this manner would make these characters god characters.

Editing this post so that the group performed a fighting withdrawl would be realistic enough that Valin would follow this course of action. It is the action that Seraph suggested, that Tan'quin suggested, and Sirloaz as well.

misspriss wrote:I'm confused! And I feel like an idiot for still being confused but that doesn't help matters, I'm sorry that I keep posting asking questions, but I don't understand.

Let me see if I get this straight.

We are going back to the part where no one is cut loose?

And if that's true, than can someone delete my old posts and let me repost them where they should be?

By the way, you can delete my posts about Carmenia as soon as you read this message because I have the posts saved in a document.

It really depends. If the Valin group plot line is altered, then Carmenia will still be tied up. The only change would be that Seraph does the rescue.

We're still debating that plot change though, so for the moment, your post is fine.

Okay, so the dragon idea was STUPID!! What the hell people! I mean seriously, our characters have little to no rest, whether its constant running or battling or whatever; its got to take its toll, stress, adrenaline all of tha jazz. We should be resting! How in the name of all the blazing hells did you think we could overcome a dragon?! A DRAGON!

At out strongest we'd be ripeed to pieces or incinerated (if we were lucky). NO magic or muscle we had at our disposal would have helped -- in any case I dealt with that little problem, just make sure to keep an element of realism and weakness in the story please.

As to the backstory of dragons and dwarves: There has long been a connection between these two ancient races, both being born of and living in, the mountains. Dwarves, being master craftsmen, are often commissioned to make the shiny stuff dragons love to hoard. Dragons are by nature honourable creatures and so no they wouldnt be rampaging randomly through the countryside -- nor would they attempt to coerce treasure from dwarves, which would work anyways -- and being about a billion times stronger then us: lets not have them in the story any more, ok?

EDIT: Jig and I met halfway on our plots and I will be posting shortly to clarify.

...What exactly was this that attacked the dragon, then? And does this put our newest plans for Sedgeley out of the picture?
