He shrugged. "I wouldn't know. I haven't been Earth for all that long, so maybe Twilight is older than Dracula and you're just too out of the swing of things to realize it."
"All that is gold does not glitter, Not all those who wander are lost; The old that is strong does not wither, Deep roots are not reached by the frost."
He shrugged. "Not a clue. I came through a rift following an absolutely lovely man named Bickerstaff, and was arrested a few hours later when someone recognized who I was. I don't even know what part of the world I was in before I was brought here - wherever here actually is."
Kratzer shrugs, knowing nothing more than anyone else.
"All that is gold does not glitter, Not all those who wander are lost; The old that is strong does not wither, Deep roots are not reached by the frost."
“So you think they moved us just to manage our sanity and monitor our mental stability?” Carter hypothesized apathetically. “There’s no real reason to put us in cells next to each other after being isolated but to see how we interact. Unless they plan some... group torture, which would at least be something different.”
Skull shrugged. "Sticks and stone may break my bones, but torture will never hurt me. My life is torture as it is. A little extra torture on top isn't going to bother me."
"Ah. You're not one for dramatics, are you?" Carter replied with a little sarcasm. "'All life is vain and there is nothing to be gained from it,'" he said, as if quoting something from literature. "'It is all pain from beginning to end, and happiness is but a breath in between.'"
He knew that was meant to be an insult, and it struck a cord. He was bristling with annoyance at it. It wasn't his fault that he didn't get it! He had only just returned to Earth, and Jay had only just started teaching him how to read more advanced stuff. He straightened and opened his mouth to give an insult of his own, only to bite his tongue for once and opt to silently glower at the ground instead. Getting worked up here would likely result in him revealing more information about his life than he wanted to - information that could drastically change their view of him.
"Now if you two are done bickering like school girls, why don't we get back to subject? Torture wouldn't make sense unless they want something, and, at least for me, there's not much I can give them aside from my services. So what, then, would they want from you?"
"All that is gold does not glitter, Not all those who wander are lost; The old that is strong does not wither, Deep roots are not reached by the frost."
He shrugged. "I've got nothing. There's my Enhance magic, but it doesn't explain why they put us together." He looked over at Kratzer, narrowing his eyes in suspicion. "Unless they wanted you to feed from me."
