2022 NAPO BADGES

Image

Check out the information below to learn how you can earn different badges this April during NaPo for participating in National Poetry Writing Month! If you complete one of the challenges please make a post below with the link to your thread (&/or poems & comments) and the name of the badge you're claiming by May 6.

Writing Poems

Note: Outside of the "Poem A Day" with the Completion badge these are not stackable - if you write 30 poems you don't also get the high five & the hearty halfway. :)

High Five You did it! Complete and log 5 poems during the month of April and you'll get a high-five as well as a nifty NaPo badge for your hard work! All you have to do to claim your badge is leave a link to your thread below and make sure you poems are numbered within your thread.

Hearty Halfway A poem every-other-day or half the days in April is really commendable! If you complete at least 15 poems over April and post them in your NaPo thread, you've won the "Hearty Half-Way" badge for your dedication! Leave a link to your thread below if you've earned this badge.

NaPo Completion Write 30 poems in April and post in your NaPo thread. You don't need to post all the links to the poems here, the only stipulation is there must be at least 30 in your thread by the end of the month. Poems can be posted anytime during April as long as they are numbered and can be any length or form to complete this challenge.

Poem-A-Day Champion This is the traditional NaPo challenge! To win this you must write at least 1 poem every day of April with the correct time-stamps in your NaPo thread. (There is some leniency if you get a day or two off, but the majority should be done on the day in question and there should be at least 30 total at the end - feel free to message one of the Poetry Mods if you are unsure.)

Community

Garden Challenge NaPo is mostly an individual effort, but the great thing about YWS is that we get to pursue these efforts as a community! This challenge is about encouraging your fellow writers! So spread bright encouragement by completing this challenge. To claim the Garden Challenge Badge comment 20 times in the NaPo threads (other than your own), you must comment in at least 5 different threads and collect the links below. Each comment should be unique and be written in the month of April.

Starter Seeds Sometimes all the motivation that people need to keep going is just a little kind word. If you plant 10 unique comments in NaPo threads during NaPo this year you can earn the "Starter Seeds" badge! Make sure that your comments aren't all in the same person's thread, and collect the comment links to claim the badge.

Jam Collector You've stored all that sweet poetry in a jar! For this challenge, collect the jam jars (ie. Poetry Jam Links) from at least 5 different Poetry Jams or Write-ins / Poetry Discussions during the month of April! To count for "attendance" you need to be in the jam for at least 20 minutes and contribute to the jam discussion. Provide the links or the date you attended below to make sure you can claim your badge! Also if the times of the jams that the moderators run don't work for your schedule, feel free to run your own and get others on the site to attend! If you count a jam that you're running for this contest, it should be a write-in link posted in the Jam Club for at least 20 minutes. And consider subscribing to the Poetry Jam Club so that you don't miss any of the jams available!

Contests

April Madness Finalist If you make it to the last round of April Madness you will receive your own, highly-sought-after, limited edition April Madness badge!

~~~
Note: If you don't post below, you may not be awarded your badge. Poetry for badges must be written in April.
Frequently Asked Questions
Do collaborative poems count towards the Poem Count? Unfortunately, no! But if you are in a pad to collaborate be sure to save that link for the Poetry Jams badge!
What is meant by "unique comments" for the Garden Challenge? You can not just copy and paste "good job, good luck" a dozen times and then collect your badge. Comments ought to have been written uniquely for that thread but can be any length. Remember that the purpose is to share support and encouragement, this probably isn't the time to leave a novel-length critique of punctuation and capitalization methods.
What is a Poetry Jam? A poetry jam is a write-in where anyone who wants to jumps into a Writers Feed Pad, Rise-up pad, or other shared writing pad link and instead of writing just anything, you're encouraged to write poems - often guided by a poetry prompt or two. Sometimes they're planned in advance and advertised around the site, sometimes they're spontaneous. Anyone can host one by sharing a WFP link over in the Poetry Jam Club. More information about hosting and participating here.
How do I claim my badges? Start a log below where you collect the links to your NaPo comments or leave a link to your NaPo thread for the Poem-Count. Be sure to clarify in your post which badge you are claiming / have completed the requirements for.
What if I am going for the "Poem Completion" badge but I have an emergency and miss posting one day? Things happen and time zones are weird! The majority of the poems need to be posted with close to the same time stamp (if you post at 1 am every day, I'm just going to assume you're not in my time zone, that's okay!). You can accidentally miss up to two days, but the end total needs to be 30.
How long do my poems need to be to count? I wrote a two word poem a few years back! ;) Poems can be any length, they just need to be properly numbered.
Any other questions? Feel free to ask!
