"I take personal offense to the idea that they would put me in a cell by you two just so that Kratzer could feed off of us," Carter spat back. "We are not cattle."

"If they were going to feed me they wouldn't have bothered with live humans," he replied dryly.
"All that is gold does not glitter,
Not all those who wander are lost;
The old that is strong does not wither,
Deep roots are not reached by the frost."

"So what, then, they just want to see us socialize, is that it?" Carter asked in annoyance.

"If I knew, I'd tell you," he replied, agitated.

"Oh, well forgive me for asking a rhetorical question," Carter muttered.

"Maybe this is the torture," Skull muttered, trying to tune out the conversation going on. He was still trying to think of a way to escape from this place. He needed to find Bickerstaff, and preferably soon - he had no idea when he'd be opening up another rift.

Kratzer just snorted in response before turning his attention sharply towards the door. His posture went from nonchalant and calm, if wary, to guarded and defensive instantly and his focus shifted from the others in captivity to whatever he was seeing or hearing that he found so worth his full attention.

Carter followed Kratzer's attentions and looked at the door, though notably more nonchalant.

Kratzer was looking away and towards the door. That could only just that something was there - something that he hadn't heard, but something that Kratzer had probably heard due to him being a vampire. He admittedly had no idea how that would impact someone's senses, but he wasn't an expert on vampires. Hell, he hadn't even known they existed until Kratzer tried to sink his teeth into his neck!

Well, seeing that everyone else was doing it, he turned and watched the door. Hopefully it would be someone who would be bringing them to another place; then he could get an opportunity to escape.

The door creaked as it was pushed open and a young man stepped inside. He appeared to be around 18 or 19 years old, and had dark blonde hair and pale blue eyes. A scar ran across his face that was perfectly mirrored Kratzer's - diagonal, running from his right temple to the left side of his jawbone, where the vampire's ran from left to right.

Carter looked from Kratzer to the boy, noting the mirrored scars. But he sat silently and observed, waiting for the young man to speak - if he was going to.

Skull perked up ever so slightly, noting that the newcomer had no sort of guards. It appeared, for whatever reason, that this boy was unaccompanied. He didn't miss noticing the mirrored scar. He wouldn't have gotten as far as he was in life if he hadn't picked up on minor details like that. But that didn't matter as much as the boy's presence. He was either dealing with a rescuer or someone who was a higher up in this place. He could work with either situation.

Spoiler
Anything bold will be in German, folks!

Kratzer moved forward with sudden speed, slamming against the bars. His eyes flashed with that metallic hue as he lunged towards the newcomer. "Gunther."

The newcomer gazed at the vampire with a cold indifference. "I told you that you couldn't run forever."

"You have no idea what you're doing, boy, sh-" Kratzer started, the emotions betrayed by his countenance some indecipherable mix of anger, fear, and pain.

"Silence, Thirteen!" he snapped. "I'm not here to argue with some pathetic, starving scumbag who calls himself an assassin!"

"You can't trust her, she'll j-"

"Enough!" he retorted in English, though his voice still had a thick accent, even more than Kratzer's.

Skull groaned and rested his head back against the bars of his cell.

"Great," he groaned, "so you're not here to rescue any of us. I'd bet that you're the one who rigged this whole setup up, just so you could see your pal Kratzer suffer with the rest of us just here for the ride."

"I'm here because you are all very important to Herrin Boomslang and she wants to make sure you all stay where you're supposed to," he replied coolly.
