Request: A filter function for literary works that can filter out works you've already read.

Request: Pls fix Green Room :( When you sort by oldest, it doesn't show the actual oldest work f.e.) (it also doesn't calculate the works in the Green Room correctly)
(why do I know this?)
(bc I went through them by hand.)

It would be nice to have a way to save certain works you'd like to review or read later. like a "saved" tab or something in the profile.
I know my worth, anyone else opinion doesn't really matter

The Labyrinth game is, at times, wrong? Unless I'm wrong?

Which sentence avoids a misplaced modifier?
A. She found a manuscript in the cabinet with torn pages
  • "with torn pages" seems to ambigously describe the cabinet, not the manuscript.
B. With torn pages, she found a manuscript in the cabinet.
  • "with torn pages" seems to modify she, suggesting she has torn pages.
C. She found in the cabinet a manuscript with torn pages.
  • This is correct? "with torn pages" directly next to manuscript clearly modifies manuscript, not anything else.
D. She with torn pages found a manuscript in the cabinet.
  • This is just ungrammatical and suggests she has torn pages.

I clicked C, since C seems to be the most correct, and lost my streak! Apparently the answer is A, though I think A is quite ambiguous. This is very minuscule in the scheme of things, but I'm speedrunning this game!

Oh also
Request: Can we get a bbcode box for reviews too? Like a full reply?
And can you fix the review replies so that it properly displays unusual quotation marks?
Also is there any way to allow us to edit review replies?

All of the above is a main reason why I stopped using the reply box and started replying via pm .

Hi Nate - I love everything you've implemented so far - I know you are very busy! Here are a few of my suggestions for YWS - I have no clue how feasible some of these things are but have given it some thought in case any of these ideas might be useful to you / YWS.

Literary Center Reading Experience
When I compare YWS to some other writing sites out there, one area I do wonder if we could have some improvement in is our literary center reading experience?

For instance...

Ease of Finding Next Chapter - on other sites that you read chapters, a lot of time a "next chapter" button is integrated into the bottom of the page for ease of reading.

Bookmark + Favoriting System
I know you said you were working on a bookmarking system, I think that would be a huge help! Additionally, I think it would be a lot of fun if we could "Favorite" works ... like have a bookshelf featuring our "Top Five" lit works we've written and "Top Five" lit works we've read on YWS (maybe this is more of a forum activity?) but it would give another area of the site to recognize exceptional works beyond just the "Most likes of all times works" It would be cool if a user could subscribe to a folder (like a story folder) so that they get notifications when a new chapter / poem is posted in that folder.

Additional Author Tags for Chapters / Lit Works? - It would be nice if novels could have a "completed" tag somehow when they are complete? I also think it'd be kind of fun if authors could choose additional things to tag their works with beyond genres ... like NaPo, NaNo, LMS, In-Progress, Completed, 2nd Draft..

page view - is it possible for YWS to have the page with the literary work look like a book page? where users "turn the page" to read the next chapter, or read the next poem in a folder? Just seeing if that's possible! as it would be cool if it was!

Filter in Green Room - Tikaya is the one who brought my attention to this, but I don't think the GR currently has a way to filter out works that you've already read and could use more filters in general if it is possible to implement? For instance I'd love to filter "Poetry GR Works that I haven't reviewed" during Review Days to make it easier to comb through things and review them.

Protect Literary Center from AI Combing & Publication Issues
A huge, major factor for writers right now on YWS and everywhere online is the question of is my work protected from AI usage? On YWS I am fairly sure everything in the literary center is free-game for AI bots to use. If I ask Gemini to describe "alliyah's poetry style from YWS" for instance it can tell me specifics about my poetry and I think that is kind of creepy. Is there any way you can stop this with the site coding / restrictions?

Would you ever consider restricting the Literary Center to just logged in users?

Another reason I bring this up is lot of publishing groups (at least for poetry!) make a distinction between works that have been posted "publicly accessible" (like in a public blog or public Facebook post) versus works that have been posted "privately" (like shared in a private literary group) - right now if I tried to publish any poems currently on YWS, the publisher could google my work and see it is already "publicly" published and would likely reject it for being so. If the work was restricted to only be viewed by registered users it would give a little more wiggle room for submissions as it hasn't technically been prior public-published... and also might restrict some of the AI bots stealing our works. I would personally feel a lot more comfortable if only registered users could see my literary works. We have occasionally had kids / younger users get in trouble from their teachers who have googled their works/essays to find them published on YWS and this might help prevent that too (though I think usually a quick explanation on what YWS is would be sufficient in that case too!)

System for Blocking Members
Our old system for blocking members was kind of quirky / didn't really work how I would expect it to on a social media platform. I don't see how to block members in the new UCP but I do think it is an important resource for users to have when there are member-member disputes to give a concrete option for folks to choose not to interact with each other anymore.

Additionally, I do feel like it would be nice if there was an option like "hide all people tab posts from [this user]" - while I don't think that would be an option appropriate for moderators to use and I wouldn't personally use that feature, I do know there have been complaints in the past about users who want to keep their feed free of certain sensitive topics like politics, religion, or other subjects and that would be a nice option to offer users? (Not sure how complicated that all is in practice though!

WriterFeedPad
Is there any reason users can be anonymous on WFP? It would be nice if at least moderators could see who was who in a WFP for moderating purposes - like when someone hops in and doesn't put a name and starts harassing folks or doing something that we need to get in contact with them about. A lot of community activity happens in WFP these days - it's like the new "chat" - I think it might even be worth putting "WFP" into the top bar for easy access (like where it says "People / Messages / Notifications / publishing center" - would also be nice if there was a way to see which public WFPs currently have someone active / online in them (similar to the chat room signaling 1 person is in them) - not sure how feasible that is though!

Resources for Managing Portfolio in a Single Sweep
We sometimes have old users reaching out years after leaving their account to ask for their account to be deleted... usually what they're looking for isn't necessarily for their posts to be deleted but more-so their literary works to be hidden (for publishing or for privacy) - it would be nice if you could do this all at once like in a single button choose "hide/unpublish all literary works". Also right now I think the option for "publish / unpublish" in the Portfolio Edit Center look like they should be switched... in that you check mark "publish" to unpublish and vice-versa? It's a weird quirk that people seem to confuse a lot.

Continuing to Gamify YWS
I think something that helps YWS thrive and continue is the aspect of progress / competition within the site that keeps people striving for the next level - more points, more stars, more reviews, winning review days, jumping the leaderboard etc. I think one area we could improve in this is with Team Tortoise - I used to manually keep track of who won Team Tortoise each month so I could recognize those users with ReviewBuddy (ie. recognize users who made it to 3 months of TT, or 6 months, or 1 year) eventually that became too tedious to keep track of so I stopped doing it and stopped recognizing TT streaks - I would love if there was a way mods or users could keep track of those ongoing tracks themselves? or even a leaderboard for Team Tortoise streaks? It'd be neat if people who are currently in TT have a little turtle icon next to their stars. Again not sure that is feasible at all! But I think promoting Team Tortoise is really great!

It would be fun also if there was somewhere that I could see who has the most points currently, or like the list of which are the top 5 users for points?

Thanks for all you do Nate!
you should know i am a time traveler &
there is no season as achingly temporary as now
but i have promised to return

Reduce some of the rounded corners kerning - they clash a little with the mostly otherwise squarish aesthetic of yewis, or at least make the rounding consistent with the top bar of tabs. Also, I’d like to see the favorite work star back on the publishing center because I was confused what that element was for at first

Another very small one: on people’s wall pages, you can press to load more comments at the bottom or go through it like the old page system above the bar to select posts or status updates. Would be nice if a similar system existed on people tab. Thank you!

Oh, also - the green room is still the old UI, but I assume that will shortly be rectified.

The update to the Green Room threw out all stories posted in 2025 even if they haven't been a year in the GR yet. Is that okay?

But at least they are now in order =D

would it be possible to have a toggle for smilies across the entire site? right now i can disable them for forum posts and pm's but not wallposts
like the stars chase the sun

It would be nice to balance the spacing between the pfps, usernames, and the text of wall posts more like the old version, as i feel like they are disproportionate.

i have no clue how feasible this would be, but being able to pin certain trophies you want to show off to the top of the trophies page would be super cool!!

I think the age rules for literary works need better clarification. Too many new yswrs are being corrected on proper age placement on works.

And I think hearts instead of stars to like a post would make more sense.

Same issue with spacing on the new literary works page. Also having an option to change the font from serif to sans serif would be nice, since for some reason when reading a computer in my brain can't handle serif.
