It opened. Narfi turned away and headed down the hall. A tall, thin older man in his late seventies was seated on the couch with a pair of rectangular spectacles sitting on the end of a long, crooked nose. His hair was silver and cut short, and he had a narrow, craggy face. He was dressed in a nightgown and had a book in hand. He peered at Ky as the door opened, frowning.

“Oh, um, hello.” She flashed an anxious smile and walked inside, closing the door most of the way behind her. “I’m sorry, I don’t think we’ve met? I’m Ky.” She hesitantly offered a hand.

The old man looked at her hand, then back at her. "You're the girl Septimus has been talking about," he said. "Tomhas's girl."

Ky felt super awkward and wanted to pull her hand away but forced herself to keep it out.

He reached out a spindly hand and tried to shake it, but it passed through her. He seemed unsurprised, lowering it. "Not very much. My name is Severus."

That was a relief. She let out a small involuntarily sigh of relief and lowered her hand, but tensed again when she heard his name. “You’re… his brother?”

“You as well.” She dipped her head, forcing herself not to fidget. He’d just proven he couldn’t hurt her. No need to be anxious… no need.

He closed his book. "Was there something you hoped to accomplish in here? I can move to another room if you require privacy."

“No!” She shook her head quickly. “Um… I mean… no, that’s okay. Thank you. I was just… um… long story — doesn’t matter — but, um… no I didn’t mean to disturb you, sorry. I’ll go.” She took a step backwards.

“Thank you.” She nodded to him, hesitating by the door. Should she ask him about Narfi? Was he still in the hall, listening? Would Severus tell her the truth about him? She poked her head out to check.
(That last question is not rhetorical lol I lowkey wanna have her ask but am not sure I want her knowing the truth yet? Undecided)
